  1. Life

Tonight I had my first home cooked meal in my new house. I used my new gas stove for the first time and ate it in front of the TV while sitting on a lawn chair and using TV trays because I don't have a dining table. It was really classy.
  2. Pokémon X and Y

Random thing: Wolfram Alpha now includes a basic Pokedex
  3. Nintendo 3DS

The 2DS is surprisingly nice to hold. I felt like it fit into my hands better. I just wish it didn't look that way. Also having used only a 3DS XL, the 2DS screens seemed so tiny.
  4. What games would you make using the "perfect" Kinect?

Oh man, apparently if you preordered it came with cardboard Super Saiyan Goku hair.
  5. I Had A Random Thought...

The one thing that drives me nuts with stuff like that is when I have a question about something and come across an old forum post of someone else asking the same question, only to have the question be completely unanswered because the forum is dead. Or even worse, someone says they have an answer but never posted it and my 8 year old question remains unanswered.
  6. What games would you make using the "perfect" Kinect?

My other (more?) dorky anime idea was a Naruto game where every move must be preceded by the correct hand signs. But yeah, any anime with ridiculous poses would work. Alternate non-anime idea: A Matrix video game that's nothing except dodging bullets. It will be called The Matrix: Oops All Bullet Time.
  7. Life

There was a time in my life I actually considered going to one of those.
  8. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I took Bogost's use of "young adult" as meaning that Gone Home was written with a style similar to books/shows aimed towards young adults, thus giving the game an overall young adult feel. In that sense it's somewhat fitting since the journals are written from a young adult's perspective, but to say that it dictates the overall tone and feel of the game feels restrictive and incomplete.
  9. What games would you make using the "perfect" Kinect?

This is the dumbest thing to say but I want to see a DBZ game. Not so that I can play it, but so that I can watch other people play it. I want to see people kamehameha their TVs, hold their arms up in the air for 5 minutes gathering energy for a spirit bomb, squat down as they power up, etc. Most of all, I want to see the co-op mode that includes the fusion dance with the same strict requirements (ie failing to fully extend your finger results in a really fat fusion).
  10. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I agree with the idea that Gone Home isn't (and shouldn't be) the height of this kind of game/story telling/anything. But his questioning of how players could be so easily satisfied doesn't sit right with me. Is it wrong to have a personal connection or emotional response to a "simple" story? Why is that so hard to picture? Complex does not automatically mean good. I feel like any level of pretentiousness applied to Gone Home was done by the public and not the game itself. I understand what he was saying in his comments about Bioshock, I just felt that he didn't need to pick it apart in a piece about Gone Home. A much simpler statement would have sufficed and been less distracting. The same could probably be said of many of the other comparisons made.
  11. Chain-reactions, cascading disasters

    Exactly.
  12. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

That's how I felt about the piece too. I also got some of that from his tangent on why Bioshock was overrated, which seemed like an unnecessary thing to talk about.
  13. Chain-reactions, cascading disasters

My spidey sense is tingling. Also I work in a nuclear power plant, not a nuclear weapons plant. I'm kind of surprised someone remembers that, but now that I think about it, I do mention it a lot. I should probably stop that. As for the topic, all I can say is and , plus except when unless of course you . I think that should about cover it.
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

On the way home this morning I drove by a sign that said "Got Far Wood". I think he means "I have fire wood".
  15. Life

I suppose that it's a possibility, albeit a very remote one. What actually happened was he turned off the power to that section of the neighborhood without warning anyone and several irate neighbors came out wondering what happened to their power. Fortunately they got the new box in quickly so the outage was short. I probably would have been annoyed too if it weren't for the fact that it would help fix my electrical problem. Apparently everyone else's power worked just fine, the only one having an issue was me. Guess I'm just lucky that way.
  16. Pokémon X and Y

I don't think I'm being hit with Encore, I don't remember ever seeing that. Only one of my Pokemon has Rage (I think, I'll have to check that) and it's happened to ones that don't have that move at all. It only seems to occur when I use the L button to look at the moves (because I'm still learning them and I keep forgetting what they do) and it doesn't happen every time. It's really weird and kind of annoying.
  17. Pokémon X and Y

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is there something that makes Pokemon automatically pick a move? Every now and then my Pokemon will just repeat the last move before I tell it to do anything. All my Pokemon are below 15 and I have 1 badge so I don't think they're disobeying me. I'm not getting hit with any kind of status effect I know of that would cause this (so far I've only been hit with paralysis) and it sometimes happens when I have no status at all. It's occasionally prevented me from catching a new Pokemon. I don't know if it's the game, my 3DS, or my memory card. I had some trouble downloading it so maybe something happened. It also froze once already so perhaps it's just a weird bug?
  18. I Had A Random Thought...

I can understand someone casually making the mistake that a Chinese person with 2 large bags walking out of an international airport isn't native to the US. I don't especially like the idea of that being an automatic assumption, but I can forgive it. If that was all he said to me, I would been annoyed but I would have let it slide. But combine that with the fact that he was clearly just being a dick means that he didn't give a shit about courtesy so I didn't either. I don't know if that counts as casual racism but it sure pissed me off, especially considering I had just come from a 14+ hour flight. I'm kind of getting annoyed just remembering it.
  19. I Had A Random Thought...

I have a shitty tipping story too. A few years ago I was coming back from a visit to China and I had a layover in Chicago. I got a hotel room for the night away from the airport and I got a cab to take me to the hotel. When I got there, the driver told me, in a very thick foreign accent, "In the US we tip". He was rude the entire ride and didn't get out of the cab to help with the luggage. He didn't even pop the trunk until I asked and he was annoyed to do so. I may be of Chinese decent, but I was born in the US. I've lived here my entire life. I have what is probably best described as an American Midwest accent. The fact that the driver was clearly from another country didn't bother me. The fact that he was a jackass did bother me. I was going to tip him, but that last comment really pissed me off and after I got my bags, I paid the fare and I told him "In the US we DO tip, but not to assholes" and went into the hotel. He yelled something at me and drove off. As I was checking in, one of the bellhops who overheard the whole thing told me it wasn't the first time he'd seen that guy be rude and he was glad I told him off. That bellhop got a huge tip.
  20. Life

Finally have some good news about my house. Turns out a few weeks ago, before I even finished closing, one of the construction guys building the house next door knocked over a distribution box in the front yard. They just set it back upright and never bothered to report it to the power company. The electricians came over today, couldn't figure out what was going on in the breaker panel, and called the power company because the incoming power was inconsistant. When the tech opened up the box, one of the cables to my house was completely loose and was in fact rubbing up against the side of the box. They replaced the distribution box but the breakers were still being weird. Apparently because of all this the water heater got messed up and was actually backfeeding into the grid, which meant that it was creating a circuit with the rest of the breakers so any time I flipped the water heater breaker, I'd shut off everything. They're going to come replace the water heater tomorrow, hopefully. Basically, the good news is I have stable electricity. The bad news is I still have no hot water. But it's better than it was a few days ago.
  21. Pokémon X and Y

You must stop now and forever remain Baron Baron.
  22. Pokémon X and Y

Well crap, now you tell me.
  23. Pokémon X and Y

This is the first Pokemon game I've ever played. I know pretty much nothing about the series apart from some general knowledge and having seen a few random anime episodes and 2 of the films with a younger cousin of mine. I picked a Chespin to start (and promptly named it Teg since she was the one who talked me into getting the game and did her best to prep me). I also got the free Torchic and a Squirtle just to round things out. I only have one badge because the game froze midway though my first fight with the gym leader and I lost a good chunk of progress. I admit at first I wasn't really into it, probably because in general I dislike turn based strategy. But the more I play the more fun it's becoming. There's so much information to know and a lot of it is still a mystery to me, but discovering it is turning out to be a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. There's lots of weird quirks, which is a thing I love. I'm starting to see the appeal this series has. I doubt I'll ever get into the competitive scene though.
  24. Idle Thanksgiving

We never have turkey. I would say we have duck instead but that's not true either. It's really just a big version of a normal meal.
  25. Idle Thanksgiving

That is every Thanksgiving for me.
