If you want a new game to look forward to that actually PLAYS like X-COM, might I recommend Xenonauts? http://www.xenonauts.com/

Maybe my view is a bit simplistic, but I tend to think of "emergent" game elements as being the unintended (to the player, not necessarily the developers) consequences of player interactions. For instance, intended consequences would be shooting someone to kill them, or stealing a car with some passengers in it and the dumping the car in the water to kill them, whereas unintended consequences would be hitting a rhino with your car and then having that same rhino stop a caravan that you happened to be about to ambush. The act of hitting the rhino was a player interaction with the world (or game systems if your prefer), and that interaction had the unintended consequence of stopping the caravan. I don't think it is a important whether something was intended to be done by the developers or not, how can we know exactly what the intentions of the developers were anyway? It's like art (if you'll forgive the analogy), you don't know every facet of the artists inspiration and direction in making his art, the only thing that is for you to know is the emotions it evokes in you. And of course the best examples of emergence are the ones that make great stories

I've actually come across this, it is somewhat less common than the people trying to steal your horse. They tend to be on the side of the road, instead of just any random place. Basically, the way you can tell they are different is that they don't come running after you, they just stand and wait for you to come to them, and they are usually beside a broken down wagon. They say that their wagon broke down and they need a lift to town.

Yeah, just fired up my copy to test this glitch out, works like a charm, with fire bottles, too. Never thought I'd be able to hit a bird in flight with a fire bottle, that's for sure. I hope they don't fix it, this is too cool. (Or, if they do, make it a cheat.)

Having seen that video, I feel my life is more complete.

Hahaha, yeah, I've been there. Although it actually is fairly easy to get disarms if you make sure to target his hand with the smallest crosshair. I've taken to shooting both their legs and then their hand, which is hilarious because by default they do the grab their hand animation after a disarm, and then after the animation they realize I shot both their legs from under them, so they flop on the ground and crawl agonizingly away.

My understanding is that it will support only up to 4 players, so yeah it's limited. Edit: 360 gamertag = morslok

Yeah, that's basically how I got my info. Yeah you get a Kentucky Saddler as part of the story. There is an achievement (or trophy) for finding and breaking all three fast horses, so that's some reason at least. Another reason is that the American Standardbred (black one) looks totally awesome. There's also another achievement related to the Hungarian Half-bred, so you would need that horse to get the achievement (it's a secret one).

AI War: Fleet Command By: Arcen Games Available: $19.99 from their website as well as various online software stores. Windows only at the moment, though it will be ported to OS X this summer and will be made more Wine compatible as a result (hopefully). Synopsis: Basically it is a real time strategy game/tower defense game that was designed from the ground up to be co-operative play oriented. There is no option for player-versus-player at all. It's you (or possible you and up to seven friends) against a couple AIs that control most of the galaxy. Also has a strong emphasis on exploration, both in the sense of scouting enemy held planets for rare resources to capture, and with the fact that you can play the game for over a hundred hours and still see completely new unit types. Currently has a $9.99 expansion called The Zenith Remnant which adds even more ship types to find and use, as well as new AI types to fight against. More expansions will be on the way (as well as free content included in patches, so even if you don't buy the expansions you still get more goodies to play with every couple months or so.) I had the exact same problem, although after I looked up the mechanics for dueling online there were two more instances of it showing the dueling tutorial in-game, so maybe they tried to make up for it that way... Still seemed inadequate though.

Basically, (this is my understanding, may not be completely true) there are three really sickly looking horses that go the slowest, and mules also fall into the slowest category I believe. Then there are the fastest horses, the Kentucky Saddler (golden colored coat), the Hungarian Half-bred (White coat, slightly darker face), and the American Standard-bred (Completely black). Anything other than the ones I've listed are considered "normal" speed.
