  1. Breaking Bad

I should say that the slow pace isn't necessarily a problem (there have been a few scenes I felt went on longer than they should have but that's a minor gripe). The premise, potential, and insane amount of praise are what's currently keeping me going. It's comforting to hear that it will pick up more though. Incidentally, Walter drives the same car I drove until about 2 years ago.
  2. Breaking Bad

So I've finally started watching Breaking Bad. I just finished the first season (didn't realize it was so short). I'm liking it so far, but the pace feels really slow. I'm not sure if that's because I'm just used to shit happening all the time in a tv show and have forgotten what things like character development and plot actually are. It may also be that I'm not binge watching it like I normally would and am sticking to one episode a day.
  3. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

You want the Anyone Remember? thread
  4. Nintendo 3DS

Mostly going to echo N1njaSquirrel. The latest Ace Attorney game, while not my favorite in the series, was still quite good and I felt actually looked pretty good with the 3D turned on. Pushmo and picross are definitely not the same. Pushmo is a puzzle game with some light platforming where you have to reach a goal (usually located at the top) by pushing/pulling different layers of a stage back and forth to create a path. Picross is more like Sudoku where you have to figure out what an image is based on how many blocks are in a given row/column and what pattern those blocks are in. That said, if she liked Picross she'll probably also like Pushmo. One point I'm going to disagree with N1njaSquirrel on is the fit. I also in general prefer the clamshell of the 3DS, but the 2DS actually fits my big hands better because you hold onto the entire body instead of just the bottom half. But I don't think the tradeoff is worth it because those screens are tiny and the 3DS is much more portable.
  5. The Fanart Collective

I get them all! ...because I get Teg to explain them to me
  6. I Had A Random Thought...

I never really went through that phase as a kid. I found fire interesting but never had a particularly strong desire to create it or see it. I was pretty much a stereotypical Asian child: extremely well behaved, good grades in school, played the violin, quiet and soft spoken, etc. which probably explains why I'm such an incredibly boring adult.
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

    Probably the movie Point Break
  8. I Had A Random Thought...

Honestly, my description of the event is probably giving him more credit than he deserves because I'm also fairly certain he was drunk (him having basically said as much) so "experiment" probably isn't the right word so much as "hey, I wonder what happens if I throw my cigarette at that gas can over there". I remember thinking he said a lot of other stupid things but not what those specific things were. It didn't help this his friend also expressed the same degree of surprise that movies where everything blows up are not real.
  9. I Had A Random Thought...

I'm not necessarily accusing people who don't know how gasoline actually works of being dumb, I'm saying that his expectation of TV and movies being a reliable source of knowledge is dumb, especially when it comes to facts and science.
  10. I Had A Random Thought...

I was playing online over the weekend and during one game I heard what may be the dumbest conversation I've heard in a while. Two guys (with really heavy southern accents) were talking about nonsense stuff when one of them said that he tried an experiment and was surprised by the result. It turns out the experiment was trying to use a lit cigarette to ignite a pool of gasoline. He was surprised because instead of a big fire like he was expecting the liquid gasoline just put the cigarette out. After several failed attempts he gave up. While that in and of itself is pretty dumb, the thing that struck me as the dumbest part was that the source of his surprise appeared to be the first time discovery that not everything in movies and TV are true. This wasn't a kid who perhaps might not have enough life experience to know this, it was clearly a young adult.
  11. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I'm not quite as down on Shovel Knight as Tegan, but I'm not nearly as up on it as most others seem to be. I think if it did exist in the era it's trying to evoke it would have become one of my favorite games. It does emulate that feel and style very well, but to me this is actually to the game's detriment. I think it tries too hard to be faithful and as a result ignores some more modern game design that would have made it more fun to me. I can't quite pin down any specifics, but in general feels old in a way I'm not particularly enjoying and I'm normally nostalgic as hell.
  12. Idle Thumbs 168: I Like the Hair

Some things about the Mighty Ducks that have been bugging me. The first Mighty Ducks movie did have one girl who was a figure skater and was the older sister of another player. Both of those characters were only in the first film. However the second movie had a former Olympic figure skater by the name of Ken Wu join the team, which is also the movie that introduced Julie "The Cat" Gaffney as the new goalie who does basically nothing until the very final minutes. The first Mighty Ducks movie was released in October 1992, only months after The Cutting Edge (March 1992) which was indeed about a hockey player who becomes a figure skater. The second film was released in 1994. Why do I know these things?
  13. Dreams!

Had a dream last night where myself, Jake, and a female forum member who may or may not actually exist (I don't remember who it was, just they they were from the Idle forums community) were robbing a bank that was disguised as a library. It actually looked a lot like the military archives in Goldeneye, the part right before James steals a tank. We snuck in and opened up the vault, and inside the vault was a video game. It was a Mario game, but this one was one of a kind because it was for the Playstation Vita and the only one in existence. Upon escaping with said game, we got back to our hideout and Jake put it in his Vita. After playing it for about 5 minutes, he was so overcome with joy that he openly wept. I told him he should talk about it on the podcast. The dream ended before I got a turn to play.
  14. The really weird thing is you can probably make more than they're worth by getting people to donate toward either destroying them or not because people will apparently pay for that even if it means they won't get the item.
  15. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

I finally hit level 100. I'm not sure if I want to do infamy though. Not looking forward to grinding for experience again. I might respec a few times and try out the other trees now that I can instantly get to the skills I want.
  16. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

You're probably right (and I'm fairly certain you are) but I would still love to see a corporation like Nintendo actually do something like this instead of taking the "safe" road.
  17. Non-video games

I don't play board games and have only a passing familiarity with games like Resistance and Shadows over Camelot (most of which has been derived from watching videos on YouTube), but Werewolf sounds almost exactly like a game I used to play in high school/college all the time, Mafia. In fact now that I look at the Wikipedia page more, it seems to be a commercial version of exactly that. So in a roundabout way I also endorse it because it was a ton of fun.
  18. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

I don't know anything about Kim Kardashian other than she's famous for no good reason and there's a mobile game with her name on it. So imagine my surprise when I found out that the game has gay relationships in it. Nintendo's life simulator went out of it's way to remove gay relationships while a crappy (although apparently not THAT crappy) free to play mobile game includes them simply because it does. This is the opposite of what I want.
  19. I Had A Random Thought...

I feel that way about my Steam friends list. I only regularly interact with a few of them and actually know in real life even fewer. Most are just people I met once when playing a game and they added me and I've never interacted with them since. Very occasionally we'll meet up again at which point we resume a temporary friendship that usually lasts the duration of that session. Every few months I feel like I should clean up my list but I usually don't for some reason. It really doesn't help that people keep changing their names so much that I don't even remember who the person was to begin with.
  20. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I would be simultaneously happy and depressed if it did.
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

I actually liked the 4th one, relatively speaking. The second is dumb and the third is even dumber. The third film introduced a new form of the creature called, I shit you not, Ass Blasters. They're capable of flight by igniting their own farts. It also served as the setup for the TV series, which was just as dumb if not dumber. The 4th one is a prequel movie that stars the gun nut's great-grandfather or something (played by the same actor naturally). I remember thinking at the time that it was more entertaining than the previous two, but it's not exactly hard to accomplish.
  22. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Baby Games. Or Games for Babies.
  23. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

Following up on the idea of funding exclusive DLC in developing games, Gamestop will have an exclusive story DLC featuring the Red Hood. With the already PS4 exclusive Scarecrow DLC, the pre-order Harley Quinn DLC, and some kind of prototype Batmobile from Walmart I wonder if Arkham Knight will approach Watch_Dogs level of content fragmentation.
  24. Help me forget about Olly Moss and move on with my life

Mington should do what I did and have random snacks sent to Olly for no reason. Cause there's nothing suspicious about that at all.
  25. Feminism

I said it before, but no one is suggesting that one woman represents the whole of women everywhere. Nothing is absolute, everything is relative. You're always going to be able to come up with special cases or one time situations. Perhaps I didn't explicitly state that a single woman's perspective would only represent her and not necessarily all women, but that's because I figured it was a given. Gormongous and I have repeatedly said that the conversation won't stop with a yes or no answer either. And I have to say, it seems pretty presumptuous that you assume everyone would agree with your interpretation. I'm not saying that everyone would agree with me, but a fair number of people have thus far been able to read between the lines here. Edit: And once again Gormongous beats me to the punch. I agree we should move on because we're not even arguing our original points anymore. We're arguing about our arguing.
