Heh. I have Pushmo, but haven't yet played it. I think I plan to get Kid Icarus. The rest of those aren't really my thing, although Kingdom Hearts would have been a long while ago. When I was still into that sort of thing.

My thoughts exactly.

! I never played the original, but I really want to. My friends wouldn't stop raving about it at that time. Well, one friend in particular, but his taste is generally something I trust. A sequel would be rad. Oh man I just realized that I can start buying 3DS games again now that I have an income. This is not a good thing to realize. I've already got so much debt to pay offffff ahhhhhhh. Hey, besides NSMB2, what would be your top recommendation for 3DS? I already have OoT3D, Super Mario 3D Land, Star Fox. And a few DD titles. I realize this is a question probably already answered, so I'm about to reread (i.e., skim) the thread. U:

That sounds horrible. I don't really mean to be That Guy, but man I'm liking my new job. It feels good to 1) be done with school and 2) not sit around on my ass all day at home doing literally nothing constructive. Everyone here is pretty awesome and friendly. I'm being asked to do legitimate work (even if it is small-scale for now, it's stuff that's actually making it into the final product), unlike my previous work experiences (both internships, one of which was in Japan). They don't take shit too seriously. They know how to have fun even while working, again unlike my previous work experiences. Everyone seems legitimately into their work. It's great! Although I continue to worry that I will prove myself unworthy somehow and get fired.

The Idle Thumbs Lords Management Consortium - Dota 2, LoL, other Lords Managers unite
Twig replied to Sean's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Someone a while back said they were jealous of my skills because I posts videos of me doing well. But those are few and far between. The times when I do poorly far outnumber the times when I do well. I just don't tend to record them because I either forget to, or when I do, they aren't as entertaining as I thought. Anyway, this one still makes me laugh so I thought I'd post it. U: -

Idle Thumbs 71: Nothing's as Good as Ya Eat 'Em

Oh look it's this old argument. -
I was informed just as voting ended that 1000 Kittens was an option. Why or how evolution won over that is beyond me.

I felt the same way. -
Heh. Yeah, I'd never suggest such a thing. I already hate that TF2 is like that, but at least the whole game is built around it. If it had happened that way in Dota 2, I honestly don't think I'd be playing it... It's a game that lives or dies by its balance. It's by no means perfectly balanced, but it is remarkably so, considering how many elements there are to the game. Introducing stat-affecting items behind a paywall? Yeah, no. What I'm trying to say, incredibly long-windedly, is I understand what you mean when you say pay-to-win would break the game.
-
I don't think your last assertion is necessarily true. I always thought I'd hate the Lords Management genre (I didn't like Dota at all the first time I played it years and years ago), but then, because League was free, my friends were able to talk me into trying it. And now Dota 2 has usurped TF2 as my most-played game... Also, I'm entirely nonserious about CS (it's the only way I can have fun because I fucking hate the game), but I still enjoy the game. Also also, zombie mode? Gun-game? Neither of those are super-serious modes. Which kind of makes me think... cosmetic items would work in those modes, just because they're inherently less, uh, hardcore? Hmm.

I'm confused. We were talking about cosmetic items. Or were you just bringing up a new thing? U:

Idle Thumbs 71: Nothing's as Good as Ya Eat 'Em
Twig replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
If nothing else, I guess was just confused by the context of the image in relation to the post Wiki Brown responded to. At the time, it definitely seemed to imply that BOOBS means lack of interesting characters. At any rate, everything you say here is true. I disagree with none of it and, in fact, have frequently come to similar conclusions on my own! To be honest, I don't know why I say I have no interest. On paper, it seems like the kind of game I would love. I think it's just the pure MILITARY factor that turns me off? I very rarely find that theme interesting in any facet. But DayZ appeals to for a variety of reasons. I don't even think I need the zombies. Just a post-apocalyptic setting with similar mechanics would be good for me. I have no idea what I'm actually trying to say. Video games. Heh, fair enough. Can't really disagree with that logic. -

I have literally zero interesting in Arma proper, unfortunately. ): Right, but it's obvious in an incredibly overt way. The lack of face is what takes it from sexualization for the sake of sexualization to humorous. At least, for me. No idea period, or no idea in the context of your statement? That paragraph is in the context of your post responding to the post prior. While "insane" is hardly synonymous with "strong", my point was that the existence of BOOBS (caps means in-your-face) doesn't negate the existence of legit characters. Not that I'd ever say Borderlands is a good example of a game with legit characters! -

I have no objection with an objection to a picture of a woman that is deliberately cropped to identify her entirely by way of her chest. I have an objection to using that as proof that there are a lack of strong female characters. But as I said, I don't think Wiki Brown was being entirely 100% serious, either, which is the only reason I responded in that way. I might be wrong. Maybe he was being entirely serious. In which case, I've now explained my position as well. -

Twig replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Well, I was making a stupid reactionary joke. I even originally had a line or two explaining this, but didn't feel it was necessary. If I had an "actual point" it was explained in the following paragraph. Pretty clearly, I think, even reading it now in the context of your abhorrence at my existence. But seriously, it was just a stupid thing. I was also working under the assumption that Wiki Brown's post was partly in jest. Now that you've forced me to spend a million years thinking about it, though, I guess I'd expand on the stupid thing by saying that strong female characters and sexualization are not mutually exclusive. -
True, they do like to experiment, but doing the bog-standard approach they did for years isn't really much of an experiment. Iunno.

I hope the guy who breaks the center is someone who never paid a penny. Nothing would be better. And, it seems likely. No doubt the number of people chipping away will increase by an order of magnitude as the task nears completion.

It's really weird that they're hiding CS behind a paywall, after the clear success of TF2 and Dota 2. It has no single-player elements, so... I'm not sure why? It might be because they have no intention of supporting it as heavily as those other two games. Also, I feel like cosmetic items would be more out of place in CS than most multiplayer games. It has such a serious overtone. Even Dota 2 is just a super ridiculous mash-up of thousands of fantasy tropes that don't really fit together but somehow actually do, so the ridiculous outfits kind of work. How do you sell hat in CS? I mean, at least they're not going the non-Valve approach to DLC, of hiding maps and actual game content behind a paywall. But, even still, it is really weird. I have no idea what I'm saying. That was a ramble.

Idle Thumbs 71: Nothing's as Good as Ya Eat 'Em
Twig replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Oh no boobs women are objects ahhhh oh god help me the boobs they burn! BUUUUURN. Actually, to be honest, some of the Main Dudes in Borderlands were not Dudes at all, IIRC? Like, the scientist lady? I don't remember her being sexualized even a little. Just insane? Man, it's been a long time since I played it. I wish I had a better memory, but basically what I'm trying to say is I definitely didn't come away from Borderlands wanting to see every character in that game IN THE BUFF. Except the berserker. And every other shirtless guy, which was, like, all of them except the army dudes. Also, I find the fact that women in DayZ can't wear all the armor kind of hilarious. It's clearly a technical constraint, and not a design one, but it results in this sort of "damsel in distress" environment where all the ladies need protected. I am growing ever tempted to just get ARMA II so I don't have to wait for the standalone version. I really want to play it now. I think I'll probably give in when my paycheck comes in. -
Yeah it's only a matter of time before something like that exists. Possibly multiple somethings.

Although I'll never participate, I find this thing kind of incredibly fascinating. Probably for the same reasons Molyneux finds it fascinating.

Yeah Japan is an incredibly misogynistic culture, in my experience (which admittedly was only six months long). So there's that. -

It entirely depends on who you're talking to. I call myself a gamer and I have a Wii (although I mostly play PC and never touch it (but I could never sell it because I love Nintendo)). Anyway, I don't give a rat's iPhone if an exclusively-mobile games player calls themselves a gamer. It's entirely objectively accurate. For me, the word is infinitely more about self-identification than it is about groupthink or whatever. But then I feel that way about most things, and I'm fully aware that I don't take this shit nearly as seriously as a lot of people. I watch movies, but I wouldn't call myself a movie-watcher, because movies don't define me. Gaming does.
