I was a lot more optimistic about that...

Re: all the Oscar talk: All right! I got most of what you guys said, but just didn't pick up on EXACTLY what went down between the two. Now I get it, I think. It wasn't that the actions bothered me; it's that she was so silent during all of it. Like she had nothing to say, except for maybe once out of every 20 items or so the text would say more than "a book" or whatever.

Maximum disappointment confirmed - Prey gets a sequel
Twig replied to Kolzig's topic in Video Gaming
Okay, good, as long as I've finally properly communicated my position! Seems like we understand each other now. -
I clicked on "View new content" and read "Sorry, no new food found." as I immediately closed the tab, recognizing a lack of... food. What the hell did my brain just do to me. The words "content" and "food" don't even look alike!

I... okay. Sorry, I'm not interested in continuing any discussion with you. --- Dr. Proton! No, I totally understand. I'm very upset about everything that's happened to Human Head as well. It's completely shitty. My point is more that I was... never talking about them. I could go on a million rants about a million different things that bother me all throughout the video game industry. in this specific instance, however, I chose only to discuss a specific developer that I know I like being stuck in a different shitty situation and express my opinion that boycotting the publisher also entails boycotting the developer. And that's something I can never get behind. Not for EA, not for Activision (though in this case, I was never really interested in their output, sooooo it kinda happened anyway), and not for Bethesda. The things that happened and/or are happening to Human Head are by far more atrocious, to me. I just, like I said, was never even talking about them. -
The ghosts were the best part. Couple complaints, mostly-gameplay-only, as the writing really got me (I'm spoilering anyway cause I reference some things that could be considered as such): I loved this game and I'm very happy it exists. I did play it in two sessions, and after finishing the first session I was worried I wasn't going to like it. But then I dug right back in and it paid off in spades. Yay! Also I kind of wish the controls weren't so... traditional, because I'd love to show this game to my mom and have her be able to play it. I don't think she could in its current state. I struggle to think of how else it could be done other than the somewhat typical seek 'n' find games where you're just clicking on a bunch of static scenes. Taking it anywhere in that direction would ruin much of what makes the game so good. One thing I didn't get/find, which I don't know if it even is gettable/findable: OH AND I FORGOT ALL ABOUT IT IMMEDIATELY AFTER FINISHING BUT REMEMBERED THE MORE I THOUGHT ABOUT IT:

Man I feel like you keep trying to start arguments with me about things I never said. I don't think it's intentional (or, at least, I hope it isn't), but you're just throwing me for a loop at this point. -
Oh my god. This made my whole day, and I just got back from watching the Starship Troopers Rifftrax.

Because, shitty business practices from Bethesda the publisher notwithstanding, I will not pirate a game. Like, what. Miffy is right. Don't play it if you feel that strongly. Your half-assed justifications are horrific. All that aside, I will gladly support a developer who makes good games. I don't believe for a second that anyone at Arkane wants all this shit that's happening around them. And another thing! I don't know why you suggested that in the first place. -

I feel like we're arguing past each other so I'll just finish by saying that I wholly support calling shitty business practices out for what they are. That doesn't mean I'm going to ignore a potentially quality game from a known quality developer, though. -

Define "from scratch". Do you have an inside track on exactly what they want the game to be? Whether or not Bethesda has lied about whatever this or that and whether or not they're starting the game over are both irrelevant to what the game will end up being, if it does in fact end up being. Arkane could still very easily take inspiration from what made the game so exciting to everyone who was excited. You're confusing shitty business tactics with shitty game development. Arkane is not Bethesda. -

Prey was a very good game and I know a number of people who loved it for various reasons. What makes you think it failed? Also, again, is it really that odd for a game to get a sequel, even if it was unsuccessful? If that was the case, a good deal of sequels wouldn't get made. Furthermore, Prey 2 looked fantastic. Too bad it's apparently being reworked. But if it's Arkane, then I'm optimistic they'll take what was good about the demos shown and expand upon that. -

Is it really so bizarre for a game to have a sequel that has a different structure, even if it wasn't the end-all-be-all of the genre? Happens quite frequently. I feel like the only reason people make those kinds of comments is just because of all this weird buffoonery surrounding it. -
Yeah it feels real good, goddamnit.
-
Yeah I read that and was confused. But hey whatever give your kids weird names.
-
Agreed. Made the cars actually feel like cars instead of, you know, Mario Kart.
-
That's dumb. But I think naming your kid "Messiah" is even dumber, so I'm not sure whose side I'm really on. EDIT: Actually I take it back, the more I say it, the more I think of it outside the context of Christianity, and it doesn't sound that bad, meaning aside. Still, probably not the best decision to bog your kid down with that kind of name.

As I was lying in bed last night, I laughed out loud at the fact that I frequently use "God" and "Jesus Christ" in vain, despite being an atheist. And I know I'm not the only one. I've also known both Muslims and Jews to similarly use "Jesus" like that.

There's a guy in an IRC chatroom I've been in for years, his name is madewokherd. For a good portion of those years, I read it as made wok herd and had no idea what it meant.

I believe you can change your nick at any time, but I'm not sure.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Twig replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
If they are actually doing this, it's dumb garbage and there's no defending it. BUT. If they are actually doing it, Nintendo already got their cut once Gamestop bought the games to resell. -
I hate that I read over this and didn't even question it until a few seconds later when I registered what I'd just read.

I love the gravedigger story. I want more stuff like that. Man that was rad. (And I think still not over?) It's probably long enough at this point to support a miniature graphic novel of some sort.
