Construction accident a few years back where-in I got to experience what I'm sure is the nigh-unique pleasure of steel rebar inside my body. It was uncomfortable, and now contorting my back in any way is incredibly painful. Which, with my low pain tolerance is a fucking blast. There's also the whole "using a cane at 27" thing, but if all goes well by the time I'm 28 I won't need to.

So in two and a half weeks I'm going to undergo a bit o' surgery. I've been lead to believe that it's not anything major and nothing will go wrong. I trust this doctor, she's been my doctor since the moment I stopped seeing a pediatrician and she has yet to lead me astray. I am still fucking terrified. So I've gone with the policy of "I don't want to know the names of what you're doing to me, I don't really care what the (odds) risks are, just shove a bunch of shit in my back and let me do more than hobble around again." So far everyone I've met, from doctors to the anesthesiologist has been more than kind enough to follow this simple rule. I don't really look forward to my projected in-bed recovery time of nearly a month (they tell me they're high-balling to avoid making mistakes, sure jack uh-huh) but hey, if I can walk and run and generally bend over again, I'm all fucking for it. Fuck hospitals though.

Ah, my bad! Though I too would imagine there are actually people who feel that way. (Hollywood, for instance.)

I feel like we should be worried about that somehow. Like Tim Burton gets a pass for crazy bullshit that no-one else would because he's Tim Burton. His last few things haven't exactly been Nightmare 2.0 or anything.

They're showing Three Days of the Condor on FX right now which is just... what? I love that film, but I never expected to see it on TV. I guess shouldn't be too surprised, Robert Redford is pretty great.

Lonely Island is the only stuff in recent SNL memory that strikes any kind of funny with me. Which is unfortunate.

Uh, so, hey. Thread necro. So the NS2 "Gorilla" update just came out a few days ago, you may have seen coverage of it in various places around the net. Here's the trailer, which is, I must say, quite spiffy. ZjPywj1TODo (I really like the Unknown Worlds logo scene and I'm not entirely sure why.) That said, for the past year and a half or so of Alpha/Beta, NS2 has been more or less unplayable with more than 6 or so people. Fortunately, the Gorilla update has not only brought things like the Onos and jetpacks into play in NS2, but it's cleaned up the optimization like no patch before. What I'm saying is that NS2 is now not only playable, but incredibly fun to boot (feeling a lot like NS1 now) and if you were ever considering it, now's the time.

It's nice to finally see it coming together. What people need to understand is it's a comedy, more than anything else. This, however, is the trailer that actually got me to shoot some money their way. DeAfoiN5SDw I look forward to a well-produced B-movie.

This is basically the reason I've ended up with about twenty close friends over the years. I'm crazy, and don't really bother to reign it in when speaking. Though I am careful about speaking on FPS games in public places, because holy shit the TSA gets touchy about that.

Runes are in no way available for actual money. Anyway, it's an incredibly good business strategy, and it works well, so it's not the "wrong" way, but I get where you're coming from. It just doesn't bother me, I guess.

What I'm saying is, we have no information either way whether it's going to be pay-to-win (urgh) or not. At all. And you went "freemium? oh, guess I don't care then". Everything else is just me being annoyed at people.

I could spiel about how I think people that say "freemium? not playing" are idiots, but I'll say this instead. I think dismissing a game because of a content-purchase model is foolish. The biggest F2P game right now is League of Legends, which has fostered the model for a number of other Dota-like genre games. It's successful as hell, not because it sells power (it doesn't, people who say it does are idiots) but because it's a fun game that you can play for free without ever spending more than time. Do you want to support the developers? Spend some money on their game. (Incidentally, people who say "Why would I ever pay for a F2P game?" are assholes ) But it's foolish to dismiss something simply because of a pricing model.
