I don't have any of those gross things you gross dudes. But I do have a mole on my chin that grows gross hair like a gross dude. When I was a teenager I was like "maybe some day the rest of my face will grow hair like that". It never happened.

(I think you have the wrong definition of vaporware. Vaporware is announced and then never sees the light of day. This was literally just announced on Monday.)

I have to say I'm kind of excited about the prospect of a gamepad that has a decent d-pad so I hope this one has a decent d-pad. Both 360 and PS3 controllers have shit d-pads. 360's is, of course, a million times shittier, but that just means PS3's is a million times less shitty. Also I'm a little sad that it's obviously not going to be a software announcement on Friday. Valve please make more games.

Yeah I figured that out. Fan's been working fine since yesterday's post. I even left it on overnight because I was feeling adventurous, and we're still golden! Computers are weird.

Speaking of games made in Game Maker, I just finished Stealth Bastard Deluxe. That game is a bastard! I really liked it though. Complaints: 1) The controls are kind of annoying, at least once I downloaded the DLC and started using the teleporters (which are mandatory in the DLC). Too many buttons at once, and the default layout (on the gamepad) can make it difficult to use certain combinations. I tried changing the buttons, but by that point I was so used to the original controls that I couldn't handled that either. I switched back! 2) The powers you unlock are essentially meaningless. You can't use them when attempting an S-Rank, because the game won't accpet it. S-Rank attempts will only be stored with the default power (which is - no power at all). It's a real shame, because some of the powers are pretty neat. (Most notably the teleporters, for speed runs.) Then again, some of the powers are just straight up overpowered, like the timed cloaking that recharges super fast. 3) Lack of in-game volume controls! Game was loud, and I had to adjust the volume EVERY TIME using the Windows individual volume sliders. Oh well. But those specific complaints probably wouldn't exist if I didn't like the game so much. It's very much a game about precision and timing and that's the kind of 2D platformer I like. Hurray! Now onto the Mark of the Ninja DLC that just came out recently.

Viper was the first carry I was able to do well with. Weaver is the first carry I learned, and I did pretty good with him until we started playing against better players. Now I do pretty good with him again, and pretty poorly with Viper. VIDEO GAMES.

Yeah doing this has made me want to open up my laptop now and clean it out. I'm sure agood deal of its slowness is just a result of accumulated dust. The screen half is also only very loosely attached to the base of the laptop at this point (another "common issue", this one more than common enough to have multiple video walkthroughs dedicated to fixing it!). COMPUTERS. WHO NEEDS 'EM.

Hah. I sold my old card when I got this new one. (It's two years old at this point.) I wish I had a backup!
-
You probably also have money to spare. U: The fan has since gotten quiet, but it is still actually spinning. I'm baffled by this, but I accept it without complaint, because I have a working desktop now. My laptop is such an utter pile of poop.

So I eventually just went for it and pulled the fan off. I guess it was built into the casing. Not a big deal, as any new fan I order would be screwed directly onto the heatsink, apparently. I think I'd need some thermal paste for that, though? I'll figure it out. At any rate, I pulled the FAN off, but the motor was still on the case. I... put it back on and tried starting up my computer again (mostly to ensure that in my experimentation, I hadn't fried the GPU or something, since I'm always afraid of that). Everything works! Including the fan? It's actually louder than it ever was, BUT it's actually noticably spinning now. I'm still ordering a new fan, but I think I've got this under control for the time being!
-
Okay, I've removed the outer-casing, to which the fan is attached, and unplugged the fan from the GPU. Now I've got the fan model number and know exactly which one to order. HURRAY! But I don't know how to remove the fan. It feels like it might just pop right off. But it also feels like it might break the plastic. It's pretty flimsy. DO I PULL IT OFF AND HOPE FOR THE BEST? There's no immediately obvious solution here. I'm scared.

Yeah. i jsut went and bought a tiny precision screwdriver so that I can actually unscrew the ONE SINGLE SCREW THAT IS SMALLER THAN THE REST OF THE SCREWS and take the fan out and measure it, so we'll see what happens from there. U:

Like I get what you're saying but I don't think you understood the context of what I was saying. ):

Basically! Also I feel like a royal asshole every time I get angry at people for essentially not speaking English. Heh.

Abrash started out working on augmented reality (like Google Glasses type stuff), I think, before making the move to VR with the Rift. Did he actually build a prototype? They've been using the Rift for all their VR stuff, as far as I know. Or was the prototype for his AR work? It has been a while since I read his blog, but it looks like it's all about the challenges of VR. Nothing new since July. Jeri Ellsworth, who was one of those fired/let-go/whatever during the big hoo-ha... She was working on augmented reality before being fired. She's the one, I think, that Frenetic Pony is referring to, complaining about how hard it was to make hardware. She's since taken what she was working on at Valve (with Valve's permission) and started her own company. (Found the article I remember reading that from: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/07/wireduk-valve-jeri-ellsworth/)

I've gained lactose intolerance since becoming an adult, and I know a surprisingly large number of people who share my newfound symptoms. Why did no one ever tell me this as I was growing up? I drink it anyway because it's delicious, and although I've tried almond milk I hate it. It doesn't taste right. I make poor life decisions. If I ever have kids, they won't drink milk, so they can avoid my suffering.

I finally managed to find a thread on a forum about my specific card and replacing the fan in that specific card... I think I need one of these. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=FirstD+fd8015&_sacat=0&_from=R40 I then started looking up "how to replace fan in gpu" and man now I'm wondering if maybe I could just afford a new video card (I can't).
-
Don't worry, it'll be announced on Friday!
-
I've never replaced a CPU fan, either! But that's a bit easier. The fan sits right on top of the heatsink sits right on top of the chip itself. I pulled out my video card and started unscrewing screws to try to get to the fan inside the casing, but then there were like a dozen screws and screws on every side and I don't know which ones I should remove and oh man.
-
Mmmh. You're a clever one. I regret responding. The thread has progressed like twenty pages since he made that asshole post. Plus it's nonconstructive to reply to a post like that, anyway! Wokka wokka.
-
Yeah but I don't know what that even means, really. What kind of fan. How do I replace the current fan. I've tried googling "how to replace fan" on my graphics card and get nothing useful. Maybe my search terms are failing me. U:

My fan has decided to completely stop working in my video card. I own a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150530'>XFX Radeon HD 6950. A few months ago, the fan was making some grinding noises. Did some cursory research, and it seems that was a common issue with the 6900 series? Just a loose bearing or something. Then it stopped, and I thought nothing of it. A week ago the grinding started again. My computer hard crashed once. It didn't happen again until two days ago, at which point all hell broke loose, and I can't even keep the computer on for more than a few minutes, no matter what I'm doing. The fan tries to spin, gives up. Tries to spin, gives up. I can hear it working and failing over and over. So, yeah, I need a replacement. I have no idea how to do that. I don't want to buy a new video card, as I'm jobless. ANY IDEAS?

If I were to rate my experiences, my worst have always been with people who couldn't or refused to speak English.

I'm not really sure what thestalkinghead is talking about, either, but I will say that most of my frustration with the topic of feminism* or any other touchy subject is that (and this has happened on these forums more than once) if I don't agree 100%, I get enough backlash that it's like people think I'm Less Than Human. Like my opinion is now worthless, because I don't completely agree with the people trying to change the world for the better. Like, because I don't agree on one specific thing under the umbrella of said topic, I'm part of the problem, and I need to be shut down. Maybe that's what he's talking about. Because it's a real thing, and it's annoying as shit. *EDIT: I should specifically say that I mean my frustration with discussing the topic. Because I very much agree with the goal. There's no issues there.
