That kind of thing is usually my breaking point when it comes to playing a game. When the game stops being about the fun of playing and instead starts becoming about the reward you get is when I quit. The biggest example for me was Dungeon Defenders. I have a ton of hours in that game (over 1000 according to Steam) but when I think about it now I hate it. It's a loot based tower defense game which is fairly fun if you actually play it. The problem was that at high level play, because of the tower defense nature the optimal way to play was to set up your towers to do ALL the work while you stood around and let the game play itself. Getting high level gear wasn't about how good you were, it was about how much time you had to waste standing around for hours while you got up to the high numbered waves. I hit my limit with the game when I spent one entire Saturday on the same map standing in the same spot. When we reached the end, I stopped and said to myself "What the hell have I been doing?", realized I wasn't having any fun at all, and I've never played the game since.

I still find Steven annoying at times, but I'm a sucker for the kinds of things the show hints at a lot so I'm on board as well.

I see the Apple Watch Edition as a hardware version of the I am Rich app, an app that was released in the early days of the app store. It cost $999.99 and had no function besides showing off that you were rich enough to waste a thousand dollars on a joke.

The name of the 18-karat gold $10000-17000 Apple Watch is literally Apple Watch Edition. It's not Gold Edition or Fancy Edition or Extravagantly Unnecessary Edition. It's just called Apple Watch Edition.
-
The thing that bothers me the most with the gold watch is the name. Apple Watch Edition? What the heck is that supposed to mean?
-
Just think of how many Apple Watch Editions (man that's a dumb name) Notch could buy!

I'll always remember him the way he was depicted on the show

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
SecretAsianMan replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
As amusing as it was, I found Win Dave Lang's Money to be tamer than I was expecting. But maybe I have unrealistically high expectations by comparing it to previous shenanigans such as a Twerk Brad contest or seeing Dave Lang get a (fake) bottle smashed over his head. That part with Tim Allen's book was surprising though.- 1367 replies

I watched the newest season of House of Cards over the weekend. That show continues to be really good even though in general I dislike politics and movies/shows themed around such things. I also really enjoyed that they didn't attempt to hide Monument Valley and The Stanley Parable at all (although The Stanley Parable isn't named out loud). You can clearly tell that they're the actual games with the actual audio and not some generic public domain video game noises (for example you can hear the narrator in The Stanley Parable).

I have no positive or negative feelings toward Notch, but I will say that I hear his name a lot during various Games Done Quick marathons. He usually donates a few thousand at a time. On the other hand, he could have single handedly met the $1 million goal for the last AGDQ so I dunno. Also congrats 200. Fuck 200.

The form of y'all around here is yinz, to the point that people will self identify as yinzers. I personally prefer to use the word everyone.

It took me a couple posts to realize that the ME being discussed was Mirror's Edge and not Mass Effect. I hate acronyms.

I said no context!

Anytime.

Steam Link sounds great, but I'm interested in the controller. Did they show off the actual final design yet?

You are all the worst. This needs no context.

Bad news for anyone who was looking to play Gone Home on consoles. The console version is no longer being developed, at least for now. Their publishing deal with Majesco (via their indie publishing arm Midnight City) came to an end, possibly due to Majesco's financial difficulties. For now the studio will be focusing on Tacoma.

David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event
SecretAsianMan replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
I don't expect that watching the demo would ruin the game or anything and there's no way I'm not going to play the final release. But even knowing things like there's a map and compass you can use makes me not want to see anything beforehand. That sounds like an awesome thing, but it'd be so much awesomer if I didn't know that in advance. I feel like what I'm going to love about Firewatch is going to be the little details like that, none of which I want to know about until I can see it for myself. -
I played The Yawhg last night with Tegan (via Steam streaming). I don't remember our first ending but the second one ended with her building a stronghold and filling it with magical objects to fight crime while I sold dangerous drinks to the public which caused most of them to go blind. Basically she became Batman and I became a shitty Joker.

David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event
SecretAsianMan replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
I have yet to watch the demo and I'm somewhat torn whether I want to or not. I'd really like to go into it knowing as little as possible. I'm normally not one who cares about spoilers but in the case of something like Firewatch I feel that discovering everything about the game on my own will be much more satisfying. -
Man, being waitlisted for a college sucks. I was on two waitlists when I was applying and it was nerve-wracking. At least a straight up rejection letter doesn't prolong things. Being on a waitlist makes things decisions a lot harder since you're not sure if you should accept what you have or hold out hope that you might get in. I suppose the Pandora's Box analogy fits. Incidentally, I ended up going to one of the schools I got waitlisted on. It was my second choice, so all things considered it wasn't bad. I was also waitlisted on my first choice and when I called them up to ask about my status, they told me that I was second on the list but they got a higher than anticipated number of acceptances that year so the waitlist was never used. If 2 people had said no, I would have gotten in.
-
I honestly never understood the original story. If Pandora released all the evils into the world by opening the box, why was keeping hope inside a good thing? Shouldn't it also have been released into the world? Or was the intention to deny the world hope? Or is the hope being saved for something? Why was it in there in the first place?

The way I remember it, there was the original Drop7 made by Area/Code which I had. Then Zynga bought it and replaced it with the version I have And I guess they're updating it again or something? Either way, it's definitely been available for a long time in one form or another.
-
I'm confused, I've had Drop7 on my phone for years. Is this version different somehow?

Idle Thumbs 199: Bogost in the Shell
SecretAsianMan replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Now that you mention it, I think I have seen that one. It sounds familiar at any rate.
