  1. Games giveaway

A few more hints: One is related to American road signs. One of the answers is listed here Another is listed here Thus far I have 1 entry with 32/48.
  2. Saturday Morning Streams

I just got my first tablet and I've spent the last couple days playing solitaire while watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. So basically, I've returned to the late 80s/early 90s and I brought futuristic device with me.
  3. Games giveaway

So it's the halfway point and I haven't received any entries yet*. I don't know if it's because people have lost interest or they're too hard. I hope it's not the former, but in the case of the latter I have some hints to try and help. 6 of them are one word answers Approximately 21 are two word answers. I say approximately because of how the answer may be phrased The rest are multi-word answers 2 are geographic locations. One is in the US and the other is not. The US one is a battlefield. One is a reference to American football The position of the images are important, so words like "over", "under", "outside", "below", etc. show up frequently. Hopefully those help at least a little. I tried to identify the ones that are specific to the US to help anyone outside the country figure those out. I'll try to come up with more hints later. Don't forget you get 2 entries and I'll tell you which ones are wrong. *Except for Rodi but his doesn't count
  4. Torchlight II

There are some pretty cool class mods out there I'd love to try with other people. I'll be on this weekend if anyone wants to play. As usual, I'll be hanging out in the Steam group chat.
  5. Cool and Inspiring Lectures/Videos

  6. Idle Thumbs 117: Sir! Sir!

I did the exact same thing. Also Jake's discussion about how Sir, You Are Being Hunted was actually Dyson's penance for creating Skynet reminded me of an idea I once had for a short story about a man who travels back in time to kill himself in order to prevent the robot apocalypse.
  7. Cool and Inspiring Lectures/Videos

I love Randy Pausch's Last Lecture. I actually went to Carnegie Mellon, but sadly I had already graduated when he gave his last lecture there and didn't get to see it. CMU named a pedestrian bridge on campus after him. The bridge links the new computer science building and the center for the arts building as a symbolic tribute to the way he helped link the two disciplines. He even had a small role in the Star Trek reboot. He's the guy in the beginning who says "Captain, we have visual". He donated the check for that role to charity. He was a really inspiring guy.
  8. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I'd also recommend trying the other paths as well. I think sticking to the team path for the first playthough is a good idea, but at least play a little of the others. You should be able to save just before you have to commit to a path.
  9. Games giveaway

That is a good point. One thing I was worried about was that some of these may be strictly American phrases and thus harder for the non-US people, but I don't know how to solve that. I think what I plan for the next one may be less biased in that way.
  10. Idle Thumbs 117: Sir! Sir!

I totally sympathize with Jake and his mental fixation with Miles Dyson's last breaths. Normally when people die in a movie they just sort of fall over or gently close their eyes or something, but Dyson is literally struggling for each breath. Watching him gasp out the last few moments of his life really stuck with me. I felt pretty terrible that he had to go. I didn't create the same mental link to Sam Jackson's arm though. I tried to find a Youtube video of the scene but every video is just making fun of his breathing and ruins the mood.
  11. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I will certainly join you now that you've caught up to stuff I know. I will warn you about one thing. It's not a story or puzzle spoiler. There is a point early on in Fate of Atlantis where you can choose between 3 different types of play style. The paths are called Wits, Fists, and Team. Wits is more about solving puzzles, Fists has more fights in it (similar to Last Crusade but I think they improved the combat system somewhat), and Team gives you a sidekick. Details and solutions to puzzles will be different depending on which path you pick, but the main storyline is the same. Personally, I like to play the Team path because I think it feels more Indiana Jonesy if I have a partner. You can pick which ever path you think you'd enjoy more (although I suggest avoiding the Fists path because ugh, fighting) but know that your details may be different.
  12. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

Personally what I don't like is that petition to ban the guy from entering the US. I don't like what he has to say either, but is that a basis to ban him from entering the country? Doesn't tolerance have to go both ways? Besides I'm not sure what good it would do.
  13. Torchlight II

I'm up for either of those. I wouldn't mind giving some mods a try with other people. Some of the classes people have created are interesting.
  14. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

Saw this via a RT by Jake Russian lawmaker: We will arrest gay athletes, tourists at Olympic Games
  15. Star Wars Video Games - A New Hope

    Star Wars: Oops All Jedi
  16. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

I am of such a mixed mind about this game. I did enjoy playing it (though I never beat it), but I was also slightly uncomfortable at the same time. At first I was excited to play a game based on Chinese mythology because so few games are. I liked the setting and characters, but something was off when I was playing it. I later realized it was because of the source material. Journey to the West holds a special place in my memory because as a child my father once told me the story when I was very sick. I won't say the game does any injustice to the original tale, but for me it was different enough that it clashed with my memories and took a lot of the fun out of it. I'd like to give the game a fair chance, but that memory is so important to me that I don't want to do anything to disturb it.
  17. Games giveaway

While I was amused by your answers, I'm afraid I'll have to reply with a classic Billy Madison quote: I don't actually mean any of that, except for the part about awarding you no points.
  18. Games giveaway

I'm glad people are having fun with this. To be honest, my biggest concerns were 1) Are people going to think this is stupid and weird and why is this guy doing this dumb thing? 2) What games should I get that people will want but don't already have without spending a ton of money? For #1, I'm always paranoid whenever I post/say things on the internet. You wouldn't believe the number of drafts even a simple post goes through before I submit it and even then I'm afraid I've just made an idiot of myself. For #2, I mostly stuck to things played by/made by the Thumbs because I figured there would be the most interest there. In the case of Strike Suit Zero, it was just cheap. Crusader Kings I actually got after the Summer Sale. I almost got Surgeon Simulator as well but by that point I had already spent a fair amount of money that I am essentially giving away so I hope you all understand. I also welcome any feedback anyone has about this. I've never done this with such a large group before. Like I said, I've previously done this with some friends of mine, but only about 6 and they were all near my age and in the US. I do plan on doing this again after the Steam Holiday Sale (though not with these types of puzzles beacuse I don't have any more) and any way to improve the experience would be useful. Finally, I'm curious what games everyone wants. I suspect Rogue Legacy the most since it's relatively new and the rest are probably already owned if you really wanted them. I might be willing to make a substitution if no one wants a certain game. Unless I choose poorly and no one wants any of them and you all just like puzzles. I really should have made a new thread for this...
  19. Games giveaway

I've only had one submission so far from Rodi and I'm reasonably sure he was kidding...
  20. Steam Trading Card

So when I craft a badge, there's a chance that it will cause a booster pack to drop for someone else? Sounds like a progressive slot machine, each time I make a badge it increases the pot for everyone until someone gets a jackpot (in this case a drop of some kind).
  21. Fez 2

I'm pretty sure most of us around here would self-identify as "gamers" but we have to make the distinction between identify and define. It might be a semantic argument, but since the issue is the label we apply to ourselves I think the semantics matter. I'm sure a lot of us have other passions besides gaming but none of those things alone define who we are. I think the harm comes when we do allow any of those labels to define us. I'm wondering all these topics should become new threads because we're not talking about Fez anymore and I think they're worth discussing.
  22. Star Wars Video Games - A New Hope

Screw the Jedi, I want another Republic Commando game.
  23. Star Wars Video Games - A New Hope

Man it's like a Star Wars mad libs.
  24. Fez 2

Man that article managed to make me happy and then sad very quickly. I thought Patrick had some good thoughts, especially the line SgtWhistlebotom outlined above (I'm also glad he recognized the Futurama quote and the irony of the Andy Kaufman avatar). Then I read a few of the comments and several of them are insults toward Klepek for writing about himself at the end of the article ("Nice article about yourself, Patrick. Could you write one about Phil now?"). While nowhere near as bad as the comments over at Polytron's site, it still bothered me a lot. I think his personal situation is extremely relevant, because at this point the story isn't really about Fish anymore. He was the catalyst, but it's grown beyond just him and now it's about how the internet and developers respond to each other, how people who make a product whose primary function is to make your life a little better, and how they incur the wrath of their customers. I'm not going to bother defending Fish because that's already been done here with better words than I can muster. Fish's case isn't the first and certainly won't be the last, but the whole thing just bums me out.
