  1. Books, books, books...

Not at all. SPOILERS, SOME MINOR, SOME NOT The movie still has the "if you want to stop a man from pushing that button, disable his hand!" cool parts, but it totally skips over things like Dubois, the actual history teacher, giving the class on "the right of the enlisted to vote", and the handling of "juvenile delinquents" which is one of the huge points that people bring against the story for fascism, among other things. Dubois the teacher and Rasczak (Michael Ironsides in the movie and Rico's first LT) are two completely different people. Hell, he even has a second LT who buys it on a drop, before Rico himself becomes the LT of Rico's Roughnecks. His father, staunchly opposed to his joining the Mobile Infantry in the movie and then never seen again, actually joins up in the book and is intensely proud of Rico. Spoilers end I am in no way going to deny that Heinlein was a pretty... interesting guy, when it came to his political views, and he's been accused of just about every unsavory political view possible. But there's a reason it's classic sci-fi. The biggest complaint I have with the movie (face it, it's a good popcorn action and gore fest) is the down-grade, if you will, of the MI from power-armored shock troopers to general human wave grunts. It's not a bad movie (yes it is, but it's still good fun) but it's not the same as the book. Also, Denise Richards.
  2. Grim Dawn

Man, I backed them with the Legendary Edition ages ago and completely forgot about it. Nice to see they haven't died or something.
  3. Done. I am pretty much the worst person with this naming scheme.
  4. It's not very good, sadly. The matchmaking is completely broken, it only has three maps (an odd complaint if it were a traditional DotA-like, but not here), and the balance continues to swing in all directions each time a patch comes out.
  5. Starship Troopers

The thing about Starship Troopers, and frankly Heinlein's fiction in general, is that it seems to be something to everybody. Earlier in my life I would have called Troopers a fascist propaganda piece. Now? I'm not really sure. It has some pieces that are very clearly... questionably motivated, but I think it's a great enough read that if you can save the over-analyzing for after you've finished, you'll enjoy it a lot. It's very much classic military fiction with a great style to it. Think Space Marines but without that silly "no emotions but love for the Emperor" nonsense. Or perhaps more poignantly, Full Metal Jacket but in spaaaaaace.
  6. How do we handle team changes? I'm not aware of any method of deleting teams. E: I am now aware of a method of team and player deletion, but can't because of the league settings.
  7. Sadly not as fun as it sounds. At least in my experience.
  8. Life

Keep it that way. Your life will be better off.
  9. I have not, and if you have an explanation of it I'd love to hear it. As it stands, they're rather terrible discussion topics. Really. I mean really.
  10. Is there uh, a point to this?
  11. Fair enough. Just doesn't bother me I guess.
  12. Does uh, does virtual not-even-human abuse for ones own means bother you? 'Cause you really shouldn't visit Babylon when I'm done. (It's weird that it bothers you, for reference.)
  13. Boobs, boobs, boobs...

Oddly enough the only Charlie Chaplain video involving manhole covers I could find was him coming out of a manhole. ...Mostly. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7358056197750000957
  14. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

    - First-person Assassin's Creed style running. - Decently "chunky" first-person melee combat (rarely done right, Zeno Clash is a good example of it being done right) - More Deus Ex style stuff - Great art style - Interesting potential enemies. (Stilters) - The story about the guy completely breaking their game in a playtest session gives me a lot of hope for mission completion freedom.

IyDvT7XpaBc The sheer amount of promise, the sheer amount of potential in this trailer has my hopes at a high they haven't been for a video game in nigh-on half a decade. Oh please let this be half as good. I'd settle for a third as good with actually decent melee combat. Also apparently somehow not posted here. Zze1wpwVl7c
  16. Jennoa and I for possibly worst people ever. At least this week. Though mostly me.
  17. "Adults Should Read Adult Books" - Joel Stein

The only good thing to come out of this thread is the guy with the Mao ZeDingdong avatar being the one calling out a grammar nazi. Somehow poetic. (The guy with a Third Street Saints Mao ZeDingdong no less.) (I have nothing meaningful to add beyond my already stated belief, I'm so sorry!) E: In fact I know that exact avatar...
  18. The Witcher 2

Aaaahahahaha. I saw that and my face just slowly turned down in every possible way. Whhhhhhhhhhhhyy. Why is that a thing?!
  19. DOTA 2

I don't use it for sadness, mind. That's reserved for say,
  20. Non-video games

I've been looking for a Go app of some sort because I've been wanting to learn Go for years, but I guess on-the-PC play might do just as well.
  21. Oh damn, I just played a few decent Undead and Necro games and quite like them. Oh well! Lizardmen are also quite good. E: Could I get a Steam group invite? https://steamcommunity.com/id/orv
  22. Last nights BB binge made me learn to really hate Norse. My friend's Norse team caused 1 death, 4 casualties (3 with lingering effects) and 3 KO's to my Dark Elf team in Auld World. I deactivated them for the time being. Fuck everyone having block.
  23. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

First, something interesting, not to mention quite good. FHrJreMF1KU Second, a classic that has been stuck in my head for a few days now. Thanks XKCD. B0t66xvMdH0
