Isn't Mulder's sister named Samantha? Sam is really Sam Mulder. Which I guess makes Lonnie Scully.

I'm comfortable with the level of "gaminess" in Gone Home. I don't think the Fullbright group was out to completely change the idea of games as we know it, but there are definitely steps toward changing how they can be made and played. If the whole game didn't have ANY of the sort of things we'd expect from a video game, then I think it would be a little off putting. To sort of expand on what Argobot was saying, imagine you found all the journals up front, as a real life person might do in a similar situation. Then you wouldn't get the slow unfolding of a very personal story, the gradual discovery of how this person was feeling, what she was experiencing, and why it motivated her to do what she did. If everything had been given to you all at once, it would have been a very different story, or at the very least a very different experience. As an aside to this, I went though the game a second time with the "all lights on" and "all doors unlocked" modifiers and it was indeed a very different experience. Even though I knew the bulk of the story, I found a few more journals I didn't my first time. Naturally, they were out of order so I had to integrate them into my knowledge of Sam in a different way than I did when it was linear.

Idle Thumbs 119: You, Fisher

I always associate Keith David with Goliath from Gargoyles. Hearing him in stuff like Saints Row is like Patrick Stewart being on American Dad. -
I'll be there all 4 days. I would love to do some tabletop stuff, although I'm terrible at handling wein.

I've found at least 2 Thumbs references. There are probably more but I've only been through the house once. Also this exists: Gone Home Wiki

I got the same impression.

I remember the first time I played this game getting very frustrated in Crete. I knew that the transit had to be used on the bull head and tail and that I had to get line of sight with the horns, but it took me such a long time to finally click the exact right spot I needed to for Indy to draw the lines. He just kept telling me he saw stuff. At one point he said he saw a door that I didn't see, which I thought meant that I had uncovered a hidden door. Nope. Also, I like that when you look at Sophia through the transit, she waves.

Man, this game really drew me in, and in a totally unexpected way. I purposely avoided almost everything related to the game before playing it so I had almost no idea what to expect going in, and I'm glad I did. I started off straightening things out. I was turning off lights and closing cabinets and doors behind me as though I were in an actual house leaving a room. But as I discovered more about the story, I stopped doing those things because I had to know what happened next. By the end, I was racing through the house to get the next note. While I don't personally identify with many aspects Sam's story, I still really loved it because of how genuine it felt. Random other thoughts: Despite how much I love the story, I think my favorite note might be Sam's health class homework. That was great. The dad's books remind me of a crappy short story I tried to write when I was younger. I love that you can put most stuff back right where you found it. I hate just dropping things on the ground in most games. Feels like I'm making a mess. I like that there's an explanation why the lights flicker. Details like this make me happy. I like to think that Sam arranged the placement of the journals so they would be found in a specific order. Like she walked through the house and thought "Ok, the first one goes here and the next one goes here..." I got 3 trading card drops and they were all the same (Calavera de la Dia) Definitely a GOTY*. *The G stands for Ghost

I actually know nothing about Catherine apart from wacky block pushing in your underwear bits. So my statement was half in jest, half an actual question.

I was checking out the IGN review to see if they were blown away (they were, but didn't use the words) and I was amused to see this I haven't played either one yet, but Catherine? (Also shown: To the Moon and Thomas was Alone)

One of my friends growing up was Mormon. While he never took personal offense at my saying "God" and "Jesus", I knew it made him uncomfortable so I eventually started saying stuff like "Jebus" instead and it's just sort of stuck. Also, the Messiah name story reminds me of a Seinfeld joke about how naming your kid Jeeves means he's destined to become a butler.

I dreamt last night that I was playing video games with various gaming personalities, including Famous Vanaman. I don't remember most of the games but the last one was some sort of Warioware Mario Kart game that was amazing. I haven't had that much fun in a dream in a long time.

I've completed all the original levels and now I'm in a new section. I get having enemies from different areas show up, but ghosts in a volcano? At least all the other areas had enemies that were somewhat related to the level. But then again I'm a rich old duck bouncing around on a cane so what do I know.

If you liked flying the balloon, you'll love a later part of the game.

On the way home, I was passed by a DeLorean. It had to be going at least 88 MPH.

I just beat the African Mines and Himalayas. I spent 5 minutes in the main menu dancing around to the music. I'm over my initial dislike of the art style and actually find some of the character animations to be pretty good. I kind of wish it had a retro mode like Monkey Island Special Edition did though. You can totally swim in the money vault, which I do after every level. I'm way worse at this game than I remember being. Overall, it seems to be some fun nostalgia, but I don't see myself playing it more than once, maybe twice so I can get some more of the art.

I have a hard time with remembering characters. I'm a visual person, so if I can't see a face its difficult for me to remember what they did or who they are. For that reason alone, movies are easier for me to get through. But if I read a book that's had a movie version made or watch a series based on a book, then the books are much easier for me to follow.

When I went through Monte Carlo about a week ago, I remembered I did the ghost thing the first time I played it, so I was all ready to do it again. But I ended up using Madame Sophia to predict terrible misfortune for him and he left me the stone as thanks. I had never done it that way before.

A little while ago I was heating something in my toaster oven. I set the dial to 30 minutes. After about 10 minutes, I thought "Man, this is taking forever". I then went to the oven and set the timer to 5 minutes before I realized this wouldn't actually speed up the cooking time. Also, earlier this week I was listening to some voicemails on my work phone and reading a few emails at the same time. I wanted the voicemails to go faster, so I tried clicking the mouse on my emails thinking that would speed up the dialog in the same manner as a video game. I'm starting to question my perception of reality.

I like those faceplates and want them to be real.
