  1. Idle Food - Cooking!

I also made turkey chili this weekend! But I forgot to get a picture. It basically looks the same but with more meat (I like my chili meaty) and no cornbread.
  2. Recently completed video games

I watched La Mulana played at one of the Games Done Quick marathons and was extremely intimidated by it. It looks interesting and good but man.

  6. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Meh, considering the subject matter is Star Wars I'd say it's about as good as any other source.
  7. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

That was in fact my source.

  9. Life

Aaaaaaaaand now we have 2. Whatever, I'll let you cat people* figure it out amongst yourselves. *I don't hate cats or anything, I'm just SUPER allergic to them so I'm not a cat person by default.
  10. Feminism

Man, a Chinese terracotta Wonder Woman would be amazing.
  11. Idle Thumbs 201: Adults Only

Steve should populate the rooms of his house with audio logs.
  12. Movie/TV recommendations

That's fine. I wasn't trying to put you on the defensive or anything, just explaining my own position.

I don't mind experimentation but I think in this instance it didn't work very well. I'm ok that they tried it, but that doesn't mean I want more of it.
  14. Feminism

I like the wrist blades. I think they better reflect her upbringing as an Amazon warrior. Plus they'd probably function better as protective shields than the tiny bracelets she used before. I have to imagine they're removable or retractable somehow.
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

Tomorrow is Pi day (provided you use the month/day/year date format). On top of that, it will be an especially accurate Pi day at 9:26:53 (or 9:26:54 if you want to round).
  16. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

When the expanded universe was first being planned after the movies came out, Lucas wrote a series of notes and guidelines for expanded universe authors. Those included information about the midi-chlorians. So it is documented somewhere.
  17. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

I thought I told you people to stop me. After looking this up some more, midi-chlorians are microscopic life forms that inhabit all cells, not just blood. The midi-chlorian count is given as the average number per cell, not the total in the body. So while Anakin/Vader did lose several of his limbs and thus had a lower overall count, his average number per cell didn't change. Since it was already considered to be the highest ever recorded, it didn't really make his connection to the Force any weaker. Some more pointless information: Lucas had conceived of the midi-chlorians as early as 1977, so in his mind they were always part of the Star Wars universe and not something he made up just for the prequels. The reason they aren't mentioned at all in the original trilogy is because after he became Emperor, Palpatine banned all research into the midi-chlorians (Wookiepedia even has the statue number for this) and all the Jedi's data was purged along with the Order. At one point during the prequel timeline, there was a Jedi who came up with a plan to test the members of the Senate for midi-chlorians to look for the Sith that was supposedly controlling it. This Jedi went to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine with the plan, but since Palpatine was the Sith they were looking for he convinced the Jedi the plan would be a political disaster. When Palpatine learned that the Jedi had not yet informed the Jedi Council of his idea, he secretly had him killed.

RE Arrested Development Season 4: I didn't really like it that much at all. It absolutely felt like a different show, which really killed things for me. By focusing for so long on an individual character or two, you really start to see their flaws in a much more obvious way. At the end of each episode, I ended up not liking the characters very much because too much time was spent with them. With the original format, cutting from one scene to another gave me just enough to be amused by the situation and antics but not enough to start being annoyed by them. I'm not 100% sure a version cut to be in chronological order would necessarily make it better but I'd be willing to give it a shot.
  19. Life

I've never read any of Practchett's works, but seeing what people have been saying about them all day I feel like I should.
  20. Life

I sympathize with you. There's a lot of guys around here that are at or rapidly approaching retirement age and the younger engineers around (including me) are not being trained nearly enough on their knowledge and experience. We're not replacing them nearly fast enough so as the number of retirees increases, the amount of workload on the remaining personnel also increases. This has led to a lot of long days and unpaid overtime for many of us. I've had what I would describe as a panic attack several times over the last year or so. It's probably not a real panic attack by a clinical definition, just a feeling of being extremely overwhelmed and having it all suddenly burst out in one very emotional moment. I didn't quite have the same moment as you did but pretty close I'd imagine. It's good that you're able to let it out if you need and have someone there to help you with it. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to share it with us.

  22. Idle Thumbs 201: Adults Only

Well there was the time that Chris sang "Space Oddity" during the Kerbal Space Program stream and Idle Thumbs lost it's kickstarter money to David Bowie.
  23. Dreams!

I had a dream last night that I used Uber (which I've never done) to get a ride to the airport. Except my Uber driver turned out to be George Clooney. Instead of driving me to the airport, he instead drove me to an empty restaurant and we ate a meal cooked by various celebrity chefs (such as Mario Batali, Bobby Flay, and Alton Brown). After the meal he finally took me to the airport and I got in a private jet flown by John Travolta. It turned out that I had won some contest, although the entire time there were no cameras or anything telling me that it was part of a contest.
  24. Feminism

I'm not super knowledgeable about this personally, but from my understanding a large portion is also about trust. In consensual play you are absolutely allowed to stop at any time, which is why safewords exist. But ideally you'd never want to use them because you trust your partner enough that it shouldn't be necessary (though it's still good practice). That level of trust in another person creates intimacy and is very attractive for some people. Naturally that level of trust changes when money is involved.
