  1. PAX Prime 2013

PAX is winding down now (I'm sitting in the PC freeplay area at the moment). Thanks to everyone who came to my horribly organized meetup. If I try to organize one again next year, I'll probably reserve some space. Special thanks to Argobot, Squid Division, and Dualhammers for putting up with me and Chris for being around. It was a good time as always. Now back to my regular life. Sigh.
  2. Nintendo 3DS

As another aside to my above comment, I've also found that the gardening game (I can never remember what it's called) seems better with a smaller group because the flower only has a certain number of seeds and you can't change flowers in the middle of a group. Also, that guy keeps saying the same thing over and over. I really wish I could just skip all his dialog. I got my hands on a 2DS. I still think it looks dumb, but I will admit holding it was pretty nice. The placement of the L and R buttons feels better to me because my hands are a little too big to comfortably hold even the XL. The screens are tiny but they look pretty good. I still have no interest whatsoever in the thing and I'm obviously not the market for it, but it seems less stupid now that I've held it.

I'm finding that it also seems to depend on how many passes you can get at once. Find Mii and Mii Force are best played with a group of 10 while the rest are pretty much the same no matter how many you have.
  4. Nintendo 3DS

As expected, I'm doing a ton of Streetpassing at PAX, about 200+ a day. I could probably get more if I stopped more often. I'm finding the 10 pass limit isn't what's bothering as much as how long it takes to clean out the queue, especially with the new games. I've stopped playing Mii Force and the flower game altogether because they take too long. I thought I would like Warriors Way the least but I'm actually enjoying it more just because of how quick it is.
  5. Nintendo 3DS

I saw one behind a glass display case. I think it looks ugly and uncomfortable, but I am also not the target audience for it so whatever.
  6. PAX Prime 2013

Apologies to anyone who missed the meet up and for the compete lack of organization. I was not expecting 20+ people to show up so I failed to reserve anything. I will try to be in the same spot tomorrow at 7, but I want to go to the Giant Bomb panel so I'm leaving at exactly 7. If anyone wants to meet there or after we can try that too. I'll be the Asian guy in a red shirt with a red backpack.
  7. PAX Prime 2013

I'm @secretasianmanz. G+ is a good idea, but I think any form of Internet communication will be unreliable at best.
  8. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Gee, I didn't expect any of that. I was just making a dumb joke.
  9. PAX Prime 2013

I'm heading to the airport now, see you guys Friday. Also, Chris, if you see this you should totally come hang out with us.
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

Even more specifically, the mic was only on controller 2 and not controller 1. So if you wanted to yell at that Zelda enemy, you had to use the other controller instead of just raising the one you were holding in your hand.
  11. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

    I am reminded of this
  12. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Cool, I didn't know that. He's still sleeping for me though. Is the HRA Showcase thing only populated by Streetpass, or does it go through the internet too? I was looking at it last night and there's one in there, even though I haven't Streetpassed with anyone yet. Also, I dig the little songs Kapp'n sings while taking me to the island, but I felt guilty for telling him to hurry up because Re-Tail was closing soon and I had to sell my crap.
  13. Movie/TV recommendations

I don't actually like most of Mel Brook's movies as a whole, but I do like a great number of the comedic moments that occur in said movies, so my feeling overall is a positive one. For that reason alone, Blazing Saddles is my favorite because it has my favorite moment in it, specifically when Gene Wilder is telling his story about how he used to be the Waco Kid ("Little bastard shot me in the ass!").
  14. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I think I'm finally starting to get into the meat of the game. My approval rating finally hit 100% (about time jerks) and today I'll be able to do my first public works project (a much needed bridge). I've activated the Streetpass function and gotten the second expansion on my house. I've also gained access to the island and I'm starting to get new townsfolk. Unfortuantely with PAX coming up, I don't think I'll be able to check in for a bit. Hopefully my town can withstand a few days of neglect.
  15. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I love the idea of exploring a space in great detail. It's one of the many reasons I was excited to play Gone Home. It's even better that most things aren't explicitly spelled out. Piecing together a story from bits and clues is more satisfying to me than just seeing it happen. Also on the topic of exploring a contained space, Gone Home makes me want to play Last Express, which I have yet to do despite the many accolades given to it by the Thumbs.
  16. Steam Trading Card

I got my first booster pack drop today. I unpacked it and what did I get... but 3 TF2 engineer cards, giving me a total of 4 engineer cards.
  17. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Just found him and activated Streetpass. So I should be good to go for this weekend.
  18. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

At what point do you unlock streetpass functionality? Is it time dependent? Or do I have to meet some other criteria? I'd like to get there before PAX, which means I have about 3 more days.
  19. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

I spent the past 2 weekends trying to get my desktop working again. After scrapping my RAID (for the 2nd time), I finally managed to get Windows 7 installed on it. It seems to work, except for the part where the graphics drivers keep screwing up and I can't see what I'm doing because the screen went black, then after a clean reinstall blue, then after another reinstall froze...
  20. Plants vs Zombies 2: It's About Time

Isn't there a way to turn off in-app purchases in iOS? Would that hid the annoying bullshit and make the game at least somewhat better to play? I have Android, which I know can guard that stuff with a PIN but I don't think it hides it completely.
  21. Nintendo 3DS

So can I not buy the new Streetpass games without streetpassing at least once? I wanted to get them before I went to PAX because once I'm in Seattle, internet access will be destroyed by the 10,000+ nerds trying to use it simultaneously.
  22. Plants vs Zombies 2: It's About Time

What I find absurd about a lot of freemium mobile games is the idea that $4.99 is too much to pay for a mobile game, but you have the option to spend $100 in in-game purchases. And even THAT isn't enough to unlock everything.
  23. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

It's also because it involves the whip, something you've been carrying since the beginning. It's easy to overlook items you've had forever in favor of new items or thinking you haven't found it yet. The first time I played FoA, I tried using the whip on everything in the beginning, but as the game progressed I kept forgetting I had it.

  25. PAX Prime 2013

It seems like Friday evening is a good time based on what I see here. The expo hall closes at 6. I say we meet up near the top of the main escalators at 7 that way we have some time to eat and hopefully a lot of people will have cleared out by then. I'll be wearing a red backpack and probably my Idle Thumbs shirt.
