  1. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Diddy is the most acceptable of the inbred Kong family (mostly 'cause he's fun to play as), but I'd still rather even he not exist ever again EVER.
  2. Life

Haha, I vaguely remember posting in here last night. Well, I'm glad I didn't say anything too weird! Or untrue, I guess! Here's to THE FUTURE.
  3. Life

Nonono I mean I'm lonely purely in the romantic sense. Friends-wise, I'm golden! I'm quite happy. Also I wasn't actually considering moving elsewhere. I've got a good job, awesome friends, etc. There are a few places I would jump at the chance to work, but two of them are in San Francisco, so, hey! Also also I'm still way drunk so not regretting anything YET!!! I'm gonna go hiking with one friend on Sunday. Maybe two, although the second guy probably won't join us. Who knows. Ahh, I love hiking but haven't gone in a whileeee. It's just... man I wish I had someone SPECIAL.
  4. Life

I'm SORTA drunk so I apologize for everything that follows. Except for the good parts. Tegan, I wish I had as much courage as you have. The fact that you went through with all this shit despite previous knowledge of bullshititude from your mother, man, major props. I dunno if I'd have been able to do that. In fact, I'm almost certain I couldn't have. I'm a straight white dude, really tall, kinda fat, TOTALLY COMPLETELY AVERAGE AMERICAN and goddamnit I am sad and lonely and fuck. I moved to San Francisco over half a year ago and it was great. Just like when I originally moved to Redmond, Washington. Just like when I lived in Japan for six months. I love, love, love just moving to a new place and being forced to Make New Friends. Which is weird, 'cause I'm socially awkward as fuck and can't handle new things, but it's so great to do it anyway. Then I get complacent with my life. It becomes sorta monotonous. Then I get bored. When I get bored, I start thinking. When I start thinking, I realize I'm fucking lonely as shit. I made an OkCupid account the other night. I haven't uploaded a picture, yet. I will. Maybe things will happen from it. I went out drinking with some coworkers/friends tonight. One of them said he messaged a girl on OkCupid because she had a picture of herself with a professional League of Legends player, and she told him to play Dota 2 after a conversation, and he never followed up. I was kinda upset at this revelation. Mostly 'cause I wish he'd play Dota 2 with me. Is that weird? I feel like an asshole for feeling all this SAD/LONELY because I know people out there, like you, tegan, you awesome person, have it much, much worse than me. Ugh. You are the best! Believe that. fffffuck i'm drunk I tried to talk to a girl at a bar tonight. ...I forgot to tell her my name. She turned away to talk to another girl. I went to the bathroom and then left. My friends had abandoned me (to be fair - because they saw me talking to this girl). I paid $60 for a cab ride back to Burlingame. ahahah that's the funniest thing to me right now goddamnit i am the worst

Wario, Luigi, and Waluigi are the only good characters that exist in that universe. Actually, I love Donkey Kong. Fuck all y'all. ;_; Can't abide his inbred family, though.
  6. Space

    This all reminds me. http://ludonaut.de/the-message/
  7. Banished - The Indie City Simulator

This game has a very nice art style. It's not as high-fidelity as, say, Anno games, but there's something about it that really appeals to me. NEEDS MORE DEPTH OF FIELD THOUGH. U:
  8. Plug your shit

Haha. I love that you took me seriously. Seriously! To be honest, I think the Sugar Cube one is horrific, and I'm glad you agree. I really hate it. I have no idea why I even posted it. I wrote it in an attempt to get me to write things more, and, well, bleh. That said, there are a few things I'd like to at least partially respond to or justify! Linking to game: good idea. Dunno why I didn't think of it. Explaining the flip mechanics: yeah, definitely. That was a horrible decision to leave it so vague. Personal reaction: I dunno, I kind of prefer to focus on my personal reaction, rather than describe a thing objectively? Ambiguous wording: I don't think it's ambiguous, but I guess I wrote it so that makes sense. There are five worlds (as said), with seventeen levels and a single boss per world. Level length is something I should definitely have mentioned. Furry joke: Yeah that was dumb. I enjoy dumb jokes, but it shouldn't be in there. Cutscenes: Honestly didn't think it was important to explain! I just didn't care about the cutscenes, I guess. I think I watched one, and just gave up, without caring about why. Maybe it would've been better to not mention them. I definitely wasn't trying to follow some checklist, but that it comes off like I did is exactly why I hate it. Boss surprise: I don't believe the setting or characters in this game are worth worrying about spoiling. Grotesque: Look at it! That nose. Grotesque! It wasn't a knock or anything. It was kind of a loving acknowledgment of the art for the dude. Game not taxing brain: 'Cause it's not that hard. Didn't think it was necessary to explain. Again, I see your point. Assuming puzzle platformer fans like twitch: What. I didn't say that? "It won't tax your brain enough, but it may tax your reflexes enough to make up for it." I may have used "it" for two different things in that sentence, but there's only one thing that made sense in context. U: I actually really appreciate your feedback. It makes me want to get better, again. I hope you at least liked the Prison Architect one, more. I much prefer that style, where it's more of a playthrough-in-text-form than an arbitrary review.
  9. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

That's a shame. It was a neat game.
  10. Show me your desk/gaming space

    damn that's awful
  11. Plug your shit

I'm going to post some things I wrote. Please tell me they're awful and criticize as much as possible so I'm justified in never writing anything again. I hate everything I do. http://www.monopodcast.com/2013/02/25/sugar-cubes-are-generally-quite-sugary/ too bullet-pointy and explainy? http://www.monopodcast.com/2013/03/03/i-am-absolutely-not-an-architect/ not enough explainy and bullet-pointy? ugh i hate me I wrote these a while ago, as evidenced by the dates on the posts, but, well, whatever. I want to know what people hate about them, so my list can grow hopefully exponentially.
  12. Sonic Devouring Tails

    Good morning to you, too!
  13. Space

Imagine the things we can do with Jupiter's big red spot!
  14. Red Faction?! Damnit. I thought that went along with Volition. ): Nordic Games is a thing that always has a booth at GDC as long as I've been going (which is, granted, only three years). I remember from my time at a Nintendo FAN SITE that JoWood published a lot of more niche titles, as well as a bunch of Junk.
  15. Recently completed video games

Yyyyyep. Man, now I'm sad. The dialogue was nice, but I would've much preferred to have music. What a weird thing. Should've looked into it before playing. ):
  16. Recently completed video games

20 playthroughs. Hey, I just beat Loom for the first time. Played it ocne, long ago, but didn't make it far. It's kind of a neat game, has a neat idea, weavers using music to alter reality or whatever. Story is pretty mediocre, but fun enough. HOWEVER. What the hell, it's a game whose core theme is so closely linked to music, and yet you spend almost the entire game in silence? Ughhhhh. Also, I played the talkie version. I remember reading once that the talkie version had some removed content? But I don't know any details. Also also, the game is really short. Which I appreciate! Fuck long games.
  17. Oculus rift

I had the same response, weirdly stressed out and tense, but I suspect it was all in my head because I was wondering what-the-fuck the whole time.
  18. Link 2 The Past: 2 Past 2 Furious

Because he's an icon, not a character.
  19. anime

Yyyyyep. Welcome to Evangelion. It's a masterpiece.
  20. BioShock Infinite

What I don't get is "99% of the whole game was a red herring for one under-developed commentary on being sad?".
  21. Link 2 The Past: 2 Past 2 Furious

Well I don't really care about a sequel, per se, just saying that I prefer Link's Awakening in every aspect of the two games. I kind of assumed it was a given that nobody really cared about the story and that we were all talking pure gameplay/setting. U:
  22. BioShock Infinite

    So it achieved its goal.
  23. Books, books, books...

I'm okay with history, too, although I'd prefer an emphasis on mythology. I'll check it out. Thanks!
  24. Books, books, books...

Can anyone here recommend a good book to learn about Native American mythology? Preferably one that puts it into the context of the history of that particular tribe or subculture or whatever. I know there's a LOT OF IT and a LOT OF DIFFERENT TRIBES and A LOT and that's kind of why I'm asking for recommendations. I have no idea where to start. I don't really have any preferences, either. I could go with southwestern Native Americans or even Hawaiian natives. I've just become inexplicably interested in learning about this stuff within the past few weeks, but, like I said, have no idea where to start. Oh, also, I'd prefer one that I can read via my Nook, buuut at the same time I also want to see the art that goes along with the culture/mythology, so I'd probably be entirely willing to go with a real book. As long as it's not one of those weirdly tall books that are awkward to carry in any capacity.
  25. Link 2 The Past: 2 Past 2 Furious

I mean a sequel, and, yes, technically LA is in the LttP timeline? I think? Different world, though, technically. It's like a... dream world or something, in Link's Awakening. I dunno. Doesn't really matter. Games play pretty differently despite being essentially the same. Plus, LA had a better world/story. Sno: Crystal Chronicles with a full group is one of my favorite multiplayer experiences ever. The bucket is rad. IT'S MINE. I LEAD THE WAY DON'T YOU DARE PICK IT UP. Did you know there are people who hate the bucket? Fools.
