OH MY FUCKING GOD IT WORKS! I'm scarfing down my lunch right now so I'll explain later but it WORKS!
  2. I was bummed that a Far Cry 420 joke was not made on the podcast. On that reader mail about the Link's Awakening exploit, I totally remember discovering that one day as well and broke the hell out of that game. In fact I broke it so much I never finished playing it because I got myself into a situation where I needed an item I didn't have and couldn't glitch my way back out. Kid me was too impatient to start a new game and adult me is too busy to replay it.
  3. Oh yeah, I forgot about the pillows. After getting a latex bed, I went all in and got a latex pillow as well. It's the only one I've ever had that hasn't gone flat after repeated use. I think they're great.

I feel as though we've had this conversation before...
  5. Latex mattresses are the best. I first got one when they were a new thing and I've only recently finally had to get rid of it after about 15 years. I still think its the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. Getting one for less than a thousand is an amazing price.
  6. I Had A Random Thought...

I've been driving since I was 16. I think the longest continuous period I've gone without driving a car is a month. I've only ever lived in places where driving was a necessity either because of a terrible to nonexistent public transportation system, or because every is just too damn far away to walk/bike. The few times I have been in places with decent public transportation, it was really nice to not have to worry about how I'm going to get around. Having a car is nice because it gives me the freedom to go where I want when I want but there are a lot of times I wish I had another option. I hate needing to drive to the store just to get a single thing like milk so I always end up talking myself into getting more so the trip doesn't feel like a waste.

The Killing Joke as an individual story is definitely about the Joker more than it is about Batman or Batgirl. He's the central focus and the plot revolves around his attempt to drive Gordon insane by making him have a "really bad day". However you can't deny that the biggest repercussion to come out of the comic revolves around Barbra. People remember it as a great work (which is debatable) but the specific thing they remember that happened was Barbara getting shot and subsequently becoming Oracle. If you take her out of the picture, it's pretty much a regular Joker does an insane thing and Batman stops him kind of plot.

I don't think the Joker flat out states he raped her or anything. He knocks on her door and shoots her in surprise when she opens it, then proceeds to strip her naked and take photos of the process. He shows the photos to her father in an attempt to drive him insane. Anything beyond the photos is pretty much speculation but at the very least it's some form of sexual assault. Part of the reason the pulled cover was controversial was the sexual suggestions it was making in its allusions to the Killing Joke. It's definitely an example of women in refrigerators. Like I said, I like the stuff that came out of it, I just wish it could have come about as a result of something else.

One thing I want to clarify about my post: I don't mean that the Killing Joke specifically had to happen for her to become Oracle (although there are some comics that came after that basically say it had to happen which is kind of bullshit). I agree there are definitely better ways for that transformation to occur. (Not that I think you were calling me out on that, I just wanted to make my thoughts clear)

I have mixed feelings about the Killing Joke. Significant spoilers ahead for the comic if you don't know anything about it, but I'm not going to hide them because they're crucial to my entire point. On the one hand, it involves the Joker shooting and paralyzing Barbra Gordon (in her civilian identity, not even as Batgirl) then stripping her clothes off and taking pictures in order to torment her father. Obviously they don't directly show rape but it is certainly implied. The reason the Joker attacks her isn't because he discovers she's Batgirl or because he's committing some random crime, it's to get to her dad. Barbara is basically a tool, her involvement incidental because she's the Commissioner's daughter. Additionally, it becomes a major focal point for her and is frequently revisited in subsequent comics. Her male peers in the Bat family don't seem to have this problem even though they've been through similar trauma (ie Batman and Bane, Jason Todd and Joker). On the other hand, she overcame this great adversity and created a new identity as Oracle, a physically handicapped superheroine. She fights using her intelligence and forms her own all female team, the Birds of Prey. I think the Oracle character was great and it obviously wouldn't have happened without the Killing Joke. Additionally you get other women who take up the mantle of Batgirl like Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown, who would also likely not have existed if it was always Barbara. I guess in the end I don't like the Killing Joke itself but I liked some of the stuff that happened as a result.
  11. I once did something similar with a friend of mine. I was visiting him and we for some reason decided to play drinking Day of Defeat. We both joined the same game but on opposite teams. Every time the other guy killed you, you have to take a shot (we were also drinking Jager). This was a HORRIBLE idea for me because he's way better at the game than I am. Also WarioWare: Smooth Moves for the Wii is the best drinking game of all time. It's a game that relies upon making stupid poses while playing 5 second minigames that require reflexes and timing. And the multiplayer modes are perfect for choosing who has to take the shot. Just don't have anything breakable nearby.

I considered bringing up the Batgirl cover thing in the GG thread when they jumped on board. #ChangetheCover was floating around when it first started which naturally got combined with #GamerGate when they started getting into it. Because of course video game ethics and comic book covers go hand in hand. Although I did enjoy the response one of the writers had that Batgirl was written to be a literal Social Justice Warrior, revealing that the people complaining that SJWs are the reason the cover got cancelled are the most clueless people ever.
  13. Android Games

Amazon's offering a bunch of apps for free Only some of them are games but you've got ones like World of Goo and Cut the Rope. One thing to note is that although Kingdom Rush Origins is listed, it's only available on Amazon's Fire products.

You mean you can't Nick their stuff cause you were always Breckon it?

Notice that I left out the part about running with a bomb in my hand while a giant monster chases me.

I have one of those near me too. I drive by it on the way to buy groceries, but I've only been inside once and never bought anything. I should go back, I have several tools I'm currently or will soon be in need of.

You know that scene at the end of Tremors where Kevin Bacon runs toward a cliff screaming "I've got a goddamn plan!" I feel like that right now. I may have found a solution to a big problem that presented itself yesterday. It's a long way from complete but I think it's going to work. I'm cautiously optimistic.
  18. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

I honestly hope they DON'T port old games. Those games were designed well before touch screens and accelerometers were a standard thing and I imagine would play very poorly on a modern cell phone. Old games need a pretty high degree of precision to be played well, something I imagine wouldn't work in a straight port. I supposed you could try and update it but the amount of changes I suspect would be required basically means you're just making a new game.

I'm glad you found your issue, but I still recommend getting that multimeter if you can. Could be handy in the future. Speaking of which, I need to find mine...

My condolences. I only have one surviving grandparent right now so I know how you feel. It's a hard thing to parse and though you might (sadly) get used to it, it never really gets any easier.
  22. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

You may want to check a pinout chart for your connector type. Something like this
  23. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

Do you have a multimeter? Can you check the output of your PSU to see if the mobo is even getting power? If it is, then I'd probably say that's the culprit and you need a new one. If you're not sure how to do all that, here's a good guide.
  24. Idle Food - Cooking!

I'm a big guy who can eat a lot. Stuff like that barely fazes me. I also have a really fast metabolism so pretty much no matter what I eat I'll be hungry again in a few hours.
