David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event
SecretAsianMan replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
I don't disagree with any of that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it would be really easy to do it poorly, either by too rigidly sticking to the game or doing what most video game movies to and make up whatever they want with minimal relation to the source material. That's why I'd like a side story. It would give the opportunity to flush out existing characters more without being too beholden to the game. -
David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event

I'm fairly skeptical about this. I worry if it sticks too close to the game's format then we're literally only going to see one character the entire time which is difficult to pull off well in a movie. On the other hand if it gets changed enough that its Firewatch: The Movie in name only then what's the point? Honestly what I'd love to see is a side story of sorts. Something that takes place in the Bioshock Gone Home Firewatch universe but isn't a retelling of the game, perhaps something involving Delilah, Ned, or Brian. -
While I haven't started watching it yet, I noticed that the fifth season of POI is now on Netflix. They were kind enough to add it to my queue and include it in my recently watched list even though I haven't watched the show in months.

Whelp, tonight is the first night in my annual (and sometimes biannual) work overtime for a month at night while not getting overtime pay. So long Mr. Sun, it was nice knowing you.

Idle Thumbs 280: Hamburger Mode
SecretAsianMan replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I once wrote up a simplified version of the proof for why summing the digits in a number can determine if its divisible by 3 in another thread. Divisible by 9 is the same concept, just swap divisible by 3 with divisible by 9. -
A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
SecretAsianMan replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
I was not at all into DS9 when it first aired but after my rewatch a couple years ago (gee, has it really been that long?) I like it way more now. I think I still like TNG and Voyager a bit more, but I'll totally admit DS9 has my favorite Star Trek character on it, Garak. -
I disagree with most of that. I see where you're going with the comparison to the Flying Hellfish episode but I see it completely opposite. The Flying Hellfish story toys with expectations and stereotypes. The gruff old WWII vet who constantly tells exaggerated stories turns out to be less senile than you expect and casts doubt on how exaggerated his tales really are. It doesn't get mentioned later on because its a secret bond between him and Bart. With Skinner though, the "revelation" that he's Armin felt really cheap and lazy to me. Its literally undone at the end of the episode. Its referenced in later episodes but entirely as a self-aware joke. I don't agree that the behavior is what you'd expect from Skinner at all. Skinner was long established as a straight by-the-books principal and mamma's boy. I never thought of him as doing what people expected or wanted (outside of his mother), just being what he was. Armin may have been a very malleable character but not Skinner. I think the changes to his character brought on by his trysts with Edna are far more interesting and well developed (albeit taken a bit far towards the end).

A good number of critics think that The Principal and the Pauper is when the show jumped the shark.

Interplay has put its IP library up for sale. I hope someone picks up Freespace. While I'm not sure I'd actually play a new Freespace game, Freespace 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. And I say that as someone who isn't into flight sim games.

I've been meaning to update this thread. While I'm largely preoccupied taking care of a baby, I've also been getting back into KF2. It's been a while since I last played and there's been a LOT of changes since then. 3 new classes, a bunch of maps, a new boss, a lot of tweaks, and a reworking of perks. There's far too much to go into but overall the game feels more balanced and nuanced than before (although it seems like the Firebug got nerfed into oblivion). I think the game's official release is a couple months away now so it seems to be nearing it's final state. Anyone still playing?

My sister-in-law thinks ketchup is too salty so she'll add sugar before dipping fries in it. Apparently this is not an uncommon practice in China.

Idle Thumbs 277: Coming Attractions
SecretAsianMan replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yes I do -
Man I loved Republic Commando. Its a really underappreciated game.

I saw Jason Bourne over the weekend. While not terrible, it felt entirely unnecessary. The first three were much better (I don't count the fourth one at all).

Idle Thumbs 277: Coming Attractions
SecretAsianMan replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I feel like within the last couple years that a number of trailers have shown scenes that are either not in the movie at all or are different from the actual scene. I imagine these are unused takes, different camera angles, or scenes cut from the final product. I have no idea if this is intentional or not on the part of the filmmakers. Maybe the trailer was made before the film was in its final form, maybe they're aware of trailers giving away too much. What I'd like to see is a trailer that contains no scenes found in the actual film while still telling you what the film's about. -
They look like cheap fake manufactured food but they're actually quite tasty.

I love those things.

Should I not?

Pizza Hut here does that now. You can order one of several "drizzles" to put on your pizza including honey sriracha.

I need to do that before it slips too much from my mind

After reading through this thread I also picked up Card Crawl and have been enjoying it. Good job internet forum

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
SecretAsianMan replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
I think Dan just likes to argue and his acknowledgement that he knows nothing is his way of justifying picking a fight he's not actually interested in having. The fact that he sticks to his guns so much in the face of clearly contradictory and well reasoned information just because it doesn't make intuitive sense to him is the part that really bothers me but I also know that sometimes trying to argue with people like that leads to nothing but frustration. His willingness to at least say that he has no clue what he's actually talking about puts him slightly above a Reddit troll and is kind of the thing that makes me able to stand him.- 1367 replies
