  1. Jake talking about dropping a whale in the middle of GTA made me think of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  2. I Had A Random Thought...

At this point I've got something for everyone except Sean.
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

    What's a good taffy?
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

I'm assembling another candy package for our favorite podsters and I need some ideas again. Jake's getting his usual, Danielle's getting Jr. Mints of course, and one more item I'm going to keep a mystery for now. I know they already get a good amount of edibles from the sponsors so I don't want to send too much, but I'd like to have something for everyone if possible. Any suggestions? Edit: Ok Chris is covered now too.
  5. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

That's a possibility, but everything seems to be working ok so I'm not sure what it could be.
  6. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

So I checked my HDD again. Yup, still dead (this makes it the third one in the last 5 years). Then I tried a doing a system restore with a backup from my external drive. Windows wouldn't boot. After messing around some more, I gave up and did a clean install of Windows. 200+ updates later (that's not an exaggeration) and it works, but I'm starting from scratch. I'm going to try and keep it at a minimum for now, at least until I can get a new machine.
  7. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

My hard drive failed the other day and I haven't had time to fix it yet. This means that for the first time in probably 18 months I've missed the Spelunky daily challenge.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

Well, there was the episode "Mad Love" which features this scene The episode is an almost exact reproduction of the award winning one-shot comic "Mad Love", which was also written by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm.
  9. Random side fact: initially, Crosby had auditioned for the role of Troi and Sirtis read for the role of Yar. After hearing them both, Roddenberry decided they would be suited for the opposite roles and switched them.
  10. Rogue Legacy

Rogue Legacy was one of the games run during AGDQ this year. I'll bet some good tips could be found there for using as few lives as possible.
  11. A lot of people were upset at Generations because of how Kirk went out. They felt it wasn't a suitable ending for the character. I never much cared for Kirk to begin with so that part never bothered me. I agree that none of the Star Trek movies are very good Star Trek, almost entirely because they're movies and have to appeal to a broader audience, thus the popcorn action movie feeling. However, in the context of a sci-fi action movie that happens to take place in Star Trek world, I like agree with tberton and like First Contact the most.
  12. I finally finished up Daredevil. I still think it moves way too slow and the level of violence was kind of off-putting but otherwise I enjoyed it. Fisk ended up being a far more interesting (if a little clichéd) character than I was anticipating and the show picked up a lot more once he got involved. I'd watch more of it.
  13. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

Luckily, I anticipated this happening and have been backing up my computer every couple of months to an external drive. I think my latest backup is less than two months old so I won't have lost a ton of stuff. Also it's times like this that I'm grateful for the cloud.
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Even after all these years I still can't believe there's a Captain Boomerang. I will never be able to take that character seriously.
  15. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

I think my hard drive died. I was playing Killing Floor 2 when the game suddenly froze, then Windows crashed, and when I rebooted it wouldn't recognize my hard drive. I have some spares so I'll give those a shot and see if that's the problem, but I'm also debating just getting a new computer. I'd like to get an ssd, my graphics card needs upgrading, my processor is at the end of its supported lifecycle, and my case is way oversized considering I'm not even using most of the bays. I'm not sure I want to build another one though, I might just buy one because I don't have a lot of spare time or energy to keep doing this. Plus I have really bad luck with ones I've built but the ones I've purchased have been great.
  16. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

Last week, WB and Rocksteady announced that Arkham Knight will have a season pass that offers 6 months worth of content and costs $40. Yesterday, WB responded to the criticism that this was a lot of money without much info and gave out some details on what's actually in the season pass. Some of the stuff will be: Batgirl: A Matter of Family - An all new prequel story expansion in an entirely new location where you play as Batgirl for the very first time in the Arkham series The Season of Infamy - Play as Batman in all new story missions featuring legendary supervillains invading Gotham City, with new story arcs, missions, and gameplay features Gotham City Stories - Play as Batman's key allies in narrative missions extending their storylines, from both before and after the events in Batman: Arkham Knight Legendary Batmobiles with themed tracks - Drive the most iconic Batmobiles from Batman's 75 year history, on custom built race tracks, each themed to that Batmobile's specific era. Every Batmobile will be drivable across every race track Crimefighter Challenge Maps - Engage in a series of new challenge maps utilizing the unique play styles of Batman and his allies Character skins - A variety of skins from across the eras for Batman, Robin, Nightwing, and Catwoman $40 is still a lot considering half of that is races, skins, and challenge maps. Although I have to admit, the idea of being able to play as Batgirl does sound pretty cool.
  17. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

May the Fourth be with you.
  18. Life

I get those as well. I assumed it was because YouTube is unable to recognize whether I'm for or against stuff like that and just shows me everything. I've started telling it I'm not interested and for the most part they've disappeared.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

Just watched Avengers: Age of Ultron. Pretty good fun. The plot makes less sense than the first but it was entertaining which is really all that matters.
  20. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I didn't even have Broken Age installed on my desktop until two days ago. Hopefully I have a cloud save and won't have to replay Part 1 (although I don't really mind doing that anyway).
  21. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

If you plan to play both, I'd do Super before Zero Mission. Movement in Zero Mission is much easier compared to Super. Even though Super is my favorite Metroid, I'll admit that Zero plays better.
  22. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

While it's not the most interesting or well written backstory, I still like it enough. The way I saw it was that the Chozo consider themselves as artisans, philosophers, and scientists more than warriors, but they clearly saw that Samus had a different path. Samus' abilities are the result of her upbringing by the Chozo and the equipment she got from them, but she manages to surpass them by accomplishing what they couldn't on Tallon IV (and other places I won't mention specifically). She's basically their legacy.
  23. I Had A Random Thought...

One of the more annoying things about working the back shift is it messes with my pooping schedule. This post is dedicated to Zeusthecat.
  24. I Had A Random Thought...

I need to pick a doctor as well. I have a rash on my leg that I really should get looked at. Plus I have all this money in my HSA.
  25. Jake joked about a Skyrim mod pyramid scheme, but that sort of actually happened. Or it would have if the paid mods thing continued. There are a lot of mods that apparently require a mod called SkyUI to function properly, and the creator of SkyUI said that his mod was going to become a paid only mod. This of course angered a lot of people. At least that's my understanding of the situation, I've never played an Elder Scrolls game. In general I think the paid mods idea could work. I'm with Jake in that I like the idea of there being a way for mod creators to earn. I just think that Valve picked a bad starting point. Trying to interrupt an existing mod scene like this is pretty much only going to be met with contempt. They need to start with a new game and show that it can work from the start instead of trying to tack it on to something that already exists after the fact. Also they need to be way clearer about how its actually going to work. I saw a LOT of false information and assumptions being thrown at Gabe in his AMA.
