  1. I Had A Random Thought...

Voice of reason? You seem to have mistaken me for someone else. At any rate, I've already ruined it by posting again. On to 2000!
  2. Batman: Arkham City

Can someone explain this to me? I don't mean just you miffy, this is a sentiment I'm hearing from multiple people about City and I kinda don't get it. What exactly is so bad about it? In other news, I fought Mr. Freeze last night. That was a fun boss. I like doing the environmental stuff and I really enjoyed that they make you use different methods to attack him rather than finding a single weakness and doing it over and over. I don't really like his design though, which is a thing I'm saying a lot about various characters in this game.
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

I currently have exactly 1000 (counted) posts. This is dissuading me from posting in any section except Idle Banter.
  4. Twitter :)

Technically my 1000th post was about Spelunky since Idle Banter doesn't count toward your post count.
  5. April Fool's Roundup

I've been meaning to learn Klingon
  6. Twitter :)

My first tweet is very appropriate for these forums Here's the picture:
  7. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

The left side usually don't have as many enemies as the right side does. Also the entrance has a large open space that makes it easier to get the shopkeepers to jump down below. Getting as many of the shopkeepers as possible to the bottom level makes it easier to avoid them entirely by bombing through the ankh shop to the exit if you want. Chris likes to clear enough of the side to ensure that the shopkeepers will jump all the way down, while I usually only clear one level's worth. A smaller area does mean a bomb can potentially do more damage, but it also means tighter quarters which can be very dangerous with the shopkeepers. Ultimately though, I think it's a matter of preference. Also, this is my 1000th (counted) post.
  8. Batman: Arkham City

Ah, I misunderstood, I thought it was referring to City. I haven't played Origins but from what I hear, it seems pretty skippable.
  9. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

The jetpack explodes when it's crushed. It does not get resurrected with you if you die this way. Oddly enough, explosives are ok.
  10. Batman: Arkham City

I picked it up for about that price during a previous Steam sale. It's easily worth several times that.
  11. Batman: Arkham City

Fists are definitely my number one used thing. I do wish the gadget use was a little more streamlined, it feels like every possible combination of two buttons is being used for one thing or another. It gets confusing, there's been more than one instance where I've tried to KO a guy on the ground and did something else entirely. But having a fight where I use a bunch of gadgets is extremely satisfying so I'm encouraging myself to use them more.
  12. Batman: Arkham City

I've played Asylum before. The systems in City feel more refined than Asylum and so far I'm enjoying the open areas enough that traversing them isn't bothering me.
  13. Feminism

I've started Arkham City. I'm only a few hours in, but I haven't noticed a ton of especially misogynistic language. I've heard "bitch" a few times but not a lot really. I'm sort of taking it in a comic book sense, which I guess isn't really that much better if it's an acceptable practice there. But these are villains and criminals. They're kind of supposed to be assholes. I will admit that they do seem to be much more willing to throw those kinds of insults toward Catwoman than Batman, although I think Batman scares them a lot more so they're going to take him more seriously whereas Catwoman is always sort of playful. Maybe it'll be more obvious as I get further in.
  14. Batman: Arkham City

I'm late to the party, but I finally started playing this. Man this game is super fun. I'm not normally into open world games because I find them too repetitive but I'm really liking it in this game. Granted the tasks are fairly repetitive here too, but in this case I'm actually enjoying them enough that I don't mind doing them again (except for those Augmented Reality Training ones, those suck but thankfully I'm done with them). The combat is really quite satisfying, which is a dumb thing to say about any game but whatever. The controls are a little complicated because of how many moves/gadgets you have but it's fun coming up with weird combos. My favorite thing to do is use the claw the pull a guy toward me then clothesline him. I'm also liking the Catwoman segments. The way she moves is so fluid in comparison to Batman, especially the way she climbs buildings by leaping from one perch to the next. I'm not a big fan of her design though. This game is doing a good job of getting me excited for Arkham Knight.
  15. There's no direct followup to Janeway's action in Equinox. There's not really even any indirect followup, really it's a (very) slight culmination to the disagreements she and Chakotay have starting back when they first made a deal with the Borg. Chakotay does disobey her and break the alliance, but he was technically in command of the ship while Janeway was disabled. In Equinox he straight up defies her right in front of her face.
  16. Recently completed video games

Finished up Bioshock Infinite. Long story short, I wasn't blown away. The combat bothered me a lot, the themes seemed problematic at best, and the story was just nonsense. Also, they managed to make a fight where you shoot a ghost with bullets unbelievably annoying.
  17. I enjoyed the ending of DS9 for it's sense of epicness (I hate that word but it's appropriate). It was different from all the other Star Treks, much like the series itself was. Yes, Picard saves humanity at the end of TNG, but the entire show and ending focuses on the Enterprise crew so you feel like they're really the only ones in any actual danger. Voyager is also just focused on Voyager. DS9 involves the entire quadrant really, so you get Klingons, Cardassians, Romulans, Vulcans, Ferengi, Breen, and of course Humans all in the mix, not to mention the Dominion. The one thing I really can't stand about the end of DS9 was the Pah-Wraiths. That was the most forced, pointless thing. Basically, it seemed like they needed to give Sisco a reason for existing besides just being the guy in charge. As for Jeri Ryan, yes, she was initially brought onto the show to attract a male audience but surprise surprise, she was actully quite good.
  18. BioShock Infinite

Well, I finished Infinite. I 'get' the story in that I understand the events that occurred, but I honestly don't see what the big deal was. Even if I hadn't known a large part of the plot before, I'm pretty sure I would have figured it out fairly early. The characters themselves were fairly well done and the acting was pretty good. I wish they had gone another way with the multiple reality idea and actually had the choices matter. Also I wish they went somewhere with the whole race thing instead of just using it as a backdrop. I feel like the game could have been made without those elements at all and still gone almost the same way. Gameplay wise, the combat itself was ok, but there were a lot of little things that bugged me. The limited amount of ammo, having multiple weapons that are functionally similar yet different with different ammo, and making the weapons super weak to force me to use the vigors. Using the vigors at the end felt less interesting to me than the first Bioshock because I just said fuck it, throw shit everywhere at everyone. Granted you could do that in Bioshock too, but at least I could plan encounters much more and actually use traps. Maybe I was playing the wrong way, but it just didn't work for me. The only part I really enjoyed was the skylines. That was a neat way of moving around. Also that siren fight was possibly one of the worst things a game has made me do in a long time. Despite how negative I sound, I don't think the game was all that bad. I just didn't find it particularly special. Overall,
  19. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Finally beat Yama again after failing for weeks.
  20. I thought the security camera heads were bad in the video I posted, but that is way, WAY more terrifying.
  21. No, it's probably not the same video they were referring to. I'm not sure which one they were talking about, but I posted the one above in the Big Dog thread.
  22. RE: Pole dancing robots RE: Google glass
  23. Twitter :)

Well since everyone else is doing it and you should always do what everyone else is doing @secretasianmanz I pretty much use twitter as a way of text messaging people whose numbers I don't have (namely the Thumbs, although I technically have Chris' number...).
  24. Oculus rift

Michael Abrash, formerly of Valve, joins Oculus as Chief Scientist
  25. Feminism

Got it. I will purposefully ignore the disparity and childishly laugh when I hear the word 'bitch' until my second playthough.
