  2. Saint's Row The Third

For a while I had a similar problem, and it was so bad that I literally could not shoot my pistols as fast as I clicked, and then my computer would start BOOP BOOP BOOPing at me because it couldn't handle all the inputs, or something? I don't know. I turned the video settings down to "medium" overall, and the problem went away. Game got slightly uglier, but... hey whatever? It still runs better than GTAIV on the lowest settings. \:
  3. Goty.cx 2011

I had the same experience with my co-op partner. It was great. So great.
  4. Books, books, books...

No, no, Thunder was specifically talking about piracy, not cheaper eBooks. A different topic entirely, rather than a comparison. Or at least, that was my understanding.
  5. Books, books, books...

Well, it seems to me, writing is something people do because they love it, right? There's often not much money in it, unless they hit it big. But until then... So, writing quality wouldn't drop, I don't think. Writers are used to being starving artists. They do it for love of the craft, not for the money. Maybe? That's the stereotype, anyway. I could be wrong. I don't know any writers who do it for a living, personally. And then there are the readers. Books, by their nature, are a much more, ahem-hem, "hardcore" thing? Not everyone reads, but pretty much everyone I know listens to (and pirates) music. (I do know a few oddballs who dislike music, period. I do not understand them.) The people who truly have a love for music don't usually end up being the ones who pirate, in my experience? So the same might end up holding true for people who read.
  6. Books, books, books...

Yeah that's a valid worry. I dunno. Also, god, what I wouldn't do for a color e-ink e-reader (e-e-e-e-) to replace my comic book collection.
  7. I'm pretty sure that's the best kind of cast.
  8. Books, books, books...

I'm a fan of H.G. Wells. I read quite a few of his stories on the aforementioned iPod Touch.
  9. Books, books, books...

Yeah, PD books are all over the place in all kinds of different formats. I read more than a few of 'em on my iPod Touch before I got tired of the small, super bright screen. I was more asking about alternative storefronts, as the Nook supports other formats. Not a whole lot of 'em, though. This thing is a super rad device, but... they want me to pay $16 for a fucking digital copy of Ubik (a book recommended by a friend)? Paperbacks are usually like 2/3 that! It's ridiculous. 1Q84 is similarly priced, but at least it's apparently a thousand pages, so it'd be expensive even in paperback... I... I don't understand why they're so expensive? It doesn't make sense to me.
  10. Books, books, books...

Okie dokie. Also holy crap ebooks are expensive on the nook store. Are there other, cheaper alternatives?
  11. Books, books, books...

    Which one would you recommend?
  12. Books, books, books...

Huh. And here I was thinking about reading 1Q84.

I know I said Bastion earlier, but I am changing my mind. I AM CHANGING MY MIND. SAINTS ROW THE THIRD SAINTS ROW THE THIRD I am pretty sure that Volition is like my favorite developer now. There is just so much absurdity in this game. The writing genuinely made me laugh many times. The characters are ridiculous. A pimp who speaks in autotune ALL THE TIME. I don't even? The set pieces for the missions are amazing I AM SKYDIVING WITH GUNS AND JUMPING THROUGH THE COCKPIT OF AN AIRPLANE TRYING TO SMASH INTO ME also and then there's this and that and the other thing. Some seriously boss stuff. It is the single most video gamey video game I have ever played. It's like when they were making the game, they asked themselves at every turn, "Would that be fun?" and if the answer was yes, they put it in the goddamn game. I want more games to be THIS. And just as a thing: while I was initially somewhat hesitant to care about the "writing" due to one of the big marketing strings I saw revolving around a giant purple dildo, I can officially confirm that that is not the game. This isn't a game about fart jokes and haha dildos. Those things exist, but they are not the jokes. They simply exist as part of this utterly absurd, hysterical, and most importantly, fun world. And even though it's a sandbox game, for sure, I honestly believe that just the missions alone would make for a pretty damn good game. The sandbox setting adds to the experience, yes, but it is not the whole experience. Oh Jesus I love this game. I'm genuinely sad that I've finished it. I want... more. I want it to never end. Give me more! ): Dear Volition, Please give me Saints Row: On Mars next. Naturally, I expect Red Faction: Guerrilla's destruction tech. (Actually I don't particularly care if it's on Mars as long as the game as FULL as Saints Row: The Third and comes with the RF:G desctruction tech). Also add in some Crackdown style superpowers because I loved Crackdown, but I don't have a 360 anymore. Love, Twig

Yep. So now I'm not gonna craft my coal and instead of getting nothing but coupons, I'll just get nothing!
  15. General Video Game Deals Thread

So some guy apparently crafted 147 coal today and got 21 Valve coupons. Not sure if it's real, but other people are reporting that they have similarly crafted nothing but Valve coupons today. Now I'm scared to craft mine (I'm up to 74, and it looks like that's where I'll stay). I was waiting until the last day to do so. I wonder if the "gift pile" was actually a legitimate "pile", in that there's limited stock of certain things, and now only Valve stuff is left? I have all of the cheesemints except for three: Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, Game of Thrones - Genesis, and Super Meat Boy. I didn't buy Space Marine because, even though I wanted to, I was low on funds (I have them now, but I'm not paying $38). I didn't buy Game of Thrones because, even though I was interested, it apparently ended up being quite the dud. I own Super Meat Boy, but... at this point, I don't really care enough to bother. I'll go for it some day just because I love the game, but I don't feel like stressing out over it. X:

I honestly don't think it was intentional. There IS an upside to these coupons: they can be used in combination with any deals that appear before March 2012. So you'll get 50% off whatever the sale price is. It's not too bad. It's just that... well... it didn't work out how they planned, I think. It's still a good sale, they just have this one hiccup, and unfortunately, some people let the shitty coupons soil the experience for them. I definitely preferred the way the Summer Sale did it, though, where you got to pick your prizes, and you didn't have to sacrifice your chances to win. The trading aspect of this event is sorta fun, I guess, but it's not worth the loss of a guaranteed prize.

Yeah BoI cheesemints are super duper buggy. It's ridiculous. I have all of them except for two. Loki's Horns and Golden God. I've unlocked the horns, though, and have picked them up many times. That app doesn't work for me, because I think it bugged out in-game in that the "Secret" was never actually unlocked. I'm worried not having that will ruin my chances of successfully unlocking Golden God. I only have three items left to grab for my collection. ):
  18. General Video Game Deals Thread

I traded. He actually offered $20 of games for 25 coal (or maybe it was 27, definitely less than 29), but I felt kind of bad, so yeah. Still, he wanted it!
  19. General Video Game Deals Thread

Serious Sam 3 is 12 bucks here: http://www.getgamesgo.com/product/serious-sam-3-bfe Also, up to 49 coal. I'm not giving it away, but if you wanna give me a game in exchange... Teehee. I did get one such deal early on. I got Rage and Greed Corp ($17.50 worth of games) for 29 coal. Alas, no such luck since.

  21. Books, books, books...

That sounds neat. The first review snippet's mention of Adams and Vonnegut are encouraging. I like them both. I think I liked Mark Twain when I was younger, so I might do this. Examples of authors I like: Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, H.G. Wells, Robert Jordan, George R. R. Martin, Kim Stanley Robinson, Neal Stephenson, Neil Gaiman. Those are all fiction, and generally deal with sci-fi or fantasy (or simply the fantastic). That doesn't mean I'm exclusively interested in those two genres, though. Like I said, I'm trying to branch out. U:
  22. Books, books, books...

(Real) steampunk is pretty cool. I dunno, I'm kind of open to anything. Although I say that, there are things I dislike. It's not so much specific genres that I dislike, though... For example, Dickens. I have no problem with the genre or setting or characters. It's mostly the way he writes? But I might like it these days? Last time I tried was when I was FORCED to try in high school. I'd like to get into more nonfiction reading, but I don't know what exactly. I did dump the Wheel of Time series on there because I wanted to read it again and also finally read the new books, which I own but haven't actually read. I'm a fan of hard sci-fi, like The Mote in God's Eye, Red Mars. (Two pretty different takes on the genre.)
  23. Books, books, books...

I got a Nook for Ecksmas! I want to use this to get back into reading. I don't know what I want to read, though. Ahh!

I liked the musics in that trailer.
