Yeah the exact sequence of events is sorta... difficult to discern. A lot happened pretty quickly pretty early on. Suffice it to say, it was all bad. \:

Yes Adam Baldwin somehow found out about the crazy ex-boyfriend's manifesto and labelled it GamerGate in a single tweet, which they used for a while for the more obviously evil acts until they tried to be "discrete" after the term "GamerGate" was banned from some websites. They switched to using the 5 Guys restaurant chain as code, although it was never not obvious to anyone paying attention. Meanwhile "GamerGate" became a smokescreen for recruiting more shitheads, but also some people who were truly ignorant. It's pretty easy to dismiss GG people as fools, but they've actually been pretty clever (well, at least early on) about disguising what it was actually about - especially when directed at people who aren't necessarily in the know about everything. The only thing worse than a stupid asshole is a smart one.

They used that burger chain as code to refer to the five guys they claimed Zoe slept with for favors. Or, more accurately, to refer to the whole thing. I followed GG very closely for half a year before I realized what it was doing to me and I had to stop.

David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event

hahah wow damn -
It's very much watch doggy. Also it's the best. It's definitely a not-quite-dystopian surveillance state almost cyberpunk (sans the typical aesthetic) type of show. Right up my alley!

Third season's on Netflix?? Awesome. The first two seasons were really good. Much better than people led me to believe! Even the first season! I've been binging Person of Interest because of Rob talking about it on Idle Weekend (it'd been on my list for a while, but he pushed me over the edge). Man it's so good.

They have a proven history of manipulating facts and abusing coincidences. But I guess this time they didn't for sure absolutely 100%!!!! Whatever I regret trying to prevent a most-likely false accusation from gaining ground. Do what you want. Like I said, I don't think the argument is even necessarily worth having. But false accusations gross me the fuck out. I voiced my thoughts, now I'm out. I left slack to avoid this kind of stress so why was I stupid enough to engage here?!

now hold on tho "fun guys" is not an unfunny joke it's a pun well you can argue puns are unfunny jokes but i'll die on this hill so don't bother (also, again, five guys were arrested in watergate too - gamergate made these connections intentionally) either way false accusations don't sit well with me

Idle Weekend June 24, 2016: 2016 Halftime Show
Twig replied to Chris's topic in Idle Weekend Episodes
There was that discussion a few (or more?) episodes ago about instinctual anger directed at people hatin' on Faves. This is me every time Danielle mentions The Witness!!!! grumble grumble one of my favorite games in so many years grumble -
For what it's worth, Nintendo has come out and said the "Gamergate reference" is not, in fact, a "Gamergate reference". I don't blame Zoe in the slightest for reacting the way she did; my initial reaction was to wonder why Nintendo would do something so stupid, and my life wasn't the one ruined by this shit. The recent ugliness with Alison Rapp sure didn't help, though that's whole other bucket o' worms that, well... To be honest, I hesitate to even make this correction, because I believe it's not a discussion worth having. Regardless of intent, it was a mistake. I think so, anyway. At best, it was ignorant, and at worst, it was dismissive of the more recent incident as worthy of consideration. I hope they rewrite the scene with a different approach, if for no other reason than to admit that they fucked up. What'd normally be a dumb and cute reference to Watergate is instead... not, at all. It ain't a good look... But I also don't think it's fair to let a false accusation sit unaddressed. The two screenshots oft in question are apparently many lines apart and Nintendo has also made "Fun Guy" puns many times in previous games, including I believe (though am not 100% certain of) associated with the number five (there were also five arrests in Watergate - I don't think it's out of the question to believe that GG fuckos jumped on this similarity for a reason), among other coincidences, etc. There is the possibility that they're just trying to save face here, but it's so very very very unlike Nintendo to directly or even indirectly associate themselves with things like this that I find it hard to even allow that possibility. They frustrate me so often with their unwillingness to engage with the shittier "politics" of the industry, but in this case it kinda works in their favor.

I think if there's one thing we can take away from all of this, it's that humanity was a mistake.

Saw a newsclip earlier this morning where Farage (post-exit) said NHS would not receive any new funds as a result of the exit. ??

The whole thing makes me very, very sad. All of the economic arguments aside, which from my limited knowledge seem to mostly be based in horseshit anyway??, but all of those completely aside - the whole symbolic message of this vote is "fuck immigrants we don't want to help people", in a time when the world should be coming together more and more, it's like we're regressing our ancestors' insularity instead of opening up the way we should. This ain't the medieval times! We're not empires anymore, we're all on this planet together. Doesn't give me much hope when it comes to Trump. and that's my emotional reaction

Coincidentally! Due to my incredible obsession with Fictional Podcasts, I was briefly fantasizing about the idea of doing recorded readings for submissions earlier today. Dunno if it's a good idea, but maybe it'd be fun if enough people are up for it. Audioshortstoryandorpoetrycollections.

I forgot what the current game under discussion was and in skimming over the latest post was like "when did they make a dragonforce game... WHY did they make a dragonforce game?!" I'm either sad or happy my immediate interpretation was not correct. Can't decide, yet.
