  1. I Had A Random Thought...

Ah! It's that thing I do all the time that I didn't know had a name! I've been doing that since I was a small child. Although not at like the end of my sentence, just sort of as a way to make my voice sound different for a bit. Although I'm sure it happens automatically sometimes without me even realizing it.
  2. I Had A Random Thought...

I don't know what vocal fry is.
  3. Yes it is amazing! I want another game that uses this kind of system. (While I'm at it I also loved experimenting with Bastion's weapon combinations, which is weird I guess because often people's biggest complaint with that game is that the combat was too samey throughout and I'm just like "did you never bother to switch weapons?")
  4. Because (if I recall correctly), when you combine it with dash, it drops bombs at every dash, and you just dashdashdash around everywhere and then everything's dead and mmmmmmmmm i love that game
  5. Books, books, books...

I haven't read it but I'm pretty should I would enjoy it a lot. I'm just bad at reading as much as I should. I'm currently reading Terry Pratchett's Dodger, which is definitely a Terry Pratchett book and also definitely not Discworld and probably not all that fantastic but I'm enjoying it anyway. It's sort of like a more grounded Assassin's Creed style of historical fiction (minus the aliens or whatever and I guess before George fucking Washington showed up) where a bunch of figures from history and/or fiction are all together in this city but aren't really the important part of the story (except, of course, Charles Dickens). Which is strange. It also wholly embraces the damsel in distress trope in the most brash and stereotypical way possible, which is disappointing, because Discworld was always so good at not being stereotypical and tropey.
  6. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah it's awkward to hear, too! I don't know these people are kind of uhhh. Yeah. It's awkward.
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

Am I a bad person for wanting to see that.
  8. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    I've heard it both ways!
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I've heard people say SJW in person.
  10. Sonic Dreams Collection: What Could Have Been

i uh saw this on twitter and thought it was just a new trend of posting weird sonic video shit i didn't know it was... this
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

AFAIK SJW has always been a derogatory thing, but those people labelled as such attempted to embrace it and claim it as their own. Basically what Bjorn said.
  12. I Had A Random Thought...

I'd guess partly cloudy is a persistent state, whereas clear with periodic clouds is mostly clear with clouds that show up every now and then.
  13. Ferguson

This I would agree with entirely.
  14. Ferguson

Yeah it is not something I am an expert on. I know that I still care! Also, relevant news: http://www.buzzfeed.com/evanmcsan/bernie-sanders-campaign-adds-young-black-woman-as-new-public#.yt6RMzlVa http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bernie-sanders-racial-inequality_55c81153e4b0f1cbf1e56b77 Whether or not the rally interruptions were the trigger doesn't really matter. This is good, yes? Well, I assume so. I haven't read, only just found. They're tow and one day old respectively.
  15. Ferguson

I found the article I was talking about! http://www.thestranger.com/blogs/slog/2015/08/09/22671957/guest-editorial-why-saturdays-bernie-sanders-rally-left-me-feeling-heartbroken I was more talking about my ramblings about my own ignorance. Although I do think maybe this belongs in that other thread more, it's not a big deal. We're a small enough community. I wouldn't worry about it. Gorm: Huh, that's a lot of information to take in. That last link with the Sarah Palin thing and the "religion is bad" angle (I do consider myself an atheist, but goddamn) though seems like it's written specifically as a hit-piece, so I have a hard time not taking it with several grains of salt. EDIT: to 93: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say he's never said anything (although it's worth noting, those are just two small tweets). It's more that he rarely directly addresses the issues that #BLM cares about. He approaches from the economic angle almost entirely, which is definitely something I agree on, but isn't the only angle that needs to be addressed. If that makes sense. It's worth noting I guess that I really like Bernie Sanders, so take everything I say about him accordingly.
  16. Ferguson

Yeah also I didn't mean to sound dismissive with my first sentence there. I really am a political idiot. I do believe that some good can come out of things like that, and sometimes it's the only way to get a point across, or at least, it's a required step. But watching that video really just man I didn't want to listen to anything they said, they wouldn't let that man have a single word. I get the whole "now you know how they feel" angle of things, but that doesn't really work on me, I guess. I definitely would not have reacted any differently to a white dude doing the same. (This isn't really relevant to the general topic of this thread, sorry. I just needed to get that out of my brain. I'm good now.) EDIT: I'm trying to find a write-up from the speaker who went immediately before Bernie Sanders. It was really spot on. She also spoke from the perspective of a woman of color and it was good. BUT I CAN'T FIND IT. Hopefully these clues will help someone better at googling find it. I thought it was good. D:

For the record, I really appreciate clarifications that 93 supplies. I don't always agree with opinions, but that's fine. This is an important clarification. Facts are super important when it comes to these things, at least to me. The last thing I want to do is misinterpret something and then have that incorrect information thrown back in my face at the worst moment, and I believe the people who participated in that protest would agree. --- I watched the video of one of those Bernie Sanders interruptions, and it was real rough. It wasn't even HIS event. He was just speaking there. He was invited. I understand the intent, though. Bernie Sanders is, on paper, as far as I know, one of the more likely candidates to openly support the movement. (He actively participated in the Civil Rights Movement.) Even so, he hasn't (or hadn't?) actually spoken openly on the movement. He's touched on race a bunch, but largely from the economics viewpoint, as in, we need to raise minimum wage, we need to reduce the wealth gap, we need to get rid of corporatization, etc., and that will inherently help minorities because all of those things directly or in directly help minorities. But... still no direct comments on BLM or the state of affairs re: police militarization, and all the other stuff that's sprung up in the past year. In some ways, targeting someone like that, who is ostensibly on your side, but not outspoken about it, is far more effective than, for example, disrupting a rally full of openly racist individuals. If you get him to speak on it, it's going to be good, probably. But that video I watched was really, really rough. It was two women SCREAMING at an old man (not Bernie, but someone else) who was trying to say "We will give you time to speak" until finally he gave up and let them speak right away, and then Bernie Sanders had to leave because it wasn't his event and he had somewhere else to be. I guess that's my thoughts on the subject. EDIT: It may be a common thing, but I don't think that makes it inherently okay. But I'm a political idiot so I guess I don't really know. EDIT EDIT: He's also definitely talked about the prison systems and how it disproportionately affects black youths.
  18. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

Me too. Although without the super charismatic March, they will have a different image for me. As I said in the esports podcast topic, it's the players I follow and love. I'm already sad that the year after I fell in love with March, he'll be gone. What a beautiful, hopeful man he is. Also agreed about ehome. <3 rOtk
  19. On the topic of What The Fuck Is Happening With Dota: https://twitter.com/ixmike88/status/630774936500486145 "only 3 weeks until roster locks what the hell" Um well okay then that's rough! (I could've sworn ixmike88 quit pro dota, though. Also I dunno exactly what he's referring to.)
  20. anime

I really liked the episodic almost sitcom-esque format of the anime until the second half when the dumb Big Plot started. But I find this is a thing I apparently experience very frequently with anime. Like Trigun! Except Trigun redeemed itself by the end of the dumb Big Plot, whereas I don't see Kekkai Sensen doing the same. Also to be fair to your complaints I think my favorite "character" was actually just the world. It's an incredible world. They introduce a lot of characters that have a lot of potential (like that chess playing guy or the mushroom spore guy or the master's second disciple or hell even the other members of the organization that never really do much) and really pique my interest... and then they look in a different direction. It's a format I don't entirely find unappealing! Biggest problem, maybe, is that they planned far too few episodes and didn't have time to really explore everybody to the depth required. Which is odd, since the manga is ten volumes long. I heard the anime actually diverged from the manga significantly. But this last episode, seriously, it's almost two months. I read they wanted to make the episode longer to fit in everything they needed (which maybe supports the first sentence in this paragraph!), but goddamnit what is taking so long? Whatever happens in this episode, I don't have any faith in it being satisfying, but I still want to finish. \: I suspect the anime is written by people who are huge fans of the manga but wanted to ...write fan fiction or somethign weird. So they never bothered to actually explain anything?? I don't know.
  21. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

Yes, I believe that it was intentional irony in that case. Also yeah I know America is great and the greatest and greater than everyone else and damnit we're so great! But I've never liked it. I never bought into the school spirit thing either so I guess I'm just bad at taking pride in my surroundings just because they happen to be where I exist.
  22. I don't know if there were too many teams, but they definitely shouldn't have brought them all to the main event and made it last six days. I mean, I didn't come last year, but holy shit I was worn out after six days of sitting in a stadium.
  23. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

Yeah I was there, too, and, yeah, holy shit the EG fans. The way they dressed, the way they talked, it was incredible. Like I was at a real sporting event! That said, there was a group of hardcore EG fans in front of me for every game, and they repeatedly tried to start EG chants even over the oppressive USA chants, so those guys and girls were cool! That said, Badfinger, there has definitely historically been ironic USA chants at TI (and, as Jutranjo points out, other places). Most notably when Na'Vi won, it was USA USA everywhere. I found it sort of amusing, as that was my first time encountering the joke. But then it never stopped happening... I don't think it was meant to be ironic when it came to EG, though. I was going to mention SumaiL (the Pakistani on EG), but he apparently has a green card and fully identifies as an American, so I decided not to bring it up. The Canadian fellow (Aui_2000), however, yeah. Maybe he was a bit put off? Hell, maybe SumaiL was anyway. It's something I'd be interested to know, as, like I said, I really didn't like it. To be clear, it's not that I'm against patriotism, it just felt like... Meh. I could do without it at this sporting event where people from all over the world play against and with each other.
  24. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

Did anyone else find the "U-S-A" chanting a little weird? 'Cause I did. I'm all for chanting for teams, but chanting for countries feels disingenuous to me. Especially when nobody was yelling "SOUTH KOREA! SOUTH KOREA!" or whatever else. "MVP! MVP!" Not that the crowd had any problem rooting for other teams or anything, but geez the team was Evil Geniuses, not "Team USA". (Of course, EG did hand out little US flags with the stars replaced with the EG logo, so I guess that didn't help. But, given past tournaments, I know it would've happened anyway.) I'm probably weird I guess.
  25. For the record, Liquipedia is the best source for info on the competitive Dota 2 scene, at least as far as I know: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/dota2/The_International/2015#Invited_Teams
