Idle Thumbs 161: The Eyes of Luigi
SecretAsianMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Imagine if the most recent Mortal Kombat game was the 8th one. The hashtag #MK8 would become way more interesting. -
Don't forget the main enemies of said three characters. Their basis is also entirely Christian. And I think my favorite part of all of this, is that they interact with non-Christian stuff all the time and none of them bats an eye. There's even a priest who regularly gets involved and doesn't say anything of blasphemy. Almost all the magical/religious factions know of the existence of the others. They don't really try to deny the other side exists, they just know which team they're playing for.

Idle Thumbs 161: The Eyes of Luigi

That's very true and also a reason I think that things like giving AI the ability to flank is also not particularly useful. In a lot of games where the enemy will flank me, the end result is usually that I get hit a few times, turn to whoever shot me, kill them, then turn back the way I was facing and continue to mow down his buddies. In order to make flanking an effective tactic, you have to make the player more fragile, which also means that any number of other tactics will work too, including a ton of guys standing still and shooting. I don't really think that AI is the problem, I think that trying to figure out how to make the AI's actions meaningful is the problem, because even if they have intelligence it's often useless when the mechanics of the game override everything. -
The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

Marty O'Donnell wants his money. He's suing Bungie for not paying him for "unused vacation, paid time off, abbatical time, and other benefits". Bungie denies these accusations naturally. -
I meant that as a general statement, but from what I can gather, some establishments that have locations in both the US and Canada honor it.

Idle Thumbs 161: The Eyes of Luigi

The thing about moving intelligently in corridor like spaces is that there is in fact a way to do that. One guy shoots suppressing fire while the other advances forward, then they switch. It's basic military tactic that works extremely well, which is probably the exact reason it doesn't happen a lot in games. I imagine that because it can be so effective, it's less fun for the player to feel trapped and outsmarted by the AI. Games love to tout their intelligent AI, but I think that a truly intelligent AI would actually frustrate most players, especially if they just want to shoot a thousand dudes. -
I just did some co-op Sniper Elite with a buddy. That Overwatch mode is fun. The campaign was cool too, lots of covering each other while we did stuff.

I have a conical straw hat that is commonly associated with Asians that I picked up in Japan. I bet I could start wearing it now that I actually have yard work to do.

More stuff about women in this book As for the next book thing, all I can say is it's about time. I was wondering when they were going to deal with all that.

God yes. That drives me nuts.

Uncharted 3 (single player download, North America only) is apparently free right now on the Playstation Store for everyone, not just Plus members. http://kotaku.com/uncharted-3-is-free-for-all-ps3-owners-right-now-1585892127 Edit: Looks like it was a mistake. The listing's been removed from the store. No idea if my purchase of $0 is still good.

My old apartment was like that. Technically you couldn't have a grill if you had a wood balcony (the ground floor apartments had concrete patios so they were allowed) but the management flat out told me that they didn't really care. Unless the fire marshal called or stopped by for a random inspection, they weren't going to check. I never did end up getting a grill while I was there but I plan to get one next year once my deck is finished. Assuming I actually get it done by next year.

Unlocking a price drop via firmware update would be pretty awesome.

In actual Batman news that probably surprises no one, gaming outlets are reporting that Arkham Knight has been delayed to 2015. Reasons given include the good old standard "we want to make the best game we can".

I've been messing around with an endless mod lately. It's really rough in the beginning because the scaling has been changed so it's entirely possible to encounter ships with 3 shield points and multiple weapons in the first sector. The rebel ships are especially strong in the beginning. Once I got a few sectors in though, I really started enjoying the ability to experiment with high level builds. I've had a few runs in which I've purchased every possible ship upgrade. The mod also introduces some new weapons and drone types (such as crystal and missile drones that shoot much slower than the normal combat drones but retain the shield piercing properties of those weapon types). One thing I'm really liking are the boss fights. In each sector there's a super powerful ship that drops an enhanced weapon or drone as a reward and is the only way to obtain these items. Right now I have an enhanced crystal weapon that shoots 3 shots and an enhanced fire bomb that does additional crew damage, both with a power cost of only 2 each. I can take out the bosses without a scratch now and I have more scrap than I can spend. It's kind of fun being a crazy powerful menace to the galaxy.

I remember a couple stories from the various Evening with Kevin Smith films involving pot, one in particular involving Ben Affleck's former house that he bought, his wife, and getting groceries delivered to him. I think that may have been the start of him actually getting into it. I don't remember which particular Evening it was from though. Also there's this from 2001

I tried listening to the smodcast when it started, but I gave up about 5 episodes in. I was hoping for more "An Evening with Kevin Smith" and less "listen to Kevin Smith make an idiot out of himself".

If it was a joke, then I didn't find it funny because I didn't get it. I figured it had to be some kind of reference to something otherwise why bother saying anything at all, but I just assumed it was a dumb thing and left it at that. I suppose you could argue that it's a throw away line because I don't think it comes up again, at least in this context. But it's a weird thing to call out in the first place.

I had no idea what was up with that and I didn't bother trying to figure it out.
