Do you have any kind of HR person you can tell about this? At my company we can anonymously report stuff like this if we don't feel comfortable doing it in person.

Can anyone recommend any good budgeting software/apps/sites?

Don't worry, we'll get it when he enters it into Mint's database. -
Idle Thumbs 196: Ode on a Grecian Hat Sale

I like achievements when they're akin to something like clicking a unit a bunch of times in StarCraft. Random, cool things the developer recognizes that not everyone will do but can act as a reward for the people who actually do it. Unfortunately achievements can also ruin those moments if you see the list in advance of doing the thing and lose all the surprise. -
I ran out of allergy pills yesterday and didn't have time to pick up more. Now I'm a stuffy, congested, sneezing mess. It sucks.

Tom Wheeler, Chairman of the FCC, wrote an Op-ed for Wired about Net Neutrality. In it, he outlines his plan to propose that the FCC use it's Title II authority on broadband (including mobile). In other words, he wants to classify the Internet as a utility. Doing so would allow the FCC to prohibit ISPs from discriminating based on content (ie throttling or blocking lawful content). Title II would also allow them to regulate the rates ISPs charge for service, but Wheeler said that he plans to modernize Title II and rate regulation won't be part of it. The idea behind that is to allow companies to invest in their networks without fear of losing money due FCC mandated rates, though presumably the FCC would still step in should companies charge too much. In general it seems to favor the consumers pretty heavily. Naturally, companies like Verizon aren't thrilled. The FCC will vote on the proposals later this month.

The background story for Super Mario Bros. was in the manual, like all games of that era. What's really crazy about the story (which I didn't realize until I found that image) is that the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom were turned into bricks and stones. Those blocks you're busting to get coins and flowers? THEY'RE PEOPLE. -

Mint would be my first suggestion, except that it relies pretty heavily on linking to your finances such as banks and credit cards. I hear about You Need a Budget fairly often. It costs $60 but you can try it for a month. It's also available on Steam. GNUCash is free and open source if that's your thing. I've only used Mint (and haven't updated it in a long time, I should really do that...) but it works pretty well. If you link it to your accounts it'll automatically categorize expenses, warn you of suspicious charges or fees, remind you when bills are due, etc. It's also free. -
I love TheSweetHome/WireCutter. I've gotten several of their recommends and so far haven't been disappointed by any of them (even after they updated the recommendation to something else).

Only One LGBTQ Person Allowed Per Team in LoL Tournament Um, what?!

This is my main use for Twitter. I follow a number of gaming sites (Kotaku, Polygon, IGN, Gamespot, RPS, GiantBomb and I think a couple others I can't remember) along with a handful of individuals and that's where the majority of my information comes from. I also use an aggregator app on my phone.

Damn you Club Nintendo, quit being down so I can get Super Metroid!

The individual videos for runs are being put up now on the GDQ channel I just watched the . That was amazing. It went back and forth several times, even going screen for screen at times. Also the was pretty good too.

This is the general Nintendo thread, at least it was until the title changed. It probably still is.

I really wish I knew that you had to register first when I got my 3DS/Wii U. I had a couple of eShop purchases that I could have gotten credit for had I known that in advance. I think it's dumb that you can't get the credit later once you associate the account with it but I guess there's no point in complaining now. I'm also leaning toward the same thoughts with regard to my coins. I have even fewer than you (500) so I'm slightly more limited. I'm probably going to get Super Metroid as well, and maybe a 3DS game. If I had 100 more, I'd probably get three 200 coin things instead of two. Also I find it interesting that Super Metroid for Wii U is 200 while Super Metroid for Wii is 250.

The Wii U version of Super Metroid is available now as a reward. I think I might get that. Also it's somehow cheaper than the Wii version?

Nintendo updated their Club Nintendo rewards catalog for the impending shut down and... wow. There is an insane amount of stuff here. I'm paralyzed by choice.

I'll once again echo Sno's sentiments. Prime is fantastic, though I didn't care as much for 2 or 3 (not that they're bad, I just enjoyed the first one so much more). Zero Mission is an enhanced remake of the original Metroid with Super style gameplay and some additional sequences (most notably the introduction of Zero Suit Samus). Fusion has some good gameplay and a few interesting sequences as well, but because of it's linear nature it lacks the exploration incentive of the other games. The story is terrible though. I don't personally like Metroid 2 but that's not because it's a bad game. Both it and the original Metroid are going to feel very limited in comparison to Super. Super added so many things that are now staples of the series like the speedbooster and power bombs (although Metroid 2 does have one ability not found in any other game outside the Prime trilogy, the Spider Ball). Other M is very action oriented and has some great combat moments, but the story is the worst thing to ever happen to the Metroid series.

Happy Groundhog Day everybody

I actually had the same problems with both Galaxy and 3D World. I just couldn't get the hang of the movement. I remember being really good at Mario 64, able to execute pretty much whatever move I wanted and have it work out exactly like I intended, but apparently between that time and Galaxy I lost those skills and now I'm an idiot who runs into goombas.

Much like how this thread became the potato thread because Dan Ryckert is weird
-
I've played this game for about all of 1 minute, but I'd gladly play on a Thumbs related server.

Is a potato ricer good for anything else? I dislike single purpose tools, especially in the kitchen where I have increasingly less space to put things. Right now when I make mashed potatoes (which isn't often) I use a masher first then smooth it out with a stick blender.
