The Idle Thumbs Lords Management Consortium - Dota 2, LoL, other Lords Managers unite
Twig replied to Sean's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Neither Drow nor Skeleton King are good heroes to start with! Stop it! Last hitting and the lane dynamics that result from it are of the hardest things to learn! You actually need items to do well. That's hard. Having less skills doesn't make those two heroes easier. ): -
Yeah it seems like that's going to be my only choice. Hang out in a hotel/hostel for a bit until I find a place to live for real.
-
Did that years ago!

UGH it was a joke calm down

If people are weak enough to let some arbitrary point value pressure them into doing otherwise completely optional shit they don't enjoy, then they deserve it! As an aside, the TF2 example sucks just because they tie actual in-game rewards to completing arbitrary, sometimes anti-team goals.

Both times I've tried Naga I've had the unfortunate experience of perfectly setting up a fight, but then we have no team fight after that to take advantage. She's so worthless on the wrong team. ): -
Me and a buddy have long fantasized about a dynamic achievement system that somehow magically acknowledges that you just did some CRAZY SHIT without being actually baked into the game. Oh, if only fantasy were reality.

I like pointless stat-tracking? I'm not sure how I can expand from there.

Holy fuck he's weird. -
I think the reason I like achievements is the same reason I like ridiculously detailed stat-tracking. If Dota 2 tracked how many trees I destroyed on each hero I played, I would love it, even though it's a completely meaningless number. I enjoy having that acknowledgement and record of what I've done. Achievements are just an extension of that desire, for me. U:

I've found a whole bunch so far, but most of them want to meet with me before letting me be their roommate (entirely understandable!). Unfortunately, I won't be arriving in the city until the day I want to move in. I mean, I can always stay at a hotel or something while looking, but that's less than ideal. And expensive.

Maaaan, finding an apartment is the worst. Someone do it for me. ):

Man, those are the lamest of lames! "Here's an achievement for doing something you'd probably do anyway." BORING. I'm with Mike. The best ones are those that ask you to do something you wouldn't normally do.

I'd be fine with a surrender option if it had to be completely unanimous. Actually that does happen, a lot. I've been guilty of it, myself. X: I try not to do it for more than one fountain dive, though, or I at least wait until all the barracks are down. But I've definitely been up against teams before that will literally avoid attacking the towers because they're stomping so hard they just want to camp the fountain for ten minutes. -
It's also bugged and straight up won't award 'em sometimes. C'est la vie.

Yeah, that's another thing. It's much harder to make a comeback in LoL. Too, there's only one strategy. It's why the surrender feature is so necessary in LoL, but I don't lament its absence quite as much in Dota. -

I think what nj00s might be getting at is that the game is an unbalanced wreck. Sure, skill still comes into it, but part of that "skill" is knowing what's overpowered and what isn't.* Moreover, in the time I played, some heroes went from the most powerful beings on the face of the earth to the trashiest trash and back again. It's like the developers respond to people's bitching without actually giving it any thought. And speaking personally, I just find LoL comp play completely boring to watch. It's just so dulllllllllllllll. *The same can sort of be said for Dota. There are a few heroes that are complete shit. But MOST heroes have their place on the proper team, and more importantly, there's much more diversity in team makeup. -

No it's not! You should be ashamed for him! I mean I am just joking around. I think Dota 2 is superior in nearly every way, but I don't really care if someone likes one or the other. Key phrase in the previous statement is "I think". If I really gave a shit, I would write a goddamn essay about why I think LoL is the inferior experience. (I actually might, anyway, because I recently had a friend ask me about this, and after I explained a bit, he asked me to write it out in more detail. Hee.) U:! -

But Dota is way more competitive so it'll win. RIGHT?? In terms of mechanics, LoL is more accessible (although not really by much - the big hurdles are still there, it's just the little stuff that makes Dota less accessible), but in terms of the bullshit hoops you have to leap through to unlock everything, it's godawful. But I guess some people like that sort of thing. One of my classmates said to me, "I prefer having to unlock champions because it means I don't have to choose between all of them at once." I guess I can understand the reasoning behind that... it is less intimidating. But ew! I hated it when I played LoL and I hate it now. -
Woohoo, I got the job!! I start in 19 days. D: D: Now I have to find a place to stay and get ready to move. Oh god I'm screwed.
-
Well, apparently there's just one guy they need to talk to, but he's always super busy in meetings or something? I don't know. HOPEFULLY I FIND OUT TODAY SO I CAN REJOICE OR MOVE ON.
-
Wednesday after interview: "We'll probably let you know Friday, Monday at the absolute latest, but probably Friday." Friday: "Still talking. Monday it is." Monday: "Just a little longer. Tomorrow for sure." Today: "I might call you after dinner to let you know. Tomorrow, otherwise." HNNNNNNNNNNGH. I JUST WANT TO KNOW, AT THIS POINT. I was pretty optimistic at first. The interview went decently well, I think. A few fumbles, but for the five hours I was there, I knew what I was talking about at least 90% of the time. But it's taking so long. I'm getting all doubtful. ):

Facial animations in particular were awful in that one. But I'm just being nitpicky. I'm still impressed. -

Definitely impressive when compared to the stuff that people made before, but man those animations are stiff.
