Lara Croft GO and Deux Ex GO are both now available for free on Amazon Underground, with Hitman GO on the way.

I watched the White Rabbit Project over the last few days. It's a Netflix original series that stars the former Mythbusters "build team" of Grant Imahara, Kari Byron, and Tory Belleci. It vaguely resembles Mythbusters in that it investigates stories and ideas in a pseudo-scientific way but I'd call it more documentary than anything. Each episode looks at 6 ideas or concepts for a given topic (such as Crazy WW2 Weapons or Tech We Love To Hate) then scores them based on 3 criteria and ranks them. Many of the 6 are historical and their discussion is just a presentation of their information. A few are recreated or turned into experiments but with much less explanation than Mythbusters and far less detail. The historical aspect of it was actually a lot more interesting in some of the cases (such as a British plan to sabotage Hitler by lacing his food with estrogen). The rapport between the three is about the same as on Mythbusters but frankly I found the show overall less entertaining and far more subdued.

Idle Thumbs 291: Mid-Jam Power Move
SecretAsianMan replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I was walking out of my local Omaha Steaks store and not one minute later I heard Idle Thumbs do an ad read for Omaha. It was surreal. -
I've commented before that I want Roll7 (the makers of OlliOlli) and Night School Studio (the makers of Oxenfree) to collaborate and make a game specifically for that joke.

My daughter was being fussy over the weekend so I watched Zootopia with her. Standard plot hole complaints aside, pretty good movie. Some cute and funny moments. I had forgotten the story is a thinly veiled allegory for racism and prejudice. I like that they went after a actual topic but recent events have made me wish real life worked so well.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes

I once made a similar remark -
KF2 is out of early access and has officially been released today for PC and PS4. There are a total of 10 perks, a number of official maps, a VS mode, and more content promised down the road. I've been playing on and off since it entered early access and have hit the max level for almost every perk. If anyone on PC wants to get into it, I'll be glad to show them the ropes.

Idle Thumbs 287: The Fun Cast
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
We had a set of 4 of those pods on campus when I was in college. I probably visited them every day for 3 months straight. I had never really been a big fan of MechWarrior before but man those things were ridiculously fun. The fact that there were so many screens, buttons, switches, toggles, levers, etc. that were all completely functional made it the single most immersive experience I've ever had. It also helped that my favorite Indian food place was right around the corner. -
I got all excited by the idea of mentoring someone in KF, then I realized its KF1 and not KF2.

This is what I'm banking on happening. If he actually attempted to put into practice even a fraction of what he claimed to want to do, I can't imagine it wouldn't lead to impeachment. Presidents have been tried for doing far less. My main hope is that this slap in the face will finally get BOTH parties to get their shit together.

After many many rumors, it appears that Young Justice is coming back for a third season. It got pretty convoluted at times, to the point that there's more than one episode that's almost entirely a plot dump just to straighten everything out, but man did I ever enjoy watching it. I'm always skeptical about a show returning and not living up to my expectations but I've got some high hopes for this.

Idle Thumbs 287: The Fun Cast
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I will send in whatever kind of (in)edible thing is desired if it means we get to see Princess Nick Breckon eat it. -
Continuing my pattern of watching a popular thing well after the discussion has been concluded, I watched all of One Punch Man. I enjoyed it overall. Fairly predictable in many ways but I wasn't expecting anything especially surprising. There's a handful of characters I find fairly off-putting but conversely there are many characters I really liked. I think the thing that amuses me most of all is just the idea that on a (purportedly) action show the actions scenes are probably the least interesting bits, or at least not the parts I look forward to.

I love that laser parkour scene. It's hilariously dumb. It's not a good movie at all but I admit there are (very few) parts I genuinely like. I think I remember reading somewhere that the script was originally going to be its own movie but someone decided to turn it into an Ocean's sequel and butchered it to make it fit.

Idle Thumbs 286: I Can't Do It, Gilgamesh
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
The first episode of Idle Thumbs I ever heard was Episode 3: Field of Dreams, which very quickly made me listen to the previous two and I've been a reader ever since. I was super bummed when the first run ended and spent a lot of time after listening to the existing episodes multiple times. I was extremely excited by the Kickstarter and backed at the highest tier I could without going broke. I think I was turned onto the cast by one of the other podcasts at the now defunct 1UP.com, most likely Retronauts. -
I am so close to being done with night shift at least for the next few months when this starts all over again. Then again each time I said this in the last two weeks a new problem cropped up that forced this blasted outage to keep going.

Waypoint is quickly putting together my gaming editorial dream team. Danielle is definitely a great first round draft pick. -
Idle Thumbs 285: Candor, Expertise, and Candor

I hope Jake realizes he has now sealed his fate and the next candy shipment will contain gross toilet candy. -
Idle Thumbs 284: Live From The Past
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
So about that candy... I swear I'm not trying to troll Nick or anything, at least not consciously. The baby theme is really only because I don't know what to get him. I more or less have a specific request from everyone now except him. So until someone tells me what he really wants he gets baby candy. And I've actually been trying to pick good candy but I've apparently failed miserably. Or succeeded brilliantly. Maybe both. The only reason Steve hasn't yet been a recipient is because he left the cast after I started doing this, which was after the kickstarter. In fact my kickstarter reward is the entire reason this became a thing. My postcard told me that 70% of the money had been spent by Jake on Nerds Ropes, which led to me giving Chris Nerds Ropes at PAX to give to Jake, which he then left in the Double Fine booth, which I replaced via post and also included goodies for Chris and Sean, which then ballooned into the giant box it is today. If Steve requests something I will include him in the next shipment. -
The ending felt very rushed, like they knew it was coming to a close and were scrambling to tie up the loose ends before that happened (which is probably the case). Up until that point the show was good about explaining things with very little sleight of hand, and even then it was mostly believable. What really bums me out is the last couple episodes present a lot of things that I would have loved to see more of in the future such as
-
I finally got around to watching the rest of Person of Interest. Mildly disappointed with the ending, it honestly felt too easy. Still overall it was better than I expected. I kind of wish it had continued on because I find the setup at the end more interesting than the show's original start.
-
Heh, I think the last physical board game I played with anyone was when we played Ticket to Ride at PAX a number of years ago. I used to have Talisman on my phone (it is/was free on Amazon Underground) and I ended up playing it far too long as a number of things eventually combined to annoy the crap out of me. I can see it being better in real life though.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
SecretAsianMan replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
On TNG, I don't think any characters have a significant history with each other prior to the series, with the exception of Picard with Crusher and Riker with Troi. Riker and Geordi had served together but weren't familiar with each other until their service on the Enterprise. Picard has a very brief history with Geordi (he met Geordi once when he was piloting Picard on an inspection; Picard made an off hand remark about something being wrong with the shuttle they were on. Geordi stayed up all night fixing the defect and impressed Picard enough that he knew he wanted him on his next command). The final episode of the series shows that Tasha was piloting the shuttle for Picard when he first arrived on the Enterprise but it was their first meeting. Beyond that, I don't think the characters are really familiar with each other. -
David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event

He is one of the people I would believe can make it work. Moon is like Firewatch in a lot of ways. -

It'll be a director's cut of the movie, like Goldblum mode in Thirty Flights of Loving.
