I have this horrible tendency to forget that I have life-saving items, such as BKB, on my person. Sure, when I'm getting ready for a big team fight that I know is about to happen, I'm all prepped to pop all my long cooldowns... but when I get jumped by a group of dudes, I completely forget about it and end up dying like a derp. I'm also trying really hard to expand my repertoire of heroes by playing hero-types normally outside of my comfort zone - in this case, melee carries, with Riki, and I'm really inconsistent. Although I will say that I had some amazing plays against a dual-divine-rapier Bounty Hunter. We really shouldn't have been able to hold them off as long as we did. Of course, then I pulled an entirely different kind of derp and let him kill me and get them back and by then he had a THIRD. FFFFFFFFFFFFfffffuuuuccckkk.

It might also be that they're willing to pump in some of their OWN money if they need to. Although, given their initial goal, I really doubt they need to, unless they magnificently increase the scope of the project.

What if, even though it might have won that award, the developers decided to completely trash that design and start from scratch and the new design is even better? Or, more accurately to the situation, what if they completely revamped the visuals, made them utterly beautiful, the best you've ever seen, and wanted to re-enter under that premise?

I think it's only an issue if large portions of the game haven't been thrown out and completely rebuilt - which is what I have been told is the case with Fez. Also keep in mind that Fez previously won best visuals. This year it won grand prize. It didn't win grand prize twice, and it wasn't even in the running for best visuals this year (probably because it previously won). The biggest problem is that IGF allows for unfinished games in the first place. That is the entire reason some games are allowed to enter multiple years in a row. If IGF only allowed finished games, this never would have happened. But... if it only allowed finished games, the winners would be getting money for... what? Their next game? Part of the appeal of winning IGF is to get the funding to make your game even better, right? I dunno. It's not a simple black and white issue. I've also heard they're changing the rules so previous winners can't enter next year. It's an evolving process, and I think they're aware it's not perfect, so I'm not completely pessimistic about any of it. .. oh i've had this sitting here typed for a while before reading the article, and it seems like i'm just repeating what they said WELP

Honestly, the more I see people bitch and moan about his nonclassy attitude, the more I want to support him. I guess that probably makes me a terrible person. EH.

I am not at all apologizing for him, but I really do believe he was not trying to be an asshole. "Japanese games suck. Your game design is stuck in a rut. Get with the times." *pause while audience derp-applauses* "I'M SO SORRY." I don't know what to say other than "you had to be there". It was completely and totally inappropriate in every way, but his tone of voice was that of a jokester-guy, not of a troll. He was speaking his actual opinion, of course, and meant it seriously, but he said it in a jokey way. Honestly the big issue isn't what he said or how he said it - it's who he said it to. The Japanese guy just looked soooo sad as he walked out. Like, what did I do to deserve this, I'm going to kill myself kind of sad. Also, that is both the problem, and also not entirely true. Japanese game design has not evolved much in recent years. But one of the ways in which it HAS "evolved" is in treating the player like a fucking moron. Gone are the days of clever level design that allow us to explore the game mechanics on our own. There are always exceptions, and those exceptions are often great for being exceptions, but exceptions don't make the rules, and in fact, are often ignored by other future games. The same could probably be said of Western games, though, which is where the argument falls apart, although I do think it's more true for Japanese games than it is for Western games. I feel like I play significantly more Western games that give me the freedom to discover things on my own than I do Japanese games that do similar.

I was at the Indie Game: The Movie showing (which was so fucking rad, by the way), and the subsequent panel when Phil Fish said that thing. Oh, man, was it hilarious, and also horrible. That poor Japanese man walked away looking so dejected. I honestly don't think Phil meant to come off as an asshole like he did, but he clearly has some frustrations there and went full-bore brutal, rather than politely critical. He grew up same as (most of) the rest of us, with Japanese games, and I hold similar frustrations with Japanese developers' unwillingness to change. I've similarly blown up on this topic when arguing among friends. Just not to ab Japanese developer's face! Luckily, Jonathan Blow softened the... blow, by being legitimately polite and trying to offer some constructive criticism beyond Fish's "get with the times, you old Japanese people". Not that I'm making excuses for Fish. Dick move, it was. But I do believe he was just being... I don't know. American? (I'm aware he's Canadian.) Some people are just brutally straight-forward when it comes to sharing their opinions. He... he did apologize, though. Sort of. I will also say that he's not ignorant about the industry at all. Just lets his emotions get to him more than he should.

I just landed in San Francisco a few hours ago and I missed hanging out and playing board games with John Romero of social games fame because my flight was three hours later than my friends' flight. What a shame. I think it was implied that it'd be full-frontal. okay i'm sorry that was awful

Might be a half-Native, half-Italian? I'm sure it's not out of the question. After all, Disney's Pocohontas!

I suddenly have the desire for an ancient Aztec setting for Assassin's Creed 'cause that is some of my favorite architectureses. D: Those screenshots have me fucking excited, though. I really need to play AC2. I've had it foreverrrrr.

Me and n0b are assholes and just went Dagon Lion plus Dagon Lina. Before that we went Dagon Viper plus Dagon Tidehunter. Also, last night we were assholes and went a Doombringer Lich lane and I got Phase Boots, Drum of Endurance, and Eul's Scepter on Lich and he got a level 5 Dagon on Doom. It's kind of surprising how much that added speed on Lich upped my survivability factor. Normally I just go Phase Boots for speed, and then get a Mek if I can, and I die all the time. I wouldn't expect speed to help me survive team fights where I'm the first target, but lo and behold.

It actually isn't a bad idea, although perhaps it was poorly implemented. A lot of people don't know what all those numbers mean. Dumbing it down makes it easier for people to know what to buy. A difficult task, to be sure.

I hope you're not implying that you want one guy talking in my left ear and another talking in my right. That shit drives me bonkers!

Here's your first tip: Be decisive when you're in the side shop! 1r1o-sdIVWI

I rarely deviated from using the recommended builds in LoL because I hated the store interface so much. (And also because the recommended builds for same-type champs were always near identical, but that's beside the point.)
-
I actually prefer the Dota 2 store to the LoL store because I can jsut search for any item I'd want and it pops up instantly. Also, the new grid setup is fuckin' boss. I know what all the icons mean, so I don't need the text! And yeah I'd happily teach anyone how to play. n0b and I have introduced more than one dude to the game of Dota, and about half the time they go on to love the game, so I imagine we're not completely terrible at it! I always hate recommending Lich to new players. Yes, he's easily the best introductory hero, but it's so boring to always recommend the same hero when someone asks "where do I start?" Unfortunately, there's not really anyone else. Tidehunter isn't too bad, but Lich is still easier.

Seriously, if you want more variety then you should be playing Dota over LoL.
-
People are more cautious in Dota 2 because the risks are much greater. But that also means the rewards are similarly greater, as you can really destroy the enemy with the right kind of risk. Also, Dota 2 is just much more intense, in general. Early game is much less boring - ganking is a thing that happens more often. Etc. DOTA IS BETTER NYAH NYAH People really exaggerate the whole "carry" thing. Yes, you need a good carry to do well and win. You also need a good support and a good mid ganker. Mid usually ganks, anyway. Not always. Team makeup in Dota is so much more varied, too! You can really mix things up from one game to another.

If you see a Skeleton King and Ursa on the same team, you should check if they're killing Roshan. You can easily get the jump on them and kill them (or even steal the aegis, if you time it right). I don't really know what to tell you other than you're wrong. None of those heroes are overpowered. They all have counters. It's just a matter of knowing what those counters are.
-
Yeah honestly it's just because Dota feels so much more rewarding when I do well. There's also a wider variety of viable builds per individual hero, which on a base level is much more appealing to me than LoL's "all characters of similar archetypes have near identical builds!" sorta mindset. The active items ALSO add a whole other level of Neat. Yeah, it's a billion times more complex, but as a result it's a billion times more rewarding.

oh my god it's a n0b when did this happen OO:

For like fifty games I have stayed consistently 13 wins ahead of losses. I don't know how I do it. D:

Oh is this a thing here how come I never saw it. I might as well drop mine. www.steamcommunity.com/id/twig/ I mostly play Dota 2 these days, but I'd be up for most games I own. Except TF2 'cause I'm worn out with it. But I might anyway.

That implies it's a facade! I quite literally do like every single Zelda game that I have played. The ones I haven't played include: Zelda II, the Oracle games, and Spirit Tracks. I guess Skyward Sword counts as played, although since I intend to go back to it, and I had fun while playing it, I wouldn't say I dislike it. As I already explained so blah blah blah. Also Majora's Mask is easily my favorite because it is Zelda with Whipped Cream and a Cherry on Top.
