  1. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Imagine World In Conflict, but on maps almost 6x the size. Also without the horrible imbalances WiC MP had. It's an utterly fantastic game, the MP is great and challenging.
  2. This is like rooting for a sports team just because it's from your town, which strikes me as stupid.
  3. I've been mulling over a GOMTV season ticket for a while now, since I miss my nightly dose of Tastetosis.
  4. Steam Summer Sale 2012

Definitely not. To expand on MoW; The original had a single-player campaign and various multiplayer modes. Assault Squad is primarily multiplayer skirmish focused. Vietnam and Condemned Heroes are single-player/coop focused campaign games with crushing difficulty.
  5. Steam Summer Sale 2012

For 12 bucks you can't go wrong with the entire thing. That's an enormous value for the series. That said, yeah, the original and Assault Squad are the best places to start. Condemned Heroes and Vietnam are very punishing.
  6. BRINK

Unfortunately every time there's a decent sale on Brink it means that, while the player levels are temporarily bolstered, they're bolstered with people who've never played a Splash Damage game before, which means scads of people ignoring objectives to deathmatch. Which means unfun.
  7. La-Mulana is out!

This is giving me a lot more problems than Demon's Souls, but that's probably because I'm terrible at platforming.
  8. I mean, if I happen to be in a room with a TV and the slalom is on, or curling, or pole vaulting, sure I'll sit down for a few rounds, but there's never been much there for me. The Olympics are kind of the place for all the not-quite-major-sports to go and be fancy.
  9. Well, that's Michael Bay's next movie sorted. (Do people actually care about the Olympics? I can never be sure.)
  10. Odd quotes that stick

I can hear this quote perfectly in my head, even today. I can also hear the same thing with the opening cutscenes of each Age of Empires 2 campaign. So! You have come to hear the tale of Frederick Barbarossa? Better order us another round! Maybe three... for you see it is a great tale! But then, everything about the man was great....
  11. La-Mulana is out!

So this game is basically canned evil.
  12. Homophobic?

I'm not saying it isn't in and of itself, but it frequently leads to "shouting" matches here on the forums.
  13. Homophobic?

Yeah, because what I definitely hate is freedom. I sincerely hope that's hyperbole/sarcasm that I'm misreading. What I actually hate is crusades, and while a certain level of intelligent discussion on these matters is fine, it continues to regularly get out of hand, which isn't fine. Even the discussions that start out perfectly modulated with everyone being civil tend to turn into "Well you're wrong by the way, and here's why". It does that every other page or every three pages. Again, civil discussion and dissemination of information is fine, social crusades all too often turn into shouting matches where no-one gets anything done. (Note: Crusades and causes are not the same thing, but can become intertwined.)
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Nope, it's a full feature film in the same idea that 1 and 2 were.
  15. The recent influx of "professional" teams has lead to a real decline in good tournament play, to such a point that I'm not even watching it anymore. I'll occasionally watch a game that Larry David casts, but at this point I'm just hoping The International 2 has some good play, because recent tourney play has been full of mistakes that I wouldn't even make.
  16. Homophobic?

Does having strong feelings about something make it alright?
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

    Oh... oh no. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=dVwPgrQ_R_s
  18. Books, books, books...

When did that start anyway? Lord of the Rings, maybe? It's a shame because the old LotR blue ink covers were really neat. Re: Write Like The Wind, I love Paul and Storm.
  19. Homophobic?

I bowed out of both the feminism thread and this because I feel both threads have reached the point where there is no useful discourse going on (I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that feminism is a good thing and racism is a bad thing in a page or two of both threads) and they just became a whirlpool of "Hey, facts, you're wrong". I'm tired of these threads. And yes, I don't have to post in them, a-bloo bloo bloo, They don't have to continue for thirty pages more than they need to. I think what I said about this becoming the new morality squad fob is good evidence of this. A somewhat joking, somewhat serious post about a Twitter comment turned into three pages of this. And they definitely don't need to turn into what happened in the Twig situation. Yes, his experiences and feelings towards bullying/bigotry are different, and definitely do not reflect what most people go through in such situations, or how they come out of it. When you start insulting him for it? Get off your fucking high horse and stop posting about it. It's like Tumblr in here.
  20. Steam Summer Sale 2012

This is a retarded stance to take. Then again there are people who genuinely believe that Steam is the DRM devil, so I guess it's not that surprising.
  21. Recently completed video games

I never had that problem with it.
  22. Vanaman just throwing games left and right with his excellent QoP play. One of those things is true.
  23. How to care what happens in an FPS

I meant more an FPS, yes. I mean if you're not desensitized to killing pixel men yet, then maybe you don't want to play video games.
  24. How to care what happens in an FPS

I think all three of those options are too blunt, or to put it another way, are trying to force you to feel bad about what you've done. I realize that's what you want to do, but all those options remove the agency of guilt/emotion and just go "Hey, look at what a jackass murderer you are! Feel bad now." Honestly, I'm not sure it's possible.
