  1. To the Moon

Also they added a cheesemint for so now everyone's obligated to play it.
  2. Dreams!

Let's see... I was back in Japan, for some reason. I decided I wanted to climb Mt. Fuji again. This time I was all alone, and I decided to take a different route to the top of Mt. Fuji. This one was along a highway that went all the way to the top (DOESN'T EXIST!). The highway also had a walkway above it, with lots of billboards and stuff, so I was walking along the backs of the billboards as I trudged toward the summit. Suddenly that walkway ended, and I almost fell off because I wasn't really paying attention to the ground! Holy shit! I stopped just in time, turned, stumbled back a little bit, grabbed the railing, and gravity switched off. I didn't let go of the railing, so I didn't float off, and eventually gravity returned to normal. I walked back to my hotel room, where I met a cute Japanese girl who helped me communicate with the hotel owner. We talked for a bit about nonsense; I don't even remember what. The conversation ended, and she headed toward her room. I said, "I'm in Room 101 if you want to hang out later!" She walked into a door without a room number - it led to another hallway of rooms, so that I don't know which room she was in. Oh well. I walked toward my room, which I knew the location of, and realized I was in room 105! I was a little sad because now she wouldn't know where I was. I opened the door and what the fuck there are three people in this room, two of whom I know. I went to school with one, and met the other last time I was in Japan. I have no idea who the third was. They were in my bed, at my desk, and behind the door, respectively. They saw me earlier and decided to surprise me like this. This room is a very small room. You know your average college dorm room? The kind with a microwave, mini-fridge, and two lofted beds with desks beneath them? Half that size. The end.
  3. New people: Read this, say hi.

Hahaha, yeah. YEAH. Dosed: It's .
  4. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Man I loved that song when I heard it from the same source, too. I was too lazy/distracted to follow up on hearing the song, so thanks for giving me the artist and title.
  5. You could just shorten "hologram program" to "holo-program" to "holo-gram" and pretend you have seen it because holograms exist (in limited fashion).
  6. Nintendo 3DS

Yeah I really hate the buffer.
  7. Other podcasts

Welcome to Nightvale is fuckin' rad. I mean, I knew I'd like it. Just kept putting off starting it. But man this is exactly my favorite kind of weird fiction, and I love the radio format for it.
  8. http://tap-repeatedly.com/2013/08/review-dragons-crown/ I will not comment on this for a million reasons but I thought maybe it could provoke some conversation that I could gaze upon without participating. Or not. Whatever floats your boat!
  9. Dreams!

Hah. I know you're joking, but I should also clarify that I knew the name of it before I read the sign. That was just how I found the building.
  10. Dreams!

I dunno. I know a lot of people have trouble reading words in their dreams. I can't remember ever having actually tried before. At the very least, this is the first time I ever remember trying, and it was definitely only those three words on the sign.
  11. Dreams!

Last night I dreamed I was traveling in France. I wanted to visit a place called The Milary Comodium. Which is not a thing. And not real words. But that's what the sign said in my dream! But it was closed. It was on a hilltop, a single building, and I feel like it involved mirrors somehow? Anyway, like I said, it was closed. So I wandered around, and found a cat in an alley. I was about to reach down and pet it when another cat caught my eye. Because it was missing an eye. But it was more like the eyelid was really swolen and shut, so maybe more of a black eye, but I was certain it was missing an eye. Suddenly, I was surrounded by cats. And kittens. And then I decided to try The Milary Comodium again. At which point I realized I had lost my camera, and started screaming, "No! No no no no nonononono NO!" The end.
  12. That kind of thing doesn't phase me in the slightest and it's always baffling to me that something so cartoonish can make people so squeamish. But I guess that's peoples for you! Everyone's got their own thing.
  13. Hah, I hadn't even considered that some people torture because they want to. Consciously or not. Gross. Gross because it's probably true, at least some of the time, maybe more than some.
  14. I wasn't claiming anything. I was asking for more information. "Oh well." Also, something like torture, which has very direct consequences in very important ways, is a far cry from praying or faith healing or horoscopes or, well, anything faith-related. With torture, there is a specific goal: get information. If it continuously does not work and the people in charge know about it, it's very strange that the trend would continue. With those other things, there is a vague wishy-washy hope that some magical force of nature or supernature will intervene or guide you down the right path. When that path then conveniently works out, it's very easy to give credit to that faith-related magic. Yes, you could argue there is an element of "faith" to hoping something like torture will work... but when it doesn't work time and time again, and people continue to use it... I blame it more on desperation and lack of other options/willingness to explore those options than I do on blind faith. People pray because they believe it works. People torture because they hope it works. The two aren't really comparable. In my opinion! And, yeah, it's not as clear-cut as that. Obviously there's some overlap. Some people pray when they're desperate. Some people might torture because they believe it works. But I'm just talkin' 'bout the big picture.
  15. I believe I very specifically stated multiple times throughout that post my ignorance, so I appreciate your snarky response. Tycho: thanks. Even though you're slightly snarky, too. But less so.
  16. So, to preface, I'm rather ignorant on this topic, feel free to educate me. (And this has nothing to do with media's portrayal, so feel free to tell me to shut up if it's unwanted discussion.) But, if torture is in continued use to this day, in real life!! (I mean, it is, right?), surely it must work. Whether or not it's humane is a separate thing, and whether or not it works 100% of the time is also a separate thing. I'm curious. Is there some sort of study or historical evidence to show that torture is mostly ineffective? Again, NOT talking about whether it's humane or justified, just the effectiveness. Because I don't know shit about shit here. It just feels like if it's an active topic of discussion even today in 2013, there must be a reason for it even beyond media's constant portrayal of it.
  17. Not really. It's nice to believe, but the game was fine and well received and none of that mattered.
  18. I also really liked it! Combat was super fun. Did get easy because I did all the sidequests (why? because I'm an idiot) and got overleveled, but man. It's one of those games that I was super super excited about the sequel, because I'm always optimistic developers will fix the flaws in the first game. Kinda like Assassin's Creed -> Assassin's Creed II. Man. Now I'm all sad again. Also, Atlantic, they went bankrupt for reasons entirely outside of the success (critical or otherwise) of Kingdoms of Amalur. ):
  19. Well, whatever the case, awesome. Meteos consumed me for a while, too. Annoyingly/fantastically, it's one of those games that makes you see the game elements everywhere. Traffic lights, car tail/headlights, especially, as I drove around. Man.
  20. METEOS?! Shit that game is rad. I played it so much. I don't remember it ever being mentioned on the 'cast. Then again, my memory is awful! Especially for things that probably happened years ago. (Super Hexagon is also rad, but METEOS, MAN, MAN.)
  21. I always wanted one, but never got around to getting one. Now I'm feeling that urge again. Grrr.
  22. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I had no idea where the bedrooms were, but in retrospect, I guess most multistory houses have the bedrooms on the upper floors. I grew up in a one-story house, so I suppose that's why I thought it might be possible they were on the ground floor. All that said, I definitely went into this game with the mindset that I should just explore everything thoroughly, and so I did. Definitely very video gamey, but I don't think in a bad way. (edit: spoilering, better safe than sorry)
  23. I don't get you. You confuse me on a daily basis. I was just being silly. Get over it. (Though I do hate fighting games.)
  24. Thanks for taking everything too seriously I guess? Geez.
  25. I absolutely detest fighting games and none of what you people are saying is in any way changing my mind. The over-complicated quarter-circle magic bullshit is so incredibly off-putting and not at all interesting that it makes me mad when people try to defend it as if it's a good thing. MAD.
