Everything I knew about the game was based on one or two screenshots I had seen. Haven't read any of the early posts in this thread. I thought it was a side scrolling shooter, like Metal Slug. Played it for 5 minutes. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it had space Lords in it.

Mirror's Edge 2. I'm not even fucking joking.

It better have day one Occulus Rift and Omni support. -
I saw something about Xbox Gold Playstation Live Plus and getting free games every month. Also finally doing away with points.

My only source of information is twitter on my phone.

I LOVE Sherlock. It's one of the things I rewatch on a regular basis. I also might have a slight man-crush on Benedict Cumberbatch (how awesome is that name?). He was one of the reasons I wanted to see the latest Star Trek flick, which I enjoyed but felt could have benefitted from more Cumberbatch.

I enjoyed the "Frequently Bought Together" combination of Super Mario World + Donkey Kong Country + Super Mario Kart for the low low price of $1729.92.

Agreed. Compilation threads become very large very quickly and the good/interesting stuff gets lost in the mix. If the game is worth discussing, it should have it's own thread; if not it can simply fade away...

Idle Thumbs 109: Prepare for the Jelly
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I used to play on servers like that too. When it became melee only, the entire strategy changed. It was actually kind of fun because the rarely used melee weapons suddenly became useful and interesting tactics arose that you'd never see otherwise. -

Sean's story of TF2 fight club made me laugh so hard because my friends and I used to do exactly that. We had all sorts of rules such as no spies or medics, or if you win you can choose to keep fighting or go to the back of the line but you don't get to heal. We did dumb things like all soldier battles in the skybox so the only way to do damage is with a direct rocket hit, or American Gladiator style gauntlets. I love playing TF2 but sometimes goofing off is fun. Edit: One of our sky battles -
(genuine surprise) Oh shit, I didn't realize that actually existed. I feel quite the fool.

Haha, an Elcor theatre troop does sound awesome.

I always liked the thing the Elcor do in Mass Effect. They're the race that express their emotional state through subtle body language and scent. When they interact with other species who can't pick up on those things, they prepend all their statements with the emotion they mean to convey.

Double Fine - Kickstarter - MASSIVE CHALICE
SecretAsianMan replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
Man, the idea that some of the kids could in fact reject their family legacy and in essence decide not to go into the "family business" sounds really interesting to me. Or maybe other differences that could impact the game in a larger way. Like if one hero was a great fighter, but his son turns out to be a brilliant strategist, which would probably translate to some kind of buff in game mechanics. -
Idle Thumbs 109: Prepare for the Jelly
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Crouch-jumping in TF2 always seemed really gamey to me. It seems like it would have been just as easy to make the characters able to jump on those things without crouching. I think the narrative idea is that when you crouch-jump, you're pulling your legs up under you in the air and getting that extra bit of height, but from a gameplay point of view it feels unnecessary to me. Crouching in L4D, on the other hand, is a totally useful feature because it gives the people behind you a clear line of fire. -
The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
SecretAsianMan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
I just saw that Interplay grabbed the rights to Freespace for just $7500. That seems criminally low to me. I loved Freespace 2 and I don't even like flight/space combat sim games. I'd like to think this could mean a Freespace 3 at some point, but I seriously doubt it. -

I kind of feel the same way. I hate it when a story makes the protagonist important because of a long lost bloodline or, (to paraphrase Jake) it turns out your parents are the king and queen of space, or some other shit that like. Historically speaking, genetic lines and dynastic houses are very important and maybe that kind of perspective will work it's way into the narrative. But at the same time the first narrative my mind came up with after seeing the pitch involved breeding a superior race, which I have to say creeped me out. I felt like Jake comparing a group in Dragon Age to the Hilter Youth. Sorry for picking on you Jake. -
I know how you feel. I've lost count of the number of posts I never submitted because I convinced myself my thoughts were stupid/obvious/off topic/someone else said 1000 times better than me/whatever. It is nice to have intelligent discussion of interesting topics and poopy jokes in the same forum instead of all one or the other.

Things in games that terrify you irrationally
SecretAsianMan replied to Max Ernst's topic in Video Gaming
Re poison headcrabs: The clicking/hissing/rattling sound they make when they are near is terrifying. Whenever I heard it I would freak out and use every explosive I had until it stopped. -
Idle Thumbs 109: Prepare for the Jelly

I've been doing the exact same thing, to the point that I thought Idle Thumbs already had an episode discussing the game, before remembering that episode 91 was in fact titled "The Clapper". -
RE #1: Maybe she grew up with mommy. Edit: And after a quick wiki search,

The sad thing is, that's really the best reason I can think of. -

But without crouching, we wouldn't be able to teabag. How else am I supposed to show contempt for my vanquished foes? -
Your consoles seems to be spread out all over. When you want to play a game, do you have to go to a specifc room in order to play it? That idea amuses me for some reason.

Games have spoiled me to the point that I never want to JUST watch something. That's why I do other stuff when I watch TV. Even when I am watching something, I end up playing with my phone/laptop/DS/other thing at the same time. I had a roommate in college who smoked, not so much because he liked to smoke but because it gave him something to do with his hands all the time. I used to think that was weird. You have a Blu-Ray with streaming AND a PS3 or your PS3 is your Blu-Ray player?
