Thanks Teg and Ben

The really telling and scary part to me is they clearly recognize that these are damaging, horrific things to say because they're worried about how other people will view them. They know it's bad, they know that other people will think it's bad, and yet it goes on and on and on and on...

Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)
SecretAsianMan replied to tegan's topic in Video Gaming
On Friday the 12th, Nintendo is going to stream some stuff on Twitch, including the final version of Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS -
I have no idea where I'm going with this so forgive the rambling. This thread somehow entered my dreams last night because at one point I had a thought about whether or not The Old Man and the Lisa belonged in this thread. Specifically the scene where Mr. Burns goes to the Simpson household to enlist Lisa's help in getting his fortune back and he tells Homer he's there to see his daughter. When Homer asks him if he means Maggie, Burns' response is a very nonchalant "Ah the baby who shot me". My dream thought at the time was a vague notion how this was a sign the show was losing it by calling back to a previous crazy idea. When I woke up I tried to continue this thought but as I considered it more, I realized the episode was more akin to Lisa the Vegetarian than Lisa the Simpson. Lisa starts with a well-intentioned crusade, like she usually does, but instead of becoming a morality tale about recycling where Lisa is right, she ends up enabling Mr. Burns to become even more evil and her entire plan blows up in her face in a spectacular way. Whether or not she learns a lesson from this I don't really know (what lesson is there to learn except that Burns is evil).

The background math/science jokes are one of my favorite things about Futurama. The background jokes in the Simpsons are great too, but the math/science ones in Futurama are so much funnier to me because they totally fit in that universe but aren't distracting at all if you don't want to look for them. The Simpsons has a lot of math jokes too, but they feel much more out of place there because there's usually not a reasonable way to fit them in.

The biggest problem to me with "everyone's a victim" is the definition of "everyone". If you get a large enough sample size (such as all white men), then of course you're going to find some cases. The argument isn't that people of color and ONLY people of color or women and ONLY women are victims. The examples where people point out that a straight, white male is also being harassed don't weaken the argument that harassment predominately happens to people who aren't straight, white men. It strengthens the argument that harassment is just a terrible thing overall and needs to stop period.

I'm pretty sure the majority weren't booing Klepek. It's like seasleepy said, they were cheering his nickname Scoops (or false Scoops as I prefer to think of him. I really like the guy but there is only one Scoops and that's Hot Scoops). There may have been some people booing him, but then they'd have to boo the entire panel because I'm pretty sure all of GB would be considered SJWs.

Idle Thumbs 174: Live from the Metropolitan Ballroom
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Due Process is a neat looking game. There are some mechanics in it that I really like. I just really hope they're careful in how the final product turns out. I hope it maintains the sort of light tone that it has now. -

I remember that too. I love weird subtle tactics like that. I remember doing those kinds of things when playing Goldeneye multiplayer with my friends. A game built entirely on screen looking sounds like it would encourage similar shenanigans. -
I would imagine that most everyone at this point has a Google account. It doesn't bother me but I'll defer to the group consensus.

It wasn't actually mine but thanks anyway -
You do have to give the devs credit for admitting that Sarkeesian was right about their game.

I can't speak for the pure sciences, but the engineering statistic seems about right from what I remember. I recall one of my freshmen professors saying that there were more males named David than females in the entire freshmen class (myself among them).

In terms of control systems to go with the Rift, there's one product I know of called Control VR. It's basically a pair of gloves that allows precise movement to be captured, including fingers. It was successfully kickstarted for over $400k. The only reason I know about it is because their guy in charge of the gaming aspect is Brandon Laatsch, formerly one half of the Freddiew youtube channel.

Looks like the new 3DS is going to be region locked as well.

Probably. I forgot about it until just now so if it doesn't get done soon it'll probably never get done.

I wish I didn't need sleep at all, but we've covered that before in this thread.

Bayonetta is way over the top, both as a game and as a character. She uses her sexuality as a weapon (literally) so giving her high heel guns fits. Samus was given high heels because she's a woman and therefore high heels. They're completely illogical in her case and I find them incongruous with her previous portrayals as a strong, practical female protagonist.

I dislike sleeping on anything but my back. I can't sleep on my stomach because I don't like having my head to one side all night. I can't sleep on my side because I don't know what to do with my arm. At least those are the excuses I give. The real reason is that when I was a kid I once slept on my side and had a dream where my view was rotated 90 degrees. It was really disorienting and I actually woke up a little nauseated*. After that experience, I'm only comfortable sleeping on my back. *I had to look up whether it should be nauseated or nauseous. Score one for pedantry.

I assumed that the people who got upset at Samus's new duds were unaware of the reference to Fusion/Zero Mission (not that a reference is a good excuse) and believed that it was a new creation for Smash. I'm more annoyed by the fact that she'll be wearing workout clothes with ridiculous high heels.

Today is Labor Daybor! (The Labor Movement and Video Games)
SecretAsianMan replied to MadJackalope's topic in Video Gaming
Actually I feel like in a lot of games the opposite is true. While a lack of reward can lead to frustration I don't think a lot of players want proportional rewards. I can think of a bunch of games that are played with the least amount of effort required to gain the greatest return. People want the quickest and surest path to success. This is not a universal desire of course but it's a fairly common one from what I've seen. I have some examples but this is mostly off topic so I won't get into it. -
