What is the difference between Brotherhood and the first series? I saw FMA but haven't seen Brotherhood because it looked like the same thing maybe?
  2. FTL

Yeah, it took a LOT of tries to get the homeworlds to spawn and encounter the event. I ended up getting it twice in a row because in my first run with the Crystal cruiser I found the Rock homeworlds and the event again.
  3. FTL

I FINALLY got the Crystal Cruiser. Used the Rock C layout to do it. And I have to say, it's worth the effort. Crystal weapons are amazing in the early stages because you can completely ignore the shield system up to a point. By the time the enemy ships started getting more than 1 shield, I had already found more weapons so dealing damage was never really a problem. Also the lockdown ability is awesome. It's especially useful against the flagship. After disabling most of the weapons, I'd teleport onto the enemy ship, wait until I had 2 enemy crew members in the room with me, then I'd lockdown the room so they couldn't retreat to the medbay. I basically picked them off in pairs like this until I only had one gunner left who I let live until the end.

I love Lanius boarding parties, but unless I'm using the Lanius ship, I have a hard time getting them. Right now I'm using a Crystal/Mantis combo to pretty good effect. The main problem is the Mantis moves so much faster than they'll occasionally get separated when I run from room to room. I once accidentally locked my Mantis outside of a room using the Crystalman's lockdown ability. I'm lucky the ship starts with a cloning bay otherwise I would have lost him. Is it just me, or does the Swarm missile miss a lot? It seems about as accurate as a Flak. I'm having problems taking out shield systems so my other weapons can do damage.
  5. Saturday Morning Streams

Unless I'm just not getting any more notifications at all from Twitch (which isn't out of the question considering how well those work), I've noticed that Chris hasn't done a Spelunky stream since his streak was broken by the Camping Santo trip. Has Chris finally broken free of Spelunky? Are the days of garbage runs over? Is the Great Game no longer great?
  6. Webcomics

JL8 and Strong Female Protagonist continue to bring me joy for totally different reasons and it is the absolute greatest thing.
  7. FTL

I'm attempting to get the Crystal cruiser with the Rock C layout. I really like the Crystalmen, but I wish their ability was a little easier to use. I'm trying to use one in a boarding party right now, but I can never seem to seal the room off before at least one person makes it inside and I have to fight them instead of taking out a system. I once tried to activate it while paused, only for him to seal up the teleporter room on MY ship before going over to the enemy ship.
  8. Nintendo 3DS

My favorite Pokémon game was Smash because I could beat up Pikachu.
  9. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

That's what I want out of Nintendo. More weird experimental type stuff. More things that push the idea of what a game is and how you can play it. I want them to stop chasing the "hardcore" audience because they're clearly not suited for it anymore. I didn't buy a Wii to play a crappy port of CoD or Dead Rising or whatever. I bought the Wii on the promise of innovation and fun. Give me more of that. The thought makes me cringe, but you are probably right. Also I predict that at least one pro team will call themselves Team Rocket.
  10. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

This in fact is the case to a certain degree. Nintendo told IGN that in Japan it was just viewed as a quirky thing people were doing and they didn't get upset when it went away. The emphasis was on the bug fixing and not the removal of same sex relations.
  11. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Didn't record it, but I had the sloppiest victory run. Lost the jetpack killing myself with the teleporter. Lost my last rope during the fight with Olmec. Lost my shotgun in the lava during my fight with Yama. He ended up killing himself by flying too close to a ball and chain so in the end I still won, but it was still a disastrous run.
  12. Getting into PC gaming

I have an Orbweaver. I used to have a Nostromo (which I gave to tegan) and both are pretty great. The extra set of keys on the Orbweaver is useful (I felt the biggest flaw in the Nostromo was the need for another row of keys) and it has more adjustment options to fit your hand. They also make a "stealth" version with quieter but still mechanical keys. I bought both items used from Amazon and didn't have any problems with either one. I highly recommend both. I agree except for the part about WASD. I have a "gaming" keyboard, but it's such a waste because it's still pretty uncomfortable and the extra "gaming" keys are useless because they're not near the home row. I grew up playing PC games so WASD is second nature to me, but using a dedicated keypad is so much better that I hate using a normal keyboard for games. I also have a wired 360 controller for games that call for it.

Good to hear that Vosslerlarry. Breakups suck but it sounds like you're over the worst of it. I'm definitely avoiding a corded mower and some of the reviews I've read about battery powered ones indicate they're pretty good. My yard is pretty small without any big hills so I think a battery powered electric one will work just fine for me.
  14. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

It is my favorite of them all. I have no idea what it does. All I care is that it exists and it is a literal B for spokes.

    Bespoke
  16. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

Nintendo Says No to Virtual Equality in Life Game Nintendo has officially said they're not going to allow gay marriage in Tomodachi Life. One thing the article doesn't mention is that previously there was a "bug" that allowed for same sex couples in the game, but it was patched out in Japan and likely won't be present in the Western release. Nintendo's position is that their goal was never to make any kind of social commentary. Its fine if they didn't initially intend to make a social commentary, but it sure seems like they're making one now.
  17. Idle Thumbs 157: Molymoto

I swear I didn't forget Nick this time! It's just that the Licorice Babies I got for him weren't covered by Amazon Prime so they had to be sent in a separate package. The Big Hunk is supposed to be for Sean based on a suggestion by Jake. Chris' Goldfish was suggested by Argobot. Jake gets the Nerds Rope because Jake is Jake. Also I too have a chub pack of Nerds Rope at home because I ordered one with the intention of sending it to the office, then realized it would be easier and cheaper to just have them all sent from Amazon instead of repacking them and shipping them myself. And I had already started thinking about how to engineer a giant Goldfish when Sean mentioned me.
  18. Idle Thumbs 157: Molymoto

I basically did what Sean said and downloaded the episode on my phone, then drove out to the middle of nowhere with no cell service to listen to it ...unfortunately for me that place is my job.
  19. Nintendo 3DS

I am one of those NPCs in the beginning of the game that failed to get anywhere and new players beat the crap out of with their starter Pokémon.
  20. Nintendo 3DS

The only Pokémon game I've ever played is Y and I never even made it to the second gym.
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

You know when you're in the car and you really REALLY have to use the bathroom and the entire world seems to decide that THIS is the moment when they're going to obey the speed limit and drive SUPER SLOW? I hate that.
  22. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

I've never understood font arguments. It's a weird idea and it sort of depends on which Zelda game you're talking about. In Ocarina they basically hang out in the Sacred Realm until the end of the game and what happens depends on which branch of the timeline you follow. In the original Link to the Past the maidens are all descendants of the sages so it's implied that the original ones died. In Wind Waker, 2 of the sages are flat out stated to have been murdered by Ganon's forces which is why you need to find new ones. In Twilight Princess, the sages are basically spirits, one of which was killed by Ganon. Basically, the answer is it's complicated.
  23. Life

I'm only looking at mowers with batteries. Like I said, the yard's not very big so I could probably do it in one charge. Worst case scenario is I have to do it in halves but I don't think I will. Mowing wet grass is definitely a pain and something I'll be sure to avoid whenever possible.
  24. Life

My grass is starting to get pretty tall, which means I'm not going to be able to put off getting a lawn mower for much longer. I'm seriously considering getting an electric mower instead of a gas mower. My yard isn't that big and I don't really don't want to have to deal with getting gas for a mower. I've only ever used gas mowers and I don't much like the thought of having to do so again. Anyone ever used an electric? Any thoughts about gas vs electric?
  25. Idle Sugar

I got an email that my latest candy package is on its way to the Thumbs office and scheduled to arrive later this week. Well, except for Nick's part. That one I had to order separate from the rest. Also I wasn't able to write a gift note for it because "f. Nick" is apparently still in effect. Technically Chris isn't getting candy but I don't think he'll care. For those curious, the contents and intended recipients are Nerds Ropes for Jake (suggested by my kickstarter postcard) Big Hunk for Sean (suggested by Jake) Goldfish for Chris (suggested by Argobot) Licorice Babies for Nick (suggested by Tegan)
