I also forgot/am at work. All I'm getting out of twitter is basically Kiefer Sutherland = Snake.

I don't watch "live" TV. Any TV I watch is either from the DVR or some kind of streaming. And even then, I usually only watch while making/eating food. I'm probably going to get rid of my cable TV service entirely once I move into my new house. I don't really watch anything I need cable for and I'm paying a fortune for it.

I was also going to suggest The Room. It's a bit short but has some good puzzles that actually make good use of a mobile platform. Also available on Android.

Idle Thumbs 109: Prepare for the Jelly

I can't wait to hear thoughts about The Swapper, especially since I can't play it. -
Nice miffy. What/who are you going to be teaching?

I was reading one of those daily comics websites and I saw this in Calvin and Hobbes Thoughts?

I saw FREE SPACE in the middle, got excited for a second, then realized you probably aren't talking about a new Freespace game, and now I'm sad.

"Why are you ripping up that Bible?" "Because a church sign told me it would fix my life."

I forgot E3 was happening as well. As for the chat, the only one I might be able to make is Sony and I'm frankly just not interested in hearing what they have to say.

I couldn't find another thread for this so I decided to start one. The purpose of this thread is to post cool/interesting/useful software. Not common things like Office or Skype, but stuff that you think people might not know about. Doesn't have to be related to video games. I also include web apps in this category. Please include the following information if you know it: Name Platform(s) Price Website or how to get it Brief description Tips/tricks Also if anyone has a better name for this thread I'm all for it.

That's some dedication Tegan. I love the juxtaposition of the future VR technology we're only now starting to realize, and the huge CRT monitor behind them.

All of Idle Thumbs is behind you too, for what it's worth.

Has there ever been a Humble Bundle that didn't get more games added later? At this point every time I get a bundle, I feel like I'm buying a season pass DLC. I know I'll be getting some additional stuff down the line but I don't know exactly what it is.

Things in games that terrify you irrationally
SecretAsianMan replied to Max Ernst's topic in Video Gaming
Being in water in a game creeps me out too. The sections in Metroid Prime where you're under water made me nervous for no good reason. Also, in Ocarina of Time, the laboratory near the lake has a small tank of water you can get a piece of heart from if you dive down and touch the bottom. At the bottom of the tank is a cage with something in it. The first time I saw that it scared the crap out of me. -
When I used to drive home during college, at a certain point on the highway there was a farm with a large sign near it. The sign was black with huge red letters that said "HELL IS REAL".

I never played it which is why I can laugh about it, but I think creepy Watson would have freaked me out if I actually experienced it first hand Do you mean the arcade version, because that game over screen gave me nightmares as a kid. -
One thing I like about Halo difficulty is the skulls. They add interesting challenges and some of them do genuinely make the game harder, but not in the same way as just making the enemies do more damage or have more health. Plus, popping grunts in the head and hearing "Hooray!" never gets old.

It's a dumb statement to make, but I like it when games have 4 or more difficulty settings. I'll usually play on the one just below the hardest difficulty, as that tends to be my personal Goldilocks point of being just hard enough to challenge me but not so hard that I feel like I'm beating my head against a wall. When there are only 3 choices, I tend to find easy and normal too easy, and hard is too frustrating. I might eventually be able to do it, but it's not fun or enjoyable. I think I recall a similar statement being made on an older episode of the cast, but I forget which one and who said it. My gut says Nick. I'll also agree that making a game "harder" by adjusting numbers like health and damage is shit. That seems like lazy design to me. I much prefer games that make me change how I think about a situation rather than just how I act.

Just saw Star Trek Into Darkness. Thought it was pretty good. I enjoyed it about as much as the first one, maybe a bit more. Lots of little Star Trek nods, and of course a few big ones, It did seem to have multiple points where it could have ended, but I was enjoying it enough that I didn't really want it to. Also, thanks to a Monday off work, I had the theater to myself. Made me feel important, like I was getting a private screening.

Idle Thumbs 108: A Premium Price

My first thought was that BonnieDowling was actually and she was playing mind games with Sean in preparation for a future game. -
Donkey Cock Country must be terrifying to you.

I rooted my phone almost right away and have also had zero problems. One bit of advice with rooting, if you're going to do it, do it right away. You'll lose all data in the process and any apps or other info will have to be downloaded again. Rooting is good if you like a lot of control and are a bit of a power user. But it seems like more and more apps are able to do things without root that you couldn't before, so it seems to be less necessary than it used to be.
