  1. I Had A Random Thought...

Toe shoes creep me out but I secretly suspect I'd like wearing them.
  2. I Had A Random Thought...

While we're on the subject of footwear, what does everyone think of those toe shoes?
  3. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

I would totally love to do that because I am a sucker for co-op of any kind. Unfortunately I also have zero spare money at the moment. Maybe someday...
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

Along those lines, I spent about 10 minutes one day learning how to tie this knot. Now I tie/untie my shoes every time I put them on/take them off rather than leaving them tied all the time and just shoving my feet into them.
  5. An email I sent to Giantbomb

I love eating potatoes. They're delicious pretty much any form. I just hate preparing them. It's so much work!

Merrells are traditionally meant for outdoor use in things like hiking or climbing. They're more rugged than a regular shoe but less flexible. They make running shoes as well but I've never used them myself so I can't personally speak to their performance. As a whole I've found them to be good quality, durable shoes so I think they're at least worth a look.

What does that do? Does it mean I can play it on the gamepad?
  8. Life

Yesterday on my way home from work, I took a slower but more winter safe route home. There was an accident and I ended up sitting in traffic for 20 minutes. Today I took my normal route home and there was another accident. It looked like some woman swerved off the road and headfirst into a pole. The front of her car was crushed. I saw her as they were carefully pulling her out of the car, laying her onto a stretcher, and loading her into an ambulance. The weird thing about encountering two accidents on two different roads on two different days is that the roads were totally clear on both days.

I almost used my Club Nintendo coins on Super Metroid, but it was pointed out to me that it's the Wii version, which means I'd have to play it on my Wii U in the Wii emulated mode with a classic controller, which I don't have.

In the normal sequence, beating the Spore Spawn will get you the super missiles (hence why the door in the picture is green). I don't totally remember either but I'm pretty sure you encounter it before Kraid. It's hard to remember the "correct" sequence after watching so many speed runs.

I really like Merrell brand shoes. They're mostly known for walking/hiking boots and shoes. I find them comfortable and durable even though I don't do a lot of heavy walking or hiking. My main complaint about them is they don't seem to have very good traction in wet/snow but I'm in the minority on that opinion (and to be fair, I've found that other footwear I've tried in similar conditions also slip just as much).

Kraid has a tricky quick kill. If you shoot enough super missiles into his mouth at the start, you can kill him before he's even finished rising from the ground. I dislike the spore spawn mini-boss. It's not really hard, just annoying because you have to keep waiting for him to open his big dumb mouth. There's a way you can skip the fight entirely if you get super missiles early.

Things I use too much: commas, parenthesis, and/or, /'s, the word "like", the word "but", the word "because", the word "actually", the word "thing", "", lists, the edit post button Things I don't use enough: semicolons, exclamation points, upside down exclamation points, §, tea cozies
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

My high school programming teacher had a thing about superfluous use of the word "like". Unless you were actually saying "I like this", he would always interrupt by saying "like? Like? LIKE?" several times. Even now I can occasionally hear his voice whenever I say "like".

    Thanks everyone.
  16. Best podcast of all time confirmed
  17. I Had A Random Thought...

Personally, I think I overuse commas, like a lot, sometimes even having multiple ones in the same sentence, for really no reason at all, other than the fact that I like inserting side comments mid-sentence, instead of starting a new sentence, which would be more logical, but not be as much fun, or as entertaining, or some other reason I can't think of, such as making a list to extend this thought, just so that I can use more commas, because commas are fun, and useful, and should be used everywhere, like this,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.
  18. When I heard Jake say "FUCK YOU" at the end of the podcast, I was really hoping that they implemented an idea that was previously brought up where one in every 10000 or so downloads would secretly redirect to an alternate version of the podcast and that I was the one guy who got the FUCK YOU ending. Unless that actually happened in which case this is the best podcast of all time.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

I don't know if this is applicable to everyone, but I just checked the offers available on my Chromecast and got the first X-Men movie for free.
  20. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

It's actually a good example of just how right and wrong the tactic can go.
  21. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

I really love that its in the game, I just wish it actually played a role beyond very specific edge cases. In a standard playthrough, there's zero reason to turn anything off besides just wanting to mess around.
  22. Life

Today is quite possibly the most stressful day I've ever had in my life. And its only half over. Note: I apologize if this is rude but please do not ask me if I want to talk about it. I love these forums and the people on them and I know many of you are more than willing to listen to my problems, having seen it offered many times before. I respect that tremendously but this is a personal matter that I'm not ready to share yet. I just needed to complain somewhere.

Actually there is one beam combo that was part of the route for AGDQ. The wave beam charge combo is used to kill Phantoon (the ghost boss of the Wrecked Ship) extremely quickly, but it requires rather precise usage. One of my favorite hidden techniques is the Crystal Flash. It requires you to have less than 50 energy and no reserve, and at least 11 power bombs, 10 super missiles, and 10 missiles. You have to hold L, R, the weapon button, and down on the d-pad while placing a power bomb. The bomb will explode and then engulf Samus in a white ball and refill her energy at the cost of weapon ammo. The technique is shown in the attract mode but there aren't any instructions in the game itself on how to perform it. The four power bomb beam weapon combos are also shown in the attract mode. Another neat trick is a technique known in the speedrunning community as the 'mockball'. It involves moving forward, jumping in the air, then quickly going into morphball mode and holding forward before hitting the ground. If done correctly, Samus will continue to move at the same speed she was before entering the morphball. This does not involve activating the speedbooster.

Side question: Do you know how to shinespark? It's a secret move that's taught to you by an ostrich-like creature (much like wall jumping is taught to you by 3 small creatures). It involves the speed booster.
