  1. Idle Food - Cooking!

Cincinnati chili barely qualifies as chili. I used to live there and while it's fine for what it is, it's really more like soup disguised as chili.
  2. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Hey now, that's no way to talk about Jake.
  3. Idle Thumbs 175: It's an Itchio

You're all crazy, everything is delicious.
  4. All I could think of when she said she was interested in trying amateur boxing was "And in this corner, weighing in at 120-something pounds, JUNIORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINTS!!!!!!!!" *crowd cheers*
  5. Idle Food - Cooking!

I use a similar recipe for chili, subbing stuff as I feel. The one thing I always do though is use ground turkey instead of beef. In general I don't much care for turkey (I find it too dry) but turkey chili is great. I also sometimes cheat and add a jar of salsa to it.
  6. I actually didn't have a problem with it at all but I second this.
  7. Idle Thumbs 175: It's an Itchio

Nothing is off the table. Everything should be on the table so I can eat it.
  8. Oh yeah, I completely agree. I didn't mean to suggest that guests should receive special treatment or anything like that. I guess I'm projecting my own issues and frustrations onto the podcast which is really my problem and not yours so sorry about that. In the end, I think the take away should be that having Anita on was great and it should happen again soon.

So this is a thing http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/18/6392719/tgs-breast-demo-photos
  10. I know exactly what you mean. I love the back and forth, excited interruption style that the Thumbs have but that can make it tricky for someone who's not used to that flow. Its no one's fault; its just an unfortunate mix of timing and circumstance that we view it in this way. I certainly don't think anyone was intentionally trying to cut Anita off from sharing her thoughts but it did seem a little reminiscent of current internet style debates.
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I've considered more than once making a thread for happy news stories, not just about games but about life and humanity in general. Not so that we can ignore all the problems, but to occasionally remind us that there is still good out there, beyond the confines of these forums. The main reason I haven't yet is because I haven't found what I think is an appropriate first story.
  12. Idle Food - Cooking!

This isn't directly about cooking but it is about growing food. I use green onions fairly often in a lot of the Chinese dishes I make. I got tired of constantly needing to buy them so I finally decided to try growing some of my own. I'd heard before that you could supposedly place the roots in a glass with water and they would continue to grow if exposed to sunlight. After about 2 weeks of trying this, I can confirm it totally works. I chopped off the top part and left about an inch or so of the root, then placed it in a clear glass with some water and left it on a window sill. They started growing within the first day. I've changed the water every few days and now have a couple of full size pieces and some more that are continuing to grow. It's a handy trick if you use green onions a lot like I do. I'll add some pictures when I get home.

My cousin once tried to be a vegetarian when we were teenagers. She invented the vegetarian time-out which allowed her to eat things like hamburgers and still declare herself a vegetarian. She wasn't a very good vegetarian.
  14. I don't know, that sounds like a weird shitty practice to me.
  15. But they're not even like deleted scenes that got left out. They weren't directed by Shane Black and were basically there because China paid to have them there. It's pretty blatant pandering to an audience who saw right through it. I agree that the Asian market is being a much larger influence but I don't think you gain meaningful ground with token scenes of famous actors in cameo roles.
  16. I've seen that Pac-man game at a Dave and Busters before, but that was a long time ago. We did that for Star Trek TNG, DS9, and Voyager on this forum. We could probably do it for Farscape too. I had an idea for a Zelda game where you play as Sheik. Except instead of being the hero, you have to be like Sheik in OoT and sneak around in the shadows helping out an inept Link without being seen to maintain your mysteriousness. The thing about the extra added scenes is that it's pretty much like Jake said. The scenes didn't really add anything other than having 2 known Chinese actors in it and strange advertisements for Chinese products. Even the Chinese critics didn't like the scenes.
  17. I wanted to hear Chris talk about this https://vine.co/v/Oar0TpTg2d7
  18. Idle Thumbs 175: It's an Itchio

Aww, but the ocean is delicious!
  19. If this doesn't get Idle Thumbs added to a crazy unintelligible conspiracy chart nothing will.

ANTVGM64: Denial, Merus, and JonCole said lots of good stuff. Others after me will also probably say things better than I can. But I'm going to say stuff anyway. First, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to consider the situation the amount that you have. It's nice to see someone who doesn't automatically assume an aggressive posture. Second, I hope you don't take this the wrong way but if you feel like an asshole, maybe you should. That doesn't make you an evil person, it doesn't even make you a bad person. I'm an asshole about certain things, everyone is really. But if you feel bad at all (and it sounds like you do) it means that at least part of you recognized why these things being pointed out are harmful to some people. I totally get taking criticism personally, I think we all do. It is very difficult not to feel hurt when someone says something bad about something you love. But that's not the goal of criticism, at least not in this case. Media cannot evolve without change and change doesn't happen without critical thinking which is really what people like Anita Sarkeesian are trying to encourage. Sometimes the change is good, sometimes its bad. But we won't get anywhere if we don't take a look at what games are doing, both right and wrong. Its totally ok to like a flawed thing. Its not ok to ignore the flaws if they harm others. Its not easy but things worth doing rarely are.
  21. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

Yeah they're missing for me too

For a brief moment, I thought I saw the Campo Santo skull in that second picture.
  23. Feminism

For a video called Factual Feminist, I'm surprised at the lack of actual... well facts. I want to know who the gamers she talked to were and what academic studies she read. If she hasn't actually encountered misogynist gamers, I feel like she's never used Xbox Live or joined a public server with voice chat on. Also I reject her notion that men want to see male heroes and sexy women simply because they're men. That ignores such a huge number of people many of whom are in fact men.
  24. Feminism

I was rather surprised it wasn't blocked for me. If the ads really are being pulled from browser history, then I don't know what's going on there either because my work computer certainly hasn't been to those sites. I suspect that in the absence of other usable data, the ads will be targeted toward the largest expected audience (i.e. heterosexual dudes).
  25. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

I've considered making that thread multiple times but I have yet to actually use a single one of the services that sponsor the cast so I figured I'd let someone who actually has used them do it.
