What about CS:GO is a failure? It's fun.

Power Grid! Weinhandler! Those are two good competitive games. Also, the Obvious recommendation is Settlers of Catan. I know a lot of people who dislike it because they've played it so much, but that's not really relevant to your situation. It's a very good game. For co-op games, I'd recommend Ghost Story. MAYBE Arkham Horror if you're okay with spending a lot of time looking up rules. By far my favorite, though: Cosmic Encounter. It's a race to conquer the galaxy in a very lighthearted fashion. Do that one! It's competitive, but since two players can win at the same time, you often get people teaming up with each other. Every game feels very different because there are so many races (that you randomly choose from!). Some of the races are broken, especially when teaming up with another specific race, but that's just part of the fun.

Speed Racer is fucking fantastic. Now I'm excited for Pacific Rim.

I agree that I'd rather have the cards than the badge, but on top of both of them being meaningless JPGs, every badge you craft gets you an emoticon and a profile background. I couldn't care less about the backgrounds, 'cause who the hell actually looks at my Steam profile except me, but the emoticons are (very) stupid fun. U:

I'm souring on Valve's lame attempt at a metagame compared to previous ones. The trading cards are still fine, although, as I've always said, they could be a lot more interesting. I do get a very specific kind of joy out of spamming my friends with a Rubick emoticon.

Yeah I'm of the opinion that, although the tutorial is probably the best built-in you can find for the genre, it's still not complete. For example, they don't even teach you that jungling is a thing. Or denying. Or what lanes should be like. Or what a carry even is. I dunno, there's a ton of things they can do to improve the tutorial. I'm sure they will, too. Or at least I hope.

What you get out of crafting badges is... well, the dumb badges. But then you also get dumb emoticons and steam profile backgrounds. Which is the kind of shit I ain't afraid to admit I love just because it's a dumb thing to collect. So I don't sell my cards. But I also won't buy them, because I don't love dumb shit that much!

Yeah the problem there is it's full of people who are trying to get the Sniper gun. I definitely played the tutorial despite having over a year of Dota 2 experience. But I was very forgiving of everyone and also didn't really care. X: Also then I got so mad at Dota like five nights in a row that I decided I needed to force myself take a break and uninstalled the game on the spot after a particularly nasty experience. I wish I could just not get mad at video games, but I'm so fucking competitive that I do it no matter how much I tell myself I won't. I'm so jealous of people who don't get mad. D: I've already had to talk myself down from reinstalling the game twice. It's good that I gave myself that extra barrier of installation or I'd just jump right in and start yelling at my friends again. I'm the worst human being.
