  1. DOTA 2

This is likely to be my only post in this thread and I'm ok with that https://twitter.com/ollymoss/status/506916154208575488 https://twitter.com/ollymoss/status/506919996979568640 https://twitter.com/ja2ke/status/506921716501590016
  2. New people: Read this, say hi.

Ever wish you could rewind time? I heard you can do that in Braid.
  3. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

This is probably my third time posting this video but it's so accurate for me.
  4. Nintendo 3DS

If that's weird then I am too because I also enjoyed this.
  5. Nintendo 3DS

I don't think it's onerous, I think it's silly. I understand the idea of wanting parental controls, that I have no problem with. But it's like Tegan said, Nintendo has to do it to keep the blame off because people will inevitably blame Nintendo instead of themselves.
  6. Nintendo 3DS

The scenario I keep imagining goes like this: Kid: Hey mom, can I buy this Pokémon game? Mom: Sure son. Use my credit card. Kid: Thanks mom. *uses card to unlock porn*
  7. Dreams!

I had a dream last night where I was a reporter trying to get a story in a large government facility. After my partner, who was essentially Lois Lane, distracted the guards, I snuck into the facility and discovered they were doing research on extinct animal species. The story ended up being a massive coverup of a deadly disease that reappears every few millennia and was responsible for wiping out entire species, including the dinosaurs. It was on the verge of coming back and the research was to find a cause and cure. The process of discovering this coverup somehow triggered the disease and it started spreading over the world. I apparently had a daughter in this dream because I called her at her isolated summer camp in the woods to tell her to stay at the camp because she would be safe from the disease. This entire sequence played out like a movie scene with no audible words but stirring music in the background. After a tearful goodbye, she and her friends decided to continue the research and find a cure (because it was now an extremely advanced science camp for some reason). After another movie like scene transition over several years, only she, another girl, and 2 boys were left. They all had beards, even the girls. They also looked a lot like the characters in Lumberjanes. It was the middle of winter and the majority of the world had perished (including myself I guess because I never reappeared in the dream after the phone call). They found out that a cure could be made from an extremely rare plant that would grow in response to the disease. Knowing of only one area where it could grow, they set out to find it. At some point in the journey they suddenly became puppies which struck me as strange but was perfectly normal to them. One of them succumbed to the disease and died. It was around this time that I woke up, very sad about the loss of the puppy person.
  8. Recently completed video games

I've been on a speedrun watching kick lately and the other day I watched one for Arkham City. It got me in the mood to play it again so I started and finished a new game plus over the weekend. I even used some tricks I learned from watching the speedrun (nothing like sequence breaks or out of bounds stuff, just little things like how to speed up combat or make some sequences faster). Still a fun game.
  9. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I'm weary of a megathread because things easily get lost in those and we have a lot of threads for games already. That said, I'd be into playing stuff I have when I have time. Also a group calendar seems like a good idea.
  10. I Had A Random Thought...

I'm assuming you're talking about the Schwarzenegger version? I haven't seen the new one but from what I understand it's radically different.
  11. Grim Fandango being remastered for PS4 and Vita

I got to do that once. At PAX one year I was wearing my Double Fine Adventure backer shirt (before the name Broken Age was decided) and we passed each other on the expo floor. He thanked me for backing and shook my hand. It was bliss.
  12. I think trying to pull a coherent timeline out of the System Shock/Bioshock/Gone Home/Firewatch universe is futile. Maybe it's one of those wacky alternate universes from Infinite.
  13. I want those naked teens who got mad when Jake threw the radio in the water to be Sam and Lonnie.
  14. Happy Birthday!

    Happy birthday to Sarah Argodale
  15. Idle Food - Cooking!

I tried this out a bit tonight. I changed it up some because of what I had in my kitchen and my own personal tastes. Still needs some tweaks but overall I thought it was pretty darn good. I'll definitely be messing around with it in the future. Thanks again Bjorn!
  16. The pad settles into the diagonal directions easily. Too easily. Hitting a cardinal direction and ONLY a cardinal direction requires more precision and it's far too easy to slip into a diagonal direction. It's something I've been able to overcome with practice, but the fact that I had to practice at all speaks to the design. Here's an old Destructoid rant about the d-pad, including some pictures of the actual parts. It's not particularly helpful because he does more complaining than explaining, but at least you can see some comparisons to other pads.
  17. Let me ask you this: have you ever used a Nintendo d-pad? Is the Xbox d-pad your first of this kind?
  18. Nintendo 3DS

I know the Wii and DS/DSi browsers were Opera based. Wikipedia says the 3DS browser is based on NetFront which uses webkit.
  19. Feminism

There's definitely truth to that. I'm willing to bet that there are shitty people at PAX who won't publicly reveal themselves along with others who will. But I know for certain that there are also really great people at PAX who do act publicly, some of whom are the ones that are actually in charge of running the show (by which I mean the Enforcers, not Mike and Jerry).
  20. Life

We should all get ridonkulous rifts and meet up in real virtual life.
  21. Feminism

First I'm going to be nitpicky and say that PAX Prime has already started. Secondly, I'm going to once again step in to defend PAX and say that I'm pretty confident that if push comes to shove the Enforcers would not allow PAX to be take over by shitheel gamers. I know several Enforcers in real life and on average I've found them to be intelligent, responsible, and reasonable people. There have certainly been incidents at PAX, it would be foolish to say otherwise. And I won't call it a completely safe space for everyone because that would be denying reality. But I honestly do think that if it got so bad that things came to a head, they would step in and kick these people out because I've seen it happen before with my own eyes. I could be wrong and that would make me unbelievably sad because I really do love PAX. It absolutely has flaws and they seem to be growing rather than shrinking, but I'm still hopeful this can and will change. I'm sorry if this ends up derailing the thread to talk about PAX again. It's an unfortunate truth for me that the only real contributions I can make to this thread are PAX related.
  22. Nintendo 3DS

Apparently there's also going to be some kind of built in content filter on the web browser that can be deactivated for 29 cents. I suppose I can understand the desire for some parental controls but this seems a little ridiculous.
  23. Idle Food - Cooking!

Good stuff Bjorn, thanks! I think I currently have most of those ingredients and I have a slab of ribs I was planning to make this weekend so the timing is perfect.
  24. Nintendo 3DS

I think the name of the device is literally New 3DS. So not confusing at all. I guess the current one will retroactively be called Old 3DS.
  25. Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo announced a "new" 3DS. Major changes include: A second smaller analog pad on the right above the buttons (Iwata compared it to the GameCube's c-stick) SNES controller colored buttons The addition of ZL and ZR buttons on the rear A microSD slot under the base cover Longer battery life (3.5-6 hours for the 3DS, 3.5-7 for the XL) The 3DS cartridge slot is now on the front Integrated NFC for use with Amiibos A new "Super Stable 3D" which will ensure 3D stays sharp even when the 3DS is rotated
