You can have him. The voice they use feels very weird to me and I seriously hate the line "Yeah, I'm back".

I came to bring up that exact song. I haven't played 2 yet and I never did finish 1, but I remember really liking that it was in there. I don't play/watch a ton of other Japanese things so I haven't seen it that much. I dug it.

I'll be around tonight. It'd be great to get an actual group together.

Baby Got Backstory - A trope creation thread

Completely off topic but I have to answer this because I'm a dork. -
We should start you off with the Nightclub heist. We can relive the old Monaco days.

I did about 5 minutes of the Hoxton breakout mission before the rest of my team quit. I decided after that I'd rather do it with a more reliable group. I also haven't tried out the new skill tree yet in an actual game. I messed around with it by myself but not in combat. I switched back to my technician class because I figured a lot of people would be using the new tree so I'll try it later.

What I would love is that this is a precursor to new games being made. A revival, a remake, a reboot, whatever. I very much doubt that it will happen, but I'd love to see it. Really I just want another Dig game.

I was actually thinking about that movie recently as well. It was prompted by the discussion of the Baby Got Backstory trope thread. I don't want to get into detail about it here since the other thread is much more appropriate for it but basically I think the movie is an example of it for a lot of the reasons you mention.

Baby Got Backstory - A trope creation thread

Meh, I still think it's worth talking about because I think the nuances of the idea will come out of specific examples/counterexamples but I'll agree to table it. -
Baby Got Backstory - A trope creation thread

I agree all toons are drawn with intent and that she couldn't be replaced with any random character, but it's specifically the fact that all this was called out to begin with is what makes it part of the trope. As you pointed out, she already represents (and to a degree subverts) the femme fatale trope, but that could have been done without any justification. And to be clear, I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying I think it fits. -

In her case I'd say it's more like a human character being genetically engineered to have a good body which does fit the trope. She was drawn with the intent of making her sexy, she didn't become sexy through some random process. If nothing was said about it and she was included because she's an archetype of a stock character then I'd say the trope doesn't apply. But the reminder, minor as it is, that she was designed that way means it applies in my opinion. -

I agree with Twig. -
Looks like Sherlock might be Doctor Strange

Baby Got Backstory - A trope creation thread

That question sounds like it's trying to analyze how effective an instance of the trope is rather than whether or not it falls within the trope. I think the answer to your question can be "yes" and still fall within the trope. I would say that Firefly's Inara does it. She's sexy because of a conscious effort on her part to be sexy. She was specifically trained in how to be sexy. I think the way it's presented is reasonable but it's still an explanation of why. Contrast that with the other main female characters who are presented as attractive as well but without any specific reason other than that's who they are. -

I don't think that's an exclusion criteria. It doesn't matter if it's a minor detail or a major character trait, it's still an explanation of why she needs to be sexy. -
Idle Thumbs 181: Rumors & Hearsay
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Oh hey, a discussion about spoilers. I wish I could have jumped in on this early instead of being stuck at work. For me, spoilers are actually quite helpful. I'm the kind of person who watches a movie or plays a game and can't help but try to figure everything out before it happens. This means that I pay a lot of attention to detail but because I'm trying to work things out I tend to overlook the nuance of non-plot things like the performance or the art direction. Spoilers help me a lot in this regard because if I already know whats going to happen, I won't spend time trying to analyze it in advance and can pay attention to other things instead. The exception to this is when the majority of the appeal is the plot. The Sixth Sense is the biggest example of this for me. I wasn't directly told what the plot of the movie was, I was just informed that it had a twist. But that information alone caused me to look for the twist and I figured it out part of the way into the movie. It was an entirely mechanical exercise and ruined any kind of discovery. The as a result film was extremely boring to me so I never got blown away like others did. -
That video was great. He does state a lot of things as facts (none of which I disagree with mind you) without specific evidence but that stuff has been documented plenty of other places and isn't the purpose of the video anyway. I read a couple of the comments and my favorite was one gater who said (specifically in reference to Zoe Quinn) Yeah, because assigning specific people code names means you don't care about them.

Had a quick game with Jason last night. A couple of false starts but otherwise a good time. Would love to get a full group together. Maybe then I won't be the only one who doesn't know what he's doing.

That is definitely one of my favorite aspects of the show. I like serious sci-fi and I like goofy sci-fi, but I don't think any other show has balanced the two in the same way that Farscape does. In most other shows, they'll have "serious" episodes or "silly" episodes that stand out in contrast to the "normal" tone of the show. There's nothing wrong with that, but Farscape does such a good job of blending the two in the same episode. There are certainly episodes that are more serious or silly than others, but I don't think you can label any of them as the "silly" episode without brushing over a lot of nuance.

Idle Thumbs 181: Rumors & Hearsay
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
During the ad spot for Naturebox, Chris said "Go to naturebox.com/thumbs and enter the promo code thumbs for your free box of..." and for a brief moment I expected him to say "your free box of thumbs". And Sean is correct, the voice of Genie in Aladdin 2: The Return of Jafar was not Robin Williams, it was Dan Castellaneta, aka Homer Simpson. Robin Williams did return for the third movie, Aladdin and the King of Thieves, but not just for a paycheck. He returned because the studio apologized to him for using his voice in Aladdin merchandise despite previously agreeing not to. -
I feel like many of them take the multitude of blogs, articles, and tweets denouncing GG as a hate group as signs of "bullying". Its part of the words that were sent to Intel/Adobe to get them out of Gamasutra/Gawker. They see all of it as a campaign of abuse against gamers instead of a condemnation of deplorable actions by human beings.

And apparently it took less than an hour for the doxx.
