Hah. One of the artists on my team recently quit, and rumor had it that the call for "more sexy ladies" was the reason. She fought it tooth and nail but was eventually forced to just give up. A couple months later: gone. She was an awesome artist, too. ): Our artists are pretty much always asking to be able to make more gruesome monsters (it's a card battling game), and, in fact, lately a lot of the most vocal users in our community are asking for more gruesome monsters... Hopefully we'll see some change there.
  2. Life

I empathize, gerbs. Having a job you're not all that passionate about can be really awful. I'm currently working at a mobile games company, which on its surface doesn't seem like it would be that bad, except it's the games I'm making are the stereotypical Evil Money-Grabbing "games". I really love the people I'm working with, I think the company has a great culture, and I'm not forced to work long hours. (Sometimes I do by my own choice, because I just want to Get Something Done, but that's literally my choice.) I've been here almost a year, now. But it's really hard to keep giving a shit when I see my friends working on: Deadpool, Titanfall, Mad Max (actually he's in the New York Avalanche studio and I think I was told Mad Max is Sweden studio so who knows what he's working on), Sunset Overdrive, and a host of others. I've got friends everywhere making games I'd be much more interested in working on, let alone playing. I'm definitely proud of the work I do, but I'm not proud of the end product. There is a significant group of people that love the game I make, but it makes me feel kinda gross. It's a game built for product first, fun second. There's been lots of talk around the studio about changing that, and there's a bit of evidence of change, but it's not fast enough, and I don't know how much longer I can take it. But at the same time, even though I don't think I should, I feel bad. I've put a lot of hard work into this game with my team. We all get along great. BLEHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I also don't necessarily want to make AAA games. In fact, I'm one-hundred percent positive I don't, unless it's Valve. Even that, I'm not so sure. I love all their games, but they take so long to make them that I'm not sure I'd like it. Biggest I really want to go is Double Fine or Telltale. They both make games I love, and have been doing so for years. I've followed Telltale since Bone! Goddamnit. I just want to make games that I want to play. Games that I can show my friends, who are mostly also gamers, and they'll want to play. Which is why I need to stop being a lazy piece of shit and start making my own games in my spare time. But work exhausts me. Not to mention the massive pile of debt I have to work off. So I can't even afford to be picky in where I work. YUCK.
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

I never had a job that wasn't programming. X: I sorta regret being so lazy/afraid/whatever. I'm the worst.
  4. She looks a little different, but it's hilarious to me that anyone would be bothered by it. She looks fine. Yeesh.
  5. Yep, they're very similar types of games, as far as I know. Splash Damage. ):
  6. Plug your shit

Yeah I really really like what you're going for. And i'm jealous I can't do the same! It's really tough to find a lo-fi 3D style that actually manages to look good and I think you've mostly nailed it (bar my annoying nitpicking). Yay! EDIT: Sorta reminds me of this: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=138241781 Except for the different setting and being slightly more detailed. But well, you know. Details.
  7. Hey, I agree, but to be fair, they did acknowledge as much. I think it was just people asking them to do it, if I didn't misunderstand, that kinda forced their hand. The first two episodes were great, though, so no worries! I predicted this counterargument and preemptively prepared a countercounterargument! People like that - people colloquially known as "dickheads" - are going to be dickheads regardless. Having played both League and Dota for extended periods of time, I can safely say that having the surrender button very rarely led to someone acting like that, but when it did, it was someone who'd been acting like that the whole game, anyway. More often than not, they would say something to the effect of, "aw damn you guys" and then keep trying because they had a modicum of sportsmanship in their greasy little approximation of a heart. I'm not convinced by your defense!
  8. Just wait until Valve makes that MMO Gabe once mentioned offhandedly in an interview!
  9. Comebacks are a legitimate counterargument to a surrender button. Those are literally my favorite moments. The highest high I can get from the experience that is the Dota rollercoaster. But to be frank: I don't fucking care. I very rarely reach the point where I actually want to give up, but when I do, it's the most miserable experience. It's the lowest low of Dota, to counterpart the highest high that is the comeback. But, I'm sorry, I've reached a point where I can tell if I'm going to have a chance of a comeback. Sure, I'll bitch and moan about how far behind we are if I've lost too many games in a row, but I can still tell we have a chance, and will still keep trying. Then there comes a point where NOPE. Chance gone. We lost one team fight too many. Just make it unanimous. That solves 90% of the problems with a concede option. Eurgh. Please.
  10. Brink's single-player(/co-op) was the multiplayer maps in a specific order with cutscenes against bots. It was awful. The multiplayer was fun, but the maps weren't very well designed, and it had a really shitty launch, so it died. It makes me sad. Eurgh. ): Pikmin 3 will have no online, unless Nintendo changed their "it has too many units to do online properly" stance.
  11. Fez 2

Yeah I'm surprised because he seemed pretty down on Fez by the end. Well, not the game so much as the stress of development. You'd think he'd either take a longer break or pick an easier-to-work-with genre. I can't imagine a sequel to Fez being much easier to make than Fez. Or maybe he'll stop trying to be an insane perfectionist. Who knows!
  12. I ironically call everyone a nerd. It's my favorite thing to do. Get outta here, nerd!
  13. Fez 2

http://marctenbosch.com/miegakure/ Like that but the opposite!
  14. PL4YST4TION 4

Not entirely the fairest of comparisons, to be FAIR. PC runs a whole hell of a lot more than just a basic OS and a game. I think it would be pretty cheap but even if you got the exact same specs, games would run better on PS4. That sounds awful. D: While I'm perfectly fine with playing my handhelds at home (and do so semi-regularly), most of my handheld gaming is on the go. I wish they'd just release PS2 games like they did PS1. Well, I don't think they can, but I do wish. A Vita would be more attractive at that point. There are STILL a lot of PS2 games I never did get to play that I really wanted to.
  15. Feminism

It's big enough for two, but should I go in or wait? There's a long line of people waiting to REVOLVE. SOCIETY! Why do you make doors so stressful?!
  16. Nintendo 3DS

I get a couple unique StreePasses daily when I carry mine to work! And then there's like twenty people at work who have one. The difference I guess is I don't drive, I take the BART. U:
  17. Feminism

The impending disaster for all door-holders is when you hold the door for one person... and a stream of fifty people suddenly appear! Who do I stop for?! Will they hate me?!?! WHAT WILL I DO WITH MY LIFE!!!
  18. Yeah, I don't have any kind of shame about my Nintendo love, but it's really hard to defend it sometimes when I then turn around and complain about FPS all being the same manshootemups or JRPGs not having really evolved for many many years or whatever. Nintendo doesn't change, no matter how many wacky new inputs they develop. And I wish they would. It makes me a hypocrite! Blergh.
  19. Feminism

Heh, nah, it's cool, I figured that's not what you really meant. Mostly just wanted to share a fun/shitty story. Now back to your regularly scheduled Feminism thread!
  20. Feminism

DISAGREE. If I'm going to be nice to you, don't turn around and be a piece of shit to me. That happened to me once and it ruined my day. "I don't need you to hold the door open for me." I'm paraphrasing and text can't carry the "what the fuck are you doing" tone that she used. YOU WERE CARRYING A BUNCH OF TEXTBOOKS. JESUS. This goes for dudes, too. I hold doors for everyone. Fuck you if you don't like it! (I know that's not literally what you were trying to say but it triggered a memory that RILED ME RIGHT UP.) I'm also reminded of something that went to shitty TV court once: at a two-door layered entrance, a lady held a door open for a man, and then the man didn't hold the next door open for the lady. She kept walking thinking he would hold the next door open for her. He didn't. She broke her nose on the door. Or maybe the genders were reversed. Either way it was dumb, and not really relevant to this, it just, again, triggered a memory. This one makes me laugh because who WALKS INTO A DOOR.
  21. Plug your shit

I get it, 'cause there's a car in the picture! Hey I like it Lacabra, except that the car seems woefully under-detailed to everything else in the image! There's a couple other things that look over-or-under-detailed relative to most of the stuff. But besides that, I really do like it. EDIT: Actually I'm gonna take back the car complaint and just put in the house. The house seems way more detailed/textured (as in, grainy wood, etc.) than everything else. Like, compare the wood textures to the trees' pine needle textures. Sorry. I'll stop now. U: (The trees are my favorite, I love when people manage to make lo-fi trees that still look good.)
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

I love Stargate. Pretty much all of it. It's my first favorite! I was fucking mad when they took it off Netflix streaming when I was in the middle of rewatching it. Goddamnit Netflix.
  23. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I went... and bought a new 3DS XL for this game, basically, after getting my old 3DS stolen. I mean I was going to eventually, anyway, but this game pushed me over the edge. Ffffff. I love Animal Crossing. It's the most relaxing of video games. Hunting for fossils! Best.
  24. Dota Today 2: The Lord's Pitch

Yeah but no one believes that when I tell them. ): At any rate, an official built in vote mechanic that requires unanimous desire to surrender is better than "everyone leave at once".
  25. Nintendo 3DS

Neat! StreetPass is one of the neatest things.
