Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

I miss the Cartoon Network groovies -
If you actually wanted to round pi to that many digits, then 03.14.16 is closer (3.14159...). Just sayin'.

Idle Thumbs 149: A Divine Exodus of Snakes

That's interesting, I feel almost the opposite. Because South Park is so topical, I feel like the humor has a much shorter life than the sort of generic comedy of the early Simpsons. -
Happy Pi Day. Go have some pie today.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

I ended up ordering a cheap usb wifi dongle while looking for some other stuff on Amazon so I'll try it out and see if it's my laptop's internal card that's the problem like I suspect it is. -
Idle Thumbs 149: A Divine Exodus of Snakes
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Actually I believe that the decision to do only the dailies was in fact a step back from playing a ton of the adventure mode. With regard to the Simpsons, it was the only cartoon I specifically made sure to watch on time. The rest I would just watch if they were on, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make sure I didn't miss a new episode. I remember being very upset anytime a Sunday Night Football game ran long (ie every game) and my Simpsons episode was cut short. -

It's about 6 years old (gee, has it been that long?). I'm thinking it's a hardware issue since the problem started rather suddenly, not after installing any new software or firmware. Heat doesn't seem to be a problem because ironically the ONLY time it seems to have a stable connection is while I'm playing TF2, which is probably when it's under the most strain. -

I'm pretty sure it's not a signal issue. When it is connected, it's a strong signal and I'm less than 10 feet from the router. The Bluetooth is off. I once left my phone upstairs just to see if that was doing anything and it made no difference. -

The drivers are up to date. The router's event log is weird. It's full of a lot of dhcp requests and acknowledgements, but many of them don't coincide with the connection drop. I haven't tried seeing if any services are being interrupted on my computer, but honestly I'm not even sure which ones to check. -

The game had better blow me away or there's going to be hell to pay. -

I've checked the IP addresses of everything connected to the router and everything is unique, so there's no conflict as far as I can tell. I've even had the router manually assign a specific IP to my laptop's MAC address just in case. The weird thing is when the connection goes down, my laptop seems to be unable to communicate with the router despite Windows telling me it's still connected (with no internet access). When I ping the router after losing the connection, all of the packets timeout. When I check the address of the gateway/dhcp/dns server, my router's IP is still there but I can't seem to communicate with it, so I'm not sure if I'm actually still connected or not. -
Turning the deadbolt on the door was the first puzzle I got really stuck on my first time through. Previous adventure game experience had taught me that puzzles were to be solved with complicated cartoonish logic so the ones that make real world sense tended to baffle me far longer than they should have.

It's an integrated wireless card. I've considered picking up a usb card to see if it's my laptop's hardware, but I'd rather not have to buy a potentially useless piece of equipment. -
I've seen that idea proposed before. It's got a lot of the same difficulties as a solo eggplant run with what is likely to be no payoff. I would be extremely surprised but also stupidly happy if it actually did something.

I had a dream that I had given a brilliant answer on a test. It was so brilliant that it ended up changing some theories and answering others, the kind of thing you see in movies when someone does something brilliant with math or science. All of this was told to the class just before another test was given. I spent so long basking in my own brilliance that I ended up with only 3 minutes left to actually take the test. I threw down some random bullshit answers and turned the test in. Then for some reason FreddieW called me and asked if I wanted to be in one of his videos. I immediately agreed and walked to where they were shooting (which took about 1 minute). As I got excited about the prospect of being an youtube star, I woke up.

For the last few weeks, I've been having problems with either my computer or my router and I'm hoping someone with more networking knowhow than I can help. At seemingly random times, my laptop will drop internet. It's still connected to the router (or so it says) but the actual connection to the internet is down. Other devices such as my phone and tablet connected to the same router are fine and the router itself doesn't seem to be showing any signs that the internet is down. The laptop will reestablish the connection a minute or so later, only to repeat the process after about an hour or so. If I manually disconnect and reconnect, it works right away but still does nothing to prevent the problem from recurring. Windows built in troubleshooting gives me different answers, such as a bad gateway, problems connecting to the dns server, or just being unable to do anything. Sometimes it will reestablish the connection, but most of the time the troubleshooter just turns the wifi card off and on and declares the problem solved. I've updated firmware on the router and drivers on my laptop. I've uninstalled a bunch of software I don't need that I thought might be doing it, tried using static ips and disabling dhcp, but nothing prevents the drop. The laptop is several years old now so it might just be failing hardware, but I wanted to see if someone here might have an idea. -

That was eerily relevant because I'm currently having some problems with my own internet/router. Also I love H. Jon Benjamnin. -
I made a post in a different thread about how the altar works and I started wondering if you could get 2 items from Kali (besides the kapala). So I decided to try it out. Bottom line is you can't. I sacrificed a damsel on the first altar I found, then blew it up. I then proceeded to scour every level after for an altar and all the bodies I could harvest. I had to go all the way to hell to gain enough favor, but the next item I got was the kapala. I don't know if this has been discussed anywhere else, but it was a fun little experiment.

Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)
SecretAsianMan replied to Irishjohn's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Kali has a certain set of items she'll give you and she won't give you one you already have, so if you already had the paste you won't get it again. If you have all the giftable items, she gives you a jet pack. If you have that too, then you get a big bomb box. I think the item gifted each time is randomized within the pool of remaining items. -
