There are religions that don't hold to these concepts. Although, one could easily argue that those are more philosophies than they are religions. At any rate, the idea of a "spirit" of a human being holds a lot of water with people. I think that's why people choose to continue to believe, more than anything else. They don't want to believe they're just some random assortment of atoms that just happens to work in exactly the way they work. It's not a big step from there to a loss of free will. That's big. Who wants to live in a world where everything they do is predetermined? It is sort of depressing! Religion makes people feel better. ORGANIZED religion can do some really shitty things sometimes, but I don't think you can hold that against the individual that chooses to believe in a magical paradise after death. I choose to believe a lot of things differently from other people. I have more than one friend who is a devout Christian. I'm well aware I think less of them for it. It's impossible not to. How could they believe in some magical candy land in the sky after death? That said, I don't hold it against them, either. It is their choice, and if it makes them happier, then by all means. As long as they don't try to force their beliefs on me, I will let them be, no matter how completely and utterly wrong they are. But I absolutely will hold it against someone with real power over me and mine to use their religious beliefs to justify their actions. Fuck you, get out of my country. Whether or not that's what this Senator Pryor has done, I do not know. But there are plenty of people in power who are guilty of this.

what in the darn-heck happened in here I avoid posting in these kinds of threads except for when I can avoid actually talking about the topic. Mostly because I feel like a lot of the stuff that triggers an anti-bigotry tirade is, often enough, a joke - and should be taken as such. There are plenty of ways in which people of different sexes, races, creeds are not equal, but it always pisses me right the fuck off when people get angry at jokes and assume there's some hateful intent behind them. But then I come from the school of thought that says, "You have the right to be offended by my joke, but you don't have the right to stop me from making that joke." Obviously, not everything is a joke! But it is not uncommon. This isn't really relevant to anything. It's just something I've been not saying for a while for fear of offending someone, and I finally felt like saying it. U: Obviously I'm biased, because I'm not a woman, but I feel like what I'm talking about happens far more often with feminists than it does any other anti-bigotry group? EH. It sucks being the stereotypical, middle-class, white male when trying to talk about this sort of thing. Nobody ever picks on the white dude! Although, when I was young, there were a bunch of black kids in my neighborhood who, I think, picked on me just for being white (or, at least, "different" from them)! Sometimes they'd run up to my house late at night and knock on my window really hard before running away. Other times they'd chase me down the street with snowballs, calling me horrible names like "Jimbo" and "Bill Nye". (I am not making this up. It made me laugh then, and it makes me laugh even more, now. They really did call me Bill Nye, as if that should hurt my feelings.) Well anyway yeah so that's me and feminism (???).

I have been interested in this game for a while but have heard lots of bug reports. I'll probably get it eventually, anyway. Especially since I know co-op is in the works (or is already out?).

I know that a while ago I got a message pop up that said action had been taken against someone I reported. Only happened once, though. -

For me, it is just a matter of how much I enjoy a game. When TF2's store went up, I had no qualms about spending a few bucks here and there because I have played it for a thousand hours over the years. I've already almost reached that point with Dota 2. What! -

New meta, everybody roam! Friend DC'd during character select, came back to alchemist. Decided to roam. Other friend decided to follow suit as Dragon Knight. I was mid Viper. Got enemy Pudge immediately, no problem. Eventually I die and Alch takes over mid. We swapped every time somebody died. Ultimate strategy. Super destroy! Enemy team loses. -

Those are not bad characters. Try Alchemist! -
Welp, I made it to act 1 of inferno! And then my wizard died. I overestimated my ability to survive things and pushed too far. Now I think it's time to move on to other games, because I have a ton. It's kind of a relief. I'll come back to it some day. Maybe.

I missed the game 'cause I was playing Diablo and then I went to play basketball (and one of the players thought he was a train and tackled me, ow my knee (but it's fine (probably))). Uh my point is, don't stop asking me. U: -
4GB is absolutely enormous for a console, no matter how long its been since the last new console. That said, I wish it would happen. RAM is kind of a bottleneck in a lot of ways. Not usually the main bottleneck, but still.

I never had many problems with Brazilians in LoL, although I'm well aware of the stereotype. Had a couple huehuehues directed at me, but it didn't happen too often. However, I've had an abundance of problems with Russians in Dota 2 (in NA). "NOOBA NOOBA FUCKIN NOOBA" over the mic. That kinda shit. It's very rare that a Russian isn't a complete dickhead. I've run into a few friendlies, but... only a few. Also, I should mention that these encounters have decreased as time has gone on. Maybe they stopped playing on NA servers. I don't know. I also haven't run into many (if any?) Brazilians in Dota 2. At the very least, they don't advertise themselves as Brazilian. -

I think it's more, "Jesus Christ this shit is hard and takes a lot of hard work and dealing with hard people and also it's hard." Not to trivialize the movie or anything, because I quite liked it. It is a movie I would like to show my family, because I just don't think they GET why it is I want to make video games. If the movie does nothing else, it explains that quite well - mostly through Team Meat's comments once their game is finished. Also, granted, at the GDC panel, the creators of the film admitted that they picked the best stories out of all the people they filmed, and decided to focus on Team Meat, Phil Fish, and Jonathan Blow because they made for a better movie. So, basically, this is the extreme end of Shit, and it's not always as... melodramatic as the movie might make it seem.
-
Haha oh man I love that that exists.
-
Haha yes that was another one of my problems. THE NAMES. Except for Richard. Zed is almost okay until you learn his full name.
-
I don't remember that many people dying. Or at least, not many of the characters actually important to the story as more than a plot device.

I can understand hating something because it's preachy. For some reason, a couple years ago, I decided to force Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series down my throat. On a friend's recommendation, I read the first book, and thought it was... okay. I went on to read the rest, and discovered it was just some preachy "people gotta stand up for themselves or they aren't worth saving" gibberish the entire goddamn time like EIGHTY THOUSAND BOOKS OF IT or that's just what it seemed like at the time. Otherwise, it would've been a mediocre, flawed, but fun ride through yet another fantasy world. There were other enormous problems, too, (including preachiness of other philosophies) but that's pretty much all I remember at this point. I still have yet to watch or read Starship Troopers!

There is literally no reason to remake LttP. I hope they realize that it's still perfectly playable today. MM is not. That's why MM deserves the remake! Harrumph. -
It actually kind of motivated me when I saw it at GDC, although I don't really know why, because it is definitely depressing.

The scene clearly implies that something like that would have happened if Lara didn't fight back, but I didn't find it offensive in any way other than being stereotypical. Outside of the context of Rosenberg's comments, I don't think anyone aside from super extremists would have been bothered by its existence. Now, I'm temporarily ignoring the rape thing! At the risk of sounding like a creep or sounding like I'm defending a creep, for some people, there is a certain allure in a dangerous, dirty, grim, oh-god-so-dark-it-hurts member of the opposite sex. It's not uncommon for both men and women to feel attracted to someone like that. Okay but that said... The rest of his words are kind of weird. It occurred to me while writing the above paragraph that I rarely, if ever, get attached to my avatar in a video game, beyond a "hey this is me i made these choices i am so neat" capacity. People my avatar meets, sure, all the time. Like in The Walking Dead, which I love, I don't necessarily feel much emotional attachment to Lee, but all of the people around him evoke plenty of reactions from me. So, when Ron guy says they're trying to make Lara into this character that the player cares about and wants to protect... THAT'S the weird part for me. Just the idea of it. But maybe I'm weird.

I uh don't think it's completely out of the question for someone to overcome some Serious Shit and decide that they want to keep doing that Serious Shit (rape notwithstanding) for Reasons.
