Congrats Chris on beating Spelunky!

It's similar to when Phil Hartman died (I miss Troy and Lionel). Still, the actors are getting older so that kind of thing may not be too far off.

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Idle Thumbs 129: A Reminder
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah, I'm sure the final edited version would be different. Still, I'd love to be able to see it. Maybe one of the Thumbs can just secretly turn on the webcam before they start recording and stealth stream to Twitch without telling the rest so we don't interfere with a normal podcast discourse. Then at the end they reveal there's been a live audience the whole time. -
Burger Time For a more serious but also less serious answer, maybe one of those tycoon type games where you have to manage a food or lemonade stand?

Idle Thumbs 129: A Reminder
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Chris being silent created a very unusual mental image of the recording for me. Once I realized that he wasn't going to talk, I imagined him sitting there with a stoic look on his face trying to react as little as possible to Jake and Nick. But then when Nick said that Chris was going to die laughing, he suddenly turned into a crazy madman who had to be restrained Hannibal Lecter style and was only allowed to speak when Nick "unlocked" him. I've often wished to see video of the podcast being recorded, but I think I want this one more than most. As for repeating topics, I think part of the concern is that podcasts are mostly one way communication. Because they don't have readers there live to either tell them to shut up and move on or spur them to keep talking about the thing they think is dumb, they choose to err on the side of caution and try to limit the repetition. I think what I'm getting at with both of these is I want to see a Twitch stream of a podcast being recorded. -
Boo, it doesn't function in my work browser. So much for playing it all night.

No story spoilers here

I will admit to jumping a bit when a certain bulb burned out. You know the one I mean.

Idle Thumbs 129: A Reminder
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I suppose in the case of a narrative based game, a lot of the interest would be lost after watching an LP. The ones I watch are groups of people not individuals so they only do multiplayer stuff. In those cases they're an excellent advertisement of how much fun the game is. One of the exceptions to that is when game creators play their own game and talk about the creation process or weird little things they put in the game or other things of that nature. It's like a live developer commentary and I love those. -
Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)
SecretAsianMan replied to Irishjohn's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I have to say reading through these is a lot like listening to the Prince describe his adventure in Sands of Time. No wait, that's not how it happened. Let me try that again. No no no, that's not how it happened No wait, that's not how it happened. -
Idle Thumbs 129: A Reminder

The Let's Plays that I follow I only watch because they're full of dumb people who are amusing and entertaining. They don't try to do any kind of critical analysis of the game. Really it's just people who like playing games having a good time and they happen to record it for their channel. A lot of them aren't even any good at the games they're playing, which makes it simultaneously hilarious and infuriating. Those are the Let's Plays that make me want to buy a given game more than any commercial because the entire thing is saying "look how much fun this game is". But yeah, most of them are dumb and boring. -
I know nothing about this game but the name intrigues me.

That's what he/she said! (Is that inappropriate? I'm so confused)

Idle Thumbs 129: A Reminder
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Not finished yet, but this may be my new favorite episode. I especially loved hearing Sean's comments on everything, I thought they were really insightful. On the topic of Let's Plays, I follow a couple of them and more than one has convinced me to buy a game I might not have considered otherwise. The Thumbs are a good example of this. The Twitch streams can be considered a form of Let's Play and I have to imagine that they've sold several copies of Crusader Kings, Kerbal Space Program, and Spelunky at least. -
Heavy Rain comes to mind. Any of the 4 playable characters can die, but their death doesn't end the story, it changes the path the story takes.

The closest I can think of is the 4th Ace Attorney game, Apollo Justice. In the last case, you are actually viewing the events through the eyes of a jury member and can even pick a Guilty or Not Guilty verdict. There's no deliberation though so it's not quite what you're looking for.

After reading Lysistrata in high school, a few friends and I started using "Lioness on the cheese grater" to describe a number of things.

So I'm an idiot and didn't realize that Rollout would attack several turns in a row. I'm basically one of those dumb NPC trainers that's surprised by obvious and well known mechanics. Also thanks for the trades Teg.

I've never even searched for the movie. If someone did sent it to me, that would be a really odd gift.
-
The thing is, I checked and it's not in my order or payment history, so Amazon doesn't have a record of it either. I'll probably change it anyway just to be on the safe side, but I'm still kind of puzzled.
-
Maybe this is a Life thread type of thing, but it's really random so it goes here. I got a package yesterday from Amazon. It had my name on it. It had my address on it. Inside was a new copy of The Croods on Blu-Ray. I didn't order it and I definitely didn't pay for it. Does Amazon have some weird program where they send out random movies to customers?

Random followup to random thing: If you enter "Pokemon-like curve" and replace the word Pokemon with the name of a Pokemon, Wolfram Alpha will generate mathematical equations that when plotted make a drawing of said Pokemon. You can also do stuff like searching for "Pokemon with speed greater than 80" or "Pokemon with highest special attack" and get the relevant data. X and Y data is currently being added.
