  1. I Had A Random Thought...

Zeus bringing up Little Rascals and Honey We Shrunk Ourselves reminds me of a movie I liked as a kid, Little Giants. Even at that time I didn't get why a girl playing football was a problem, especially since she kicked everyone's butt. The only thing that bugged me about it was that she put her football uniform on over her cheerleading outfit which I thought looked silly.
  2. Nintendo 3DS

I actually really dislike Shadow Complex. I didn't enjoy playing it nearly as much as I hoped I would, despite how much I love Metroidvania games. I really, REALLY couldn't stand the 2.5D thing. Trying to shoot enemies in the background was an exercise in frustration for me. I could tell that it was well made and definitely fits the genre but I had basically zero fun playing it. That's a personal gripe though. I would still suggest it to someone looking for more Metroidvania games.
  3. Feminism

Also for what it's worth, I think those pictures you tweeted after you shaved make you look badass. You reminded me of Ridley from the Alien movies.

What differentiates fruit and berry flavors? Are berries not fruits?
  5. Nintendo 3DS

I've never played SOTN but I've always wanted to. I'm not super into the art style but it looks fun as heck. I'm especially interested in the level design, given the infamous second half of the game.

Surf Ninjas did have Rob Schneider. Also Kelly Hu, Tone Loc, and as I previously pointed out, Leslie Nielsen. Regarding animal movies, I really liked Homeward Bound as a kid. At the time I was reading a bunch of books/stories about animals, such as Call of the Wild, Where the Red Fern Grows, or one of those collections about memorable dogs like Balto or Hachiko. I remember watching Beethoven but don't remember anything specific about it. I was too old by the time Air Bud came out. I also vaguely recall Look Who's Talking Now. I never saw Babe.
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

I said it was dumb as shit but I still liked it. I really liked the Naked Gun movies at the time and I enjoyed seeing Leslie Nielsen play an over the top villain.

One series that I really appreciate the puppets in is Farscape. There's a lot of scenes where characters (especially Crichton) will grab or touch the puppet characters and it would be really weird if they were CG. I also really like the character designs, something I think would have been lost or much more simplified if they weren't physical. The movement is of course much more stilted but the alien nature of the characters let me buy into it. The few instances of CG Rygel made me appreciate the Rygel puppet more. Kind of in the same way that CG Yoda became this miniature, flipping, lightsaber wielding thing instead of the goofy, mischievous, fun character the puppet Yoda was.

I'm not as into Princess Bride as most other people are. I had never even heard of the movie until 7th grade when I moved to a new city and everyone talked about it constantly. I got tired of being out of the loop and watched it. I was left disappointed because of the extreme amount of hype everyone put on it. I think it's a good movie but I went into it expecting the greatest film ever made. When I didn't get that I was left kind of down on it. I love A Christmas Story but I've also seen it a billion times (thanks to it being shown every Christmas for 24 hours straight).
  10. I Had A Random Thought...

I liked The Goonies back in the day but my enthusiasm for it has waned over time. Bill and Ted is dumb fun. I loved The Sandlot but I haven't seen it in FOR-EV-ER (bonus points if you get that reference) so I don't know how it holds up. Rookie of the Year was ok, although there are certain parts of Little Big League that I enjoyed more. Blank Check never sat well with me. Even as a kid I didn't like that he just decided to take a million of this guy's dollars (granted that million was also illegally obtained but the kid didn't know that!). Surf Ninjas is an exceedingly stupid movie... but I still like it. I don't remember enough of 3 Ninjas or Ritchie Rich to have an opinion. I still like Home Alone. I remember wanting a Talkboy as a kid and being extremely disappointed that I never got one.
  11. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I agree with Griddlelol regarding Shovel Knight. I beat the game and nothing about it really stood out for me. I didn't find it particularly easy or hard. Nothing about it was very memorable to me (except for maybe some of the music, that was pretty good). All this is coming from someone who loves platformers and is nostalgic as hell. I just really don't get why so many people love it.
  12. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

    Short answer, yes
  13. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to our very own Jr. Mints! Happy Birthday Danielle!

Remember when you thought the lightsaber with the crossguard was silly? There's a new line of toys coming out that lets you make your own wacky lightsaber configurations, including a fucking knuckleduster.
  15. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

I constantly flip back and forth between Super and Prime for which game I like more (currently Super). They're both amazing and are full of details that I adore. I will say that Prime is one of the few games I've purposely gone for 100% because I wanted to get everything out of that game. I really loved being able to scan things and get all the information out of them. It also lets you do some sequence breaking by combining the lock on mechanic and clever jumping.
  16. Super Monday Night Combat League

It was really helpful being able to pick your brain like that. This game is not at all clear on... well anything. I suppose if you're more familiar with Lords Managements then it's an easier transition but I was sort of looking at it like TF2 with mobs and towers, which is not even close. The biggest hurdle for me to get over is the idea that I can't run out, die, then respawn an instant later to do it all again. The game throws a lot at you all at once, both visually and mechanically. I'm starting to wrap my brain around it though. Would love to be on a team I can communicate with though.
  17. Super Monday Night Combat League

I did try messing around a bit, but I never got into a game. Does it take a long time on average? I'd really like to give this a try but I don't want to spend 30 minutes waiting to play. Edit: Nevermind, I'm dumb and was trying Super instead of Turbo
  18. Idle thumbs sponsor deals

We don't have a thread with all the codes but the creation of one has been brought up a couple times. Now that someone has actually asked for it, we should probably start keeping that list. We can use this thread, or I volunteer to create one and I'll keep the first post updated as codes come and go. In the meantime, to actually answer your question the promo code Allard currently works at hover.com for 10% off (from episode 192).
  19. Super Monday Night Combat League

I've been considering trying it out a few times but was worried that by this point it would be nothing but seasoned vets and I'd just get my butt kicked everywhere. Hearing that there are in fact noobs like me is encouraging though. I might give it a go.
  20. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Finally got through to Club Nintendo and got Super Metroid. Still have 300 coins I need to spend.
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

It's definitely a fair question to ask. I just felt the need to defend my specific case since I'm the one who brought up my teacher in the first place. I'm pretty sure if you said something to him he wouldn't keep doing it and he definitely still listened to what you were saying. I exaggerated the amount he actually did it. Mostly it's just a thing I remembered because I took 3 classes he taught, one of which I was the only student. All that aside, I do understand your point. I'd personally never associated use of the word "like" with just women because by the time I was in high school it was a pretty prevalent part of everyone's speech. But now that I think about it I can see the link to the idea of the 'valley girl' and the association that comes with it. It is pretty unfortunate that a thing so many people do would be attributed to women when seen as a negative.

    Gamergate?
  23. I Had A Random Thought...

I'm not sure if you're talking about my CS teacher specifically, but I can say that with him it was certainly never about gender. He didn't care who said it, it was just a pet peeve of his. I was his aide one year and he did to me all the time. And he always joked about it in a way that clearly said he wasn't serious, he just wanted you to be aware that it was a silly thing. I don't think it ever crossed his mind that it was a "girl" thing.
  24. Life

My first thought would be their HR because it's their company environment, something your temp agency would not have control over. But then again maybe having your agency say something to them would be the appropriate protocol. How do you interface with them? Do you do it through a supervisor who's part of your agency or do you report to someone there?
