  1. What, for real? That's... that's kind of great. I think? Are you sure. Are you just pulling my leg.
  2. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

Right. That's why I was initially confused by what Pony was talking about.
  3. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

You can't be seen, either. You literally can't alert any guards. At least, according to the description. That doesn't mean alarms, because I never set off any alarms, but I still didn't get it for the first level. And I'm assuming that's what that checkbox at the end of a level means.
  4. I have totally seen rats eat unconscious dudes in Dishonored! In the the first level totally ate a dude! He wasn't dead. I had left him snoring.

The "ghost" achievement is simply "don't kill, don't get seen", which the game definitely is designed for. You seem to be mistaking "I don't like it" with "The game wasn't made for it".

Maybe he is saying that, before now, he never engaged an enemy period. He tried to make it through everything without touching an enemy, except for targets. I can't really think of any other way to interpret that quote. ...That might be an interesting playthrough, too, though. Hmm. I'll have to think about that one.

Yeah, the quality is shit, even at superfast connection, but it gets exponentially MORE shit the slower your connection gets. The latter is understandable, but the former sucks. It also depends on what you're watching, though. Some things I've watched have looked really good for no reason whatsoever.

I'm doing it and loving it. It's totally designed for it.
  9. Steam Greenlight

I have a pretty decent idea what that means, and I have literally no idea how to model a sphere. (Although I'm sure it'd be pretty simple.) I think that has more to do with physics engine than it does with 3D modeling, although they can be pretty tightly linked. (Soft-body meshes means you treat the model, and its mesh, sort of like gelatin. Ropes means... well, ropes. Much closer to cloth physics (i.e., physics with constraints) than to bouncy, jiggly things. I'm only guessing, though. There's probably something I'm missing.)
  10. Life

Yeah the HD never really actually gets to HD, but it also is dependent on your connection. It'll dynamically change quality based on the bandwidth you have available.

And as much as I'm enjoying the game as I'm playing it now, seeing all the gifs posted here and elsewhere definitely makes me want to do a second, completely balls-to-the-wall lethal run.

I don't know from story (it's interesting enough for a vidja gam, I s'pose, and there's nothing outright offensive, so far), but I am probably the worst person: I've played for like six hours, I think, and only just beat the first level. I'm on very hard, going for nonlethal, no alarms (turns out that doesn't mean no detection, though, which is what I thought the goal was... c'est la vie), AND I've turned off objective markers. Am I doing this right? I know I'm slow. Probably the slowest. I DON'T CARE. It's weird, though. I've never really been the type of guy who can just turn off objective markers. I made a conscious, enforced decision to Just Do It! this time and see what happens. I think it was the right decision. The only time I regretted it was when they asked me to take that girl's uncle to a "safe place". What the fuck does that mean? I turned on the objective marker for the purpose of finding out what specific spot they meant. Turns out it was a dumpster... Well, okay, whatever. Everything else, though, I've done sans markers. I love just watching the enemy movement patterns for like five minutes. It's great. U: Honestly, I'm not sure I even give a shit about the story. I'm in this entirely for the gameplay.

Well, I don't really mean completely worthless. But comparatively speaking. Blink is super fast and can get you almost anywhere (as far as I've played). EDIT: Although speed isn't necessarily required for freedom of movement, as evidenced by Assassin's Creed. LET ME REPHRASE. I'm a huge proponent of FAST freedom of movement, and blink yadda yadadadadddd. It's not right for every game, but it works really, really well for this one.
  14. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

I feel like a fucking badass with blink, and I'm playing on Very Hard, and I have plenty of trouble if I'm not careful. But then I'm also going complete no-kill, no-alarm. But then I'm a huge proponent of freedom of movement, and without blink, Dishonored sucks at freedom of movement. This is my favorite game in a long while.
  15. Saints Row is a parody of Video Games, plain and simple. It's just very, very, very blatant about it, so that it doesn't really feel like a parody, and feels more like it's being insane for the sake of being insane. Well, it probably is doing it for the sake most of the time. But there're definitely plenty of mockery-nods to Video Games in general.
  16. I fully embrace the trend that is taking the lessons learned in the past couple decades of video game development and applying those lessons to gameplay that doesn't necessarily exist to the same degree it did back then.

Thanks for the feedback! It's kind of frustrating 'cause when I listened back to it later, there was a lot more stuff I wanted to mention, but we never got around to it. And yes, we're horrible at intros. We tried not to say "are games art", though. We were more going for "does it matter" or, more specifically, "which parts of the game do we want to talk about in this context", I think. Just defining the topic for ourselves, rather than defining art for the rest of the world.
  18. The Walking Dead

I finally played episode three a few days ago: Regarding BIG SHIT: I probably won't get around to episode four until next week. ):
  19. I think there's some kind of console command to see something like that, but I'm not sure if it's a cone, or just a general range indicator in the direction you're pointing with your cursor.
  20. Welllll, okay. Tiny, to be fair, does MASSIVE nuke damage, if he knows how to do the combo. In a situation like that... Jakiro doesn't really need to do damage. Especially against a squishy lane. That said, Jak is max boss, and he'd be way more effective, even with a Tiny, if he could do more than just stun.
  21. Depending on the lane, you max either nuke or passive first. Nuke if you want to kill, passive if you want to push. Passive destroys towers. You definitely don't max ice, unless you're having huge amounts of trouble. You get one point in it, early, though. I get it first level, and then max Q, generally. The nuke guarantees kills. Especially once leveled up. The stun doesn't.

I love you. I am perpetually frustrated at people who refuse to acknowledge that there is more than one way to skin a cat, as it were. I've actually not really been following opinions about this game. I just wanted to agree with you, in a roundabout way. I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE how people are beating this game in four hours. I mean, I guess I do, but why would you WANT to? I spent two hours on the "tutorial" (up to meeting the Upgrade Man) alone. I'm so excited to continue playing tonight. Lately I've been feeling a bit weird about playing Video Games, in that I want to do it, but nothing's really pulling me in, besides Dota 2 and DayZ. This is doing it for me. This is doing it for me hard.

We decided to try something different from usual with our podcast The Monopod. We set up an actual topic - artistic intent (I know, art, games, groan, but I think it turned out okay and sorta different from the usual fare maybe?) instead of just rambling. I think I like it better. We still suck at intros and outros - we still really suck at intros and outros - but it gives us a bit more structure. Tangents still exist, but we try to reel it in a bit more? I dunno. http://www.monopodcast.com/2012/10/06/the-monopod-12-we-are-all-psychopaths/ If you're at all interested, give it a listen and critique it. Thanks! If anyone ever gets tired of me posting this multiple times in the thread, let me know and I'll stop. I know it ain't much compared to the good video game podcasts that already exist. X:
