The stream was the first time I saw it in action. Looks like fun. I'll probably pick it up over the weekend (yay 4 day weekend!). One thing I can already say is that I love the run animation. That is hilarious.

Don't slow down, go faster! You're still a couple games away from any I can contribute anything meaningful to. But seriously, it's good that you're having fun. I might also do a replay of MI2 (I'm less familiar with it than MI1). Hopefully we can meet up at Fate of Atlantis. But actually, do hurry up.

The greatest headlines in the world (and other weird news stories)

The best thing about the monument is that it's a bench you can sit upon and read the Ten Commandments that also stand in front of the courthouse. -
Idle Thumbs 112: The Cast Of Us
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I think a similar discussion took place for Episode 47: "The Lord of the Donk" or "And That's Who the Lord of the Donk Was". I remember Jake/Chris laughing about using the entire phrase as the episode title. -

Speaking of doubting God exists, there's a monument to Atheism now. -

But I like Cracker Barrel... -
Are you guys giving these hints based purely off of memory? If so, I'm impressed. I'm not sure I'll be able to do the same once Zeus gets to games I've played before. During the Thumbs Lucasarts stream, I was surprised how much I remembered of DOTT and Full Throttle, but seeing it in action helped a lot. And even then there was a bunch of stuff I forgot.

I think that's a really interesting perspective. I didn't quite view it that way because of my familiarity with the source material the game is based on. I suppose that I was looking at it as a modern remake, so in my mind the characters were building upon that base, which probably lessened the impact you were talking about.

That's an interesting choice. I played it a bit myself but never finished it. I'm curious, what about the characterisation did you like so much?
-
I finally did it myself. Ew.

You are more than welcome.

That's fair enough. I would be one of those people who says the raindrop has a story. I wouldn't say it was a good one, but it's still a story. To me, there isn't a lot of difference between a story that happens because a person determined it would happen that way and a story that happens because an electronic brain determined it would happen that way. Maybe one is better than the other but they're still stories to me. And for what its worth, I also tend to view the world from a math/physics standpoint (I'm an engineer), but I also appreciate the creative view.

I would say that a story created by mechanics is in some ways a better story than one that was deliberatly created by a person simply because of the fact that it was spontaneous and not designed. Take any of the numerous Stalker and Far Cry 2 stories told by the podcast crew. Almost all of them involve the game mechanics and not the game's storyline. You can say that those situations are "just things that happen" but then most stories are just things that happen and any emotional response is a result of witnessing those things. There's nothing wrong with being more interested in gameplay mechanics, but to say that they don't create stories seems a bit shortsighted.

I always wonder how much money is generated by people who support causes just to spite the WBC. I have to imagine it's a lot. -
My point in asking was to see what kind of story you were going to tell me, if it was going to be more about the game's mechanics or if it would involve a story from a particular crew. You gave me mostly mechanics but your bit about Doug's fate helps illustrate that sometimes permanent death/failure can create a memorable experience, which for many people is the point. But you seem to be getting that more now so I won't argue it further.

Just in case somebody's wondering how this celebrity stuff started (also I apologize for starting it): Some context Celebrity Look Alike Generator

thestalkinghead, before I respond to your latest comments, let me ask you a question. When you think back on the time you've spent playing FTL, what do you think about? If I had never played the game before and asked you to tell me some neat things about it to try and convince me to play, what would you say to me?
-
I feel guilty sometimes that I'm playing TF2 instead of some other amazing game I probably should be playing, but once I join a game all those thoughts fall away because I'm having too much fun.
-
I've got one if you still want
-
I already said it was my favorite game so it's a bit redundant, but TF2. It's what I play between other games or when I don't feel like doing anything particularly serious and just want to have some pointless fun.

So let's say, hypothetically, you're out eating dinner and you overhear two people talking about video game consoles. Let's call them the Playbox and the XStation. One of these people is telling the other one all about the Playbox and XStation, but they're mixing up a lot of the facts or in some cases are just wrong. You didn't mean to listen in on their conversation but the deed is done and now you can't help but think how they have all the facts wrong. What is the protocol here? Do you just ignore them and hope they'll figure it out? Do you interrupt and make one of them look like a complete fool by correcting everything they've just said? Do you sneak a note to one of them, warning them that what they're hearing is lies? WHAT DO I DO IN THIS SITUATION? ...hypothetically.

This describes every day of my life. I'm constantly worried that someone will discover that I'm not qualified to do my job or find someone better to do it and replace me. Then I talk to people about something and it turns out that I do actually know what I'm doing (for the most part) and not as incompetent as I thought. But it is hard to shake that feeling.
