Some are idioms, some are common phrases, a couple are places, a few are litterally one word. I think one or two may be loosely pop-culture related, but it's probably 90s era pop-culture since that's when the cards were made. If people are having a lot of trouble after a few days, I'll put up some hints, provided I can think of any that don't give away the answers.

I dreamt last night I was playing a Spider-man game. For some reason I was fighting the X-men. After beating up Cyclops (who looked like James Marsden but was wearing the 90s X-men animated series uniform), I saved the game and turned off the Xbox. Then I woke up. Its like my brain knew it was going to wake me up so it saved first. Maybe that means I'll have another dream later and continue that save.

I messed around with some mods this past weekend. When you start Torchlight with mods, the game uses a separate folder to save data so your non-modded saves won't be available. There's a separate lobby for modded games and you can filter by what mods are being run. In order to join a game, you need to have exactly the same mods as everyone else. Luckily, Runic has a handy "download and install" button to help with this. If you want to join a game but don't have the mods, you can hit that button and the game will go find them and install them and restart the game so you can play. It uses Steamworks for this, so if the mod isn't available from the Steam community page you'll have to get it yourself. It's still kind of a pain to find a specific game and join it, but the fact that the game will find and install the necessary mods for you is pretty cool.

Mysterious purpose revealed! End of shameless self promotion

Fish put up this post on Polytron's site: Looking through the comments that follow, the VAST majority of them appear to be a lot of hate against Fish. My personal favorite: I don't know if they're all genuine gamer rage but I like to think that guy is serious.

Some of them are really obscure phrases. I'll be surprised if anyone gets them all exactly. I should also probably point out that these are scans of existing, physical cards that were probably made in the 80s. I'm wondering if I should make a new thread for it.

So I have some games to give away, but I'm going to do it a little differently. Cause I'm a weird guy, back in college I used to do a contest like thing where I'd give my friends prizes. Most of the contest were trying to figure out what an image meant or was. Just before start of the Steam Summer Sale, I found the folder on my backup drive that had some of these. I decided I wanted to do it again and grabbed a few games during the sale as prizes. The games are: Rogue Legacy Kerbal Space Program The Walking Dead Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Crusader Kings II Strike Suit Zero Mega Bundle Here are the rules: Each card represents a word or phrase. Some of them are old and out of date by this time. If you're not sure of one, try to explain your answer as best you can and if I think you're close I'll give it to you. The first person to correctly figure out all the cards wins the game of their choice. The next person to give me the correct answers can pick from the games remaining, etc. until everything is gone. If at the end of 2 weeks (Aug 10) no one gets them all, then whoever has the most will win. In the event of a tie whoever gets me the answers first wins. Answers should be sent to me via PM. DO NOT POST ANY ANSWERS IN THE THREAD. I'll reveal the answers after the 2 weeks is up or all the games are gone. Each person gets 2 entries. If the first entry is not completely correct, I'll tell you which ones you missed and you get another chance. If you don't actually want any of the games but want to answer anyway, that's fine. Just let me know when you submit your answers. Games will be gifted via Steam Since it's my giveaway, I reserve the right to change anything I feel like at any time I want (but that probably won't happen) Have fun! Hopefully you guys will enjoy this. If it goes well I may do it again later (probably after the Steam Holiday Sale). You can get the cards here: Cards.zip

So this game is no more. I'm not entirely sure what happened but it kind of sounds like Phil Fish basically rage quit.

We should organize a game. Anyone free this weekend? -
I took about 150 or so generations the first time I beat it. Subsequent NG+ games took less each time until I maxed everything, at which point it took a lot more because you stop improving but the monsters get stronger. After I erased the save and started over, it took 80 generations for me to beat it again the first time.

All I could think about while hearing Nick voice the characters was .

That song has now been stuck in my head for several hours and it's driving me crazy.

The one I ended up beating wasn't even the knife throwing one. It was the axe throwing one, and I got it because I discovered you can throw axes before you enter the room and it won't count against you but still they destroy targets. I'm sure this is cheating but I was frustrated enough I didn't care at that point. I should make it clear that I really enjoyed the game overall, it was just this one thing that bothered me.

I finally got the last achievement last night. I got all the way to NG+5 before I decided to erase the save and start over. I then beat it up to NG+3 again. At this point I've maxed the upgrades and equipment twice and can clear the entire map with several different classes. Despite all that, it took me this long to beat that stupid carnival game. Apparently I'm good enough to defeat an entire castle/forest/attic/dungeon full of monsters but I can't hit targets worth a damn.

I normally like dumb achievements as well, but that in one particular did not provide the effort to amusement ratio I would have liked. On the other hand, I really liked the achievement in Episode One for using exactly one bullet. I wouldn't have thought to try it if that achievement didn't exist and it ended up being a really satisfying playthough.

Watching the streams live is resulting in me showing up at work tired and groggy. I know I can watch them later but the chat is half the fun. Or maybe a third the fun. Some part of the fun. I can't do math when I'm tired.

Have you ever tried getting the Half-Life 2: Episode 2 achievement for launching the gnome into space? That was one of the most arduous things I've ever done. I saved constantly because the gnome kept getting blasted, dropped, rammed, thrown, hit, punted, tossed, exploded, and just generally launched into bottomless pits and other unreachable places. And he won't stay in the car at all, so driving with him turns you into the stereotypical little old lady who only goes 5 mph because go any faster and you just flung that guy into oblivion. At times I wondered if it would have been faster to just fire him ahead with the gravity gun, get in the car and find him, and repeat. It's probably not actually as bad as I remember but it was still a pain in the ass.

Dreamt last night that I was watching a hockey game. That alone made it unusual since I don't watch hockey, but what really made it strange was that some sort of cheat code had been put in and big head mode was turned on. All the players had huge heads and tiny bodies, like they were bobbleheads. In a game it's kind of amusing but it was freaky in my dream since they were real people.
-
I haven't tried any myself, but I'm pretty sure that everyone has to have the same mods running to play together. I think there's a separate lobby for modded games.

Earth and the Moon as viewed from Saturn and Mercury. Just in case you needed more proof that we are insignificant specks.

You got some Steam ore? Man, what can you craft with that?

Heck yeah! Let's get the band back together! And maybe add some more people. And hopefully I'll die less. But not likely. -
With the Vitality Sensor, you can have both!

I voted for Kentucky Route Zero but the community picked Dragon's Lair.

I loved Samurai Jack. I thought there were some very clever homages. Plus, I'm a sucker for things with an amor fati theme. Also the late, great Mako does some of the best voice over work. I'm quite a fan of Genndy Tartakovsky in general. His Clone Wars cartoon was what I actually wanted to see in the movies RE Duck Dodgers: This is one of my favorite things ever. "Wake up. You are lazy and worthless"
