Honestly I have significantly fewer problems with their financial/pricing approach than I do with the way they treat People. The former is just shit that happens in every industry all the time, as unfortunate as that is, but the latter is gross manipulative bullshit that I can't really tolerate (and it seems like they're getting worse and worse and worse about it - it wasn't nearly this bad when I last researched this junk). Bleh. But to touch back on self-driving cars: In my opinion, transportation should just be something that's easily and cheaply available to anyone, and I think self-driving cars can provide that service fairly easily. I mean, it'll take work, so maybe "easily" isn't the right word. It's a somewhat-distant future kind of thing, but it's a future that's approaching little by little and will definitely happen. And I think that's good. There is public transportation, of course, but in a lot of cities (especially in America!!) it's just absolute garbage (see where I currently live, Dallas).

Uber does let you tip, but drivers are not allowed to solicit them, and it's only cash. Not that that matters to you, since, as you said, you don't carry cash, but I figured it's worth pointing out. I think I will start using Lyft now, though, precisely because of the tip thing. I mean I hate, absolutely detest, and fucking despise tipping... but this is America and I know people in tipping-industries get underpaid otherwise... As much as I hate tipping, I hate feeling guilty about not tipping even more. I actually tend to tip pretty well, unless the service absolutely sucks. Most people laugh at me when they see how much I tip. ): Well f u 2 buddy! That honestly sounds like some shenanigans to me. How would Uber even know who's getting tipped? It's all cash! The app just straight up doesn't support it. Actually now that I think about it I'm an idiot and it probably all has to be reported for tax purposes, doesn't it? So that's how Uber would know.

That's a problem with capitalism, not a problem with self-driving cars.

Self-driving cars will be the best thing to ever happen to the automobile market.

Wow a lot has happened in the past few months! That one about the death threat is particularly insane, although that's a human being doing it, and not Uber. Though if the guy didn't get fired (the article only says suspended, which is suspicious)...

Yeah I've read about that, too. Regulations are good and all (I think?) but when they're used maliciously, well, that's that, I guess. EDIT: Didn't know they got rid of the mustaches! Dang.

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
Twig replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
I found it amusing, rather than annoying. I also don't think it killed the discussion at all. Everyone else got their point across fairly well. I know people like that. I didn't seem like he actually looked down on people for using gaming mice or anything, he just doesn't see any need to dive into it himself. I guess he could've just remained silent during the whole discussion, but eh. That's what conversation is about. SHRUG!- 1367 replies

That's true! Uber is bad. Taxis are also bad. They're bad for different reasons, and it just comes down to what you are more comfortable with. Actually I don't really know much about Lyft, maybe they're saints. But they have those pink mustaches so I'm inclined to hate them. I dunno, there's stuff on the internet, somewhere! It can basically be summed up as "Uber is shitty, but also so are taxis, but Uber is cheaper, but also it's cheaper because it's shitty, so, you know, do what you gotta do." The thing taxi drivers hate are the tokens, if I recall correctly. They're super expensive, or something. Also they get paid very little, percentage-wise. But then Uber drops their prices across the board without warning to the drivers. Taxis expect tips, Uber doesn't support tips in the app (which annoys me, for sure, because I don't carry cash). I know from using Uber and talking to drivers (because boy do some of them like to talk) they on the whole seem to like driving for Uber? Which really surprised me, to be honest. Most of them seem to do it in their spare time, though, rather than as a full-time job, which is interesting. Dallas recently passed some ordinance that Uber drivers have to get inspections. I guess it costs thirty bucks. Taxis smell weird, like rotten oranges, and the drivers smoke and play the music so loud I can't hear them talking to me. Okay that was just one guy one time. He also had a PS2 hooked up to a screen in the back of the passenger seat. That was a weird night. The biggest difference is that Uber is largely the same in every city (prices withstanding), whereas taxis are run by tons of different companies. So some taxi companies are probably much better than others. And some cities are probably better with the token system. It's all gross, though. Just make me some fucking trains that work and aren't filthy and go everywhere, you shitty city of Dallas fuck you.

Oh okay cool. Guess everything I've read was bullshit, nevermind, thanks for SETTING ME RIGHT OL' BUDDY OL' PAL.

They're no more or less scummy than a taxi, as far as I've been informed. Not really worth worrying about. If you're using any of them, you're contributing to some real shit. Capitalism. Just walk!

Also I think maybe I want to mention The Heroic Legend of Arslan? It's a Japanese twist on a legendary Iranian hero (I believe entirely fictional), and it's very well animated. The story is kind of, hmm, bog-standard stuff, but I'm enjoying it? The sword fights are kind of great, and there's lots of political maneuvering going on among all the factions, and the main character is fairly likable after a point (he starts out as ignorant baby prince, but then gets better). It started last season, and is still going. 14 episodes so far. Weirdly, the manga is only ~25 chapters in, and I was reading that, but the anime has already surpassed it. I'm kind of surprised they started the anime so soon, and there's a game coming out... I guess it's really popular??? I dunno. The manga comes out really slowly, too, it's definitely not a weekly thing! Anyway, check it out if any of that sounds interesting? I'm liking it a whole heck of a lot more than I thought I would. It's not always exciting and it's kind of slow at times, but I find it fairly consistently interesting, even if, so far, it's not all that deep. It does take a few episodes to really get going, though. (My main complaint so far is the introduction of magic, although it does seem to be fairly rare, so far, kind of like, ah, Game of Thrones. Up until a few episodes ago, there was the priest lady who said she could listen to the djinn on the wind, but there was no indication it was going to become something tangible. Then suddenly bam earth sorcerer. Ah well. It's not omni-present, so as long as Arslan doesn't level up and learn how to control the djinn, I'll be happy.) (Actually my other main complaint is the fucking female priest lady goddamnit her outfit. What the fuck Japan, can't you make a normal lady wearing normal clothes?)

I feel like I've done a poor job of selling Rokka, so let's just say that Adlet, the self-proclaimed strongest man in the world, fights like some kind of trickster, and one of his moves is to snap his teeth together, using some contraption to breathe fire. Check out the end of this preview. Also he has a sword that he presses a button and the tip opens up, spilling out caltrops. He's a real fiend, that Adlet. I love it. (but then the main lady protagonist, the one with the bunny ears, has some kind of rope bondage shit or I dunno what going on so ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff)

After my whine fest last night, I'm feeling much better. Nothing's really changed, but I got to vent, and that's nice. I hope no one read it because it's just embarrassing! I am a mess. I still need to figure some shit out, and I will after I get back from TI4. It helps seeing other people going through similar shit and making an effort to change things. So good on you people!

I for one was definitely affected by this anime.

Are people playing this on ps4 or what because that's what I'd get it on and I don't want to even bother if I'm not going to be playing with people. U:

To be honest, I'm already going into this with that kind of mindset. The only thing that's been holding me back is the controls. I haven't been able to tolerate a console shooter since Timesplitters 2, and that was also the first one I was able to tolerate. We'll see!

Okay I'll try the demo I guess. ):

I hate FPS on controllers it's awful there's nothing worse in this life or the next. I didn't know there was a demo, but unless it's really long, I dunno if it'll tell me how used to things I can get.
-
No noooo that's wrong. D: I like the sound of basically all of the things, but I just worry I won't be able to get over the controls. ):
-
I think I might buy Destiny even though I think I'll end up hating it. Quick talk me out of it, thanks.
