Well, I agree! And I guess that's all I have to say about that.

That's the only person anyone likes, if they even like a person.

In between bouts of D3 hardcore stress, I finally beat Torchlight on very hard hardcore, but not before an enchantment shrine ruined the best fucking bow I'd ever had up to that point. (I was playing Vanquisher.) I almost died, but managed to come back and find another, better one later. But goddamnit. At least it wasn't the wizard what did it? Also, Torchlight II is neat. I like the engineer and the outlander. I didn't play it much before my allotted time ran out, though, because I'd rather just wait for the full game. There're a lot of nitpicky issues that I'm hoping are just because the game is still a WIP. I don't remember what any of those issues WERE, now, but at the time they really bugged me!

Well, in my younger years, I loved Blizzard's stories. Starcraft and Warcraft alike. (Despite playing a ton of D2, I never actually followed the story, even once.) I was really into them, and, much to my shame, I even bought some of the novels. But then I went back and played SC1 shortly before SC2 came out. It's kind of... trash. I feel like if Blizzard had the resources back then that they have today... SC1 would've felt very much like SC2? Obviously, I can't say that for sure. But, basically, I think the reason their older games don't seem as bad is because they're a product of their time, and while Blizzard's storytelling resources may have increased exponentially, their storytelling methods have not evolved to really take advantage of the increased resources. I DUNNO. ... I deeeed it! Belial almost killed me. D: My health sphere(?) was empty! But it didn't even trigger my passive (which prevents me from dying and gives me 10% of my health back every 90 seconds), so that's good? Ugh I never want to fight him again. Easily the most annoying of the bosses, just because there's so little space to move around. Although I'm worried about Diablo's trap-'n'-grab. That hurt a lot in Normal, and it was a little more difficult to avoid than I would've hoped.

And every other Blizzard game. Although, at least the older games don't pretend they're something they aren't. I think Blizzard's biggest problem [in regards to the issue currently being discussed] is that they act like their stories are something special. At least, that's the impression I always get when they talk about it. EDIT: In other, more important news, I'm about to fight NM Belial on my HC WD. Initializations. Anyway, I'm scared.

I went to this thing last year, but I only had the expo pass (won it from a raffle in school). Here's some advice for everyone: don't go if you only have the expo pass. You don't get to see any of the cool stuff. The show floor is bullshit. That aside: that video is super neat. U:

I beat Butcher on Nightmare on my HC Witch Doctor! He was kind of a cakewalk. I almost even got the don't-get-hit-by-fire cheesemint, but I screwed up at the last second. Spirit walk wasn't off cooldown fast enough. O woe! Next up: Act 2. Ugheughhugh beliallllll.

TTGL is amazing and I recommend it to everybody. U: The story is dumb but it knows it's dumb and it embraces being dumb to the fullest extent. It's not like Evangelion where it thinks it's actually a good story. (I hate Eva.)

Yes! Irrespective to its quality as a design choice, I can say that, for me, it makes leveling up significantly less interesting. I mean, sure, I get new skills every level. Yay! But I generally get new skills in every game like this (only I have to pick which ones I unlock), plus more. Now I don't get that plus more? Mehhhhh.

I once tripped walking through the stands at a high school football game and whacked the bell of my trumpet (neerrrrd) right into the corner of a stair (can you even make that word singular?). Completely ruined! A huge-ass dent! But it still sounded mostly okay? Adds character!

I feel like you're completely missing the point or we're arguing different interpretations of the phrase "character progression" or something. There is literally no investment in character in this game. It's all in gear. Everybody who levels a class to 10 or 20 or 60 is on the exact same footing, except for gear. It doesn't matter if you can constantly change your skills. In fact, that goes counter to the idea of investment in character. And I'm not even saying I don't like that I can change my skills at any time. I just don't like that Blizzard felt the need to completely sacrifice any sense of character progression to do so. There exists a middle ground that, for whatever reason, they opted to ignore. Also, wait until you get out of normal difficulty. Anybody can experiment with anything in normal and still be at least marginally successful. It is a cakewalk for any class. I went into every single boss apprehensive about my inexperience (as, at the time, I'd never made it past Act 1 with a non-hardcore character), and I never even came close to dying. P.S. Spiders are always awful. Well, as I keep spouting nonstop, it's all about the gear. You probably don't have good gear, despite them all being rares. I know I didn't. Unless you've been investing in the artisans, you likely have a ton of gold. Check out the auction house. You can get some pretty good items for not-too-much gold. When you search, just make sure they have both vitality and intelligence. Doesn't hurt to set the min value for each to 50, either. About 15000-30000 gold for the items you'll be buying, unless things have changes drastically since I last ventured onto the AH.

I don't see how. Every class of the same level is on the same footing at all times, outside of loot. Your character is defined by your loot, rather than by the choices you make in character development, mostly because there is no character development. Sure, you can pick from a set list of skills and a set list of modifiers for those skills that can be changed literally any time you wan, but that's... not what I would consider a good sense of investment in character. Also, if you're not looking at the stats for your items, you, uh, have you been to nightmare mode? You say you're only level 20, so I already know the answer to that question. Maybe it's different when you don't play hardcore, but I worry a LOT about my stats - I know I need a ton of vitality and a not-so-ton of intelligence for health and damage respectively - and not so much about my skills. As a witch doctor, I almost never change my skills unless I've leveled up and gotten that rune that finally makes that skill worthwhile. I have no idea how you could possibly believe that your character in D2 is somehow less important than your character in D3, respective to their gear. Gear is absolutely more important than character in both games, as no matter how perfectly statted/skilled your character is, you still need good gear, but it's significantly moreso in D3. Which is further disappointing due to the gear being far less interesting than it was in D2. Less gems to work with, can't add sockets to gear if I want, no gambling, no set items until late game (actually this last one I'm not so upset about, as who the fuck ever actually completed a set as they were leveling up?)... They even opted to leave out the third artisan that would have added enchanting to the game! ughhhhhhhh

Oh god, playing my hardcore WD, ran into a group of FIRE CHAIN VAMPIRIC BURROWERS on nightmare. You know burrowers. Those little annoying fuckers who run super fast and... burrow underground only to appear in a seemingly random spot moments later? FIRE. CHAIN. But that's not the problem. I was ever-so-slowly whittling away at their health pools. The problem was when I lost connection to the server. I panicked a bit, it's true. Fortunately, I didn't die. Logged back into ol' Twubby and was still alive. But, yeah, I dunno if I'll play again for a while after that scare. D:

I mean, I'm still having a lot of fun, right? It's a very well-made product. It's just a shame it's held back (in my opinion) by some of the wacky design choices Blizzard has made.
-
In a tirade earlier today, a friend of mine said, "You don't have characters in Diablo III, you have equipment." My gut reaction was to disagree, but it's pretty much true. Once you get past the class selection screen, you're pretty much done customizing your character, especially since you can literally change your skills any time you want, as long as they're not on cooldown.
-
A quick Google search (very quick, so it's probably not entirely accurate) implies that sets only come from crafting? EDIT: Partially true, it looks like. Up until you hit max level (so, I assume, Inferno), you can only get the items via crafting. At that point, they'll start actually dropping for you.
-
I think I might have liked that more? I like getting loot that is neat for more reasons than just the stats. Although I've only thus far played up to mid-NM-act1, so maybe once you get to inferno the gear is more interesting? Speaking of gear, stop fucking giving me voodoo masks with strength, erguhruegh. Also NM is starting to properly scare the shit out of me. I don't think I'm going to survive much longer. D: HELP.

Yeah, if I hadn't already found that, I actually would outright hate the game.

I actually do like the skill system itself, I just don't like how I'm limited to so few of them. If I could just have two more slots, I'd have all of the skills I want. I especially don't like having to unlock skill slots. Ughhh. And I'm aware that's a stupid thing to complain about. If I weren't so used to have it all available to me all the time, like in other games of its ilk, it probably wouldn't even occur to me to be upset. I had the same problem when I went from WoW to Guild Wars. They're trying to do different things, but I'm so used to the one way of doing it that the other makes me angry. That aside, however, I do miss what you're talking about quite a bit. If I want to beef up my barbarian's leap, let me. I want... MORE CUSTOMIZATION. There aren't enough choices in this game. That's its biggest problem, in my eyes. I don't necessarily care about stat points per level, as I mentioned in an earlier post, but I like the talent tree system in these kinds of games. Mrrp.

Twig#1359 Although I'm pretty much playing hardcore only right now, and once I die, I'll probably take a week-long (AT LEAST) break.

I have literally no issue with respeccing. It's stupid to have to completely reroll a character because you want to change one or two skillpoints. That is something I will never, ever miss from Diablo 2. But I miss a whole hell of a lot more ELSE. Companions that I can take with me always. More than four players. Being able to use more than six skills at a time (perfect for the 360 controller? nyeh heh heh). The Horadric cube. Also, while I sort of miss stat point customization, I also sort of don't. I never liked it. Leave that to the loot part of the game. It does sort of prohibit experimentation with nutso builtds, but not a whole lot. In a way, I feel like a bit of an ass for complaining about all of the changes, as when SC2 came out, I was complaining about the complete LACK of changes... But these changes are terrible! Except they're not really completely terrible. Some of them are oversimplification bullshit, but there's more than enough good in the game that I can get used to said bullshit. I mean, I just spent all day playing hardcore witch doctor before calling it quits after beating NM Leoric. I may have a problem. I'm worried about Belial more than anything up to him, but Pudge might pose a problem. I still don't see myself playing this much once TL2 comes out, though (assuming TL2 is actually good). ): EDIT: New forum gives me a non-avatar! BURN IT WITH FIRE. (But yay working edit button!)

That is slightly less lame.
-
oh my god i want to play resonance of fate now
-
Someone tell me how many players this supports, 'cause Diablo 3 only supports four and that is super lame. ):
-
I accidentally caved in and bought it and I'm reminded of how utterly dull and boring these kind of games are at low level when you're not playing hardcore, even in multiplayer. Moreso, now that it's limited to only four. ): Oh, and Blizzard's storytelling is as wonderful as ever.
