Awesome TED Talks (and similar enlightening lectures)

...This is amazing. -
Finished my Dallas interview a couple hours ago. OH MAN I WANT THIS JOB. Some of the nda'd stuff they told me about sounds so fucking cool. I feel like it went really well. Kept talking like I was already there. Hope my optimism isn't too high. Felt really good. U: Hnnnngh. Lacabra: Dang, what. D:

Hahaha I love the image I have in my head of that dream. Glorious!

I think I also solved that puzzle by trying every item... Ah! Forgot to spoil. Sorry.
-
Hmm! I will definitely do that. It'll be interesting to read his take on a culture I'm intimately familiar with. Currently flying through By Blood, though. Geez, already a fifth of the way through... Huh. I started like right after my last post. Neat. That's fast for me!

I definitely think that's true, and I appreciate it. That's undoubtedly also at least a little part of why it became easier to read as I went along. Also, just because the actual Story Telling started moving faster and faster. But dang was it hard when I started. Especially coming off of The Great Gatsby (which I was happy to hear echoed in the podcast which I am just now listening to)! Oh god I also loved the scene with Dr. Hilarius.

I've been catching up on the Idle Book Club of late (FINALLY finished Telegraph Avenue, ordered Evidence of Things Unseen (still waiting on it), and finished The Great Gatsby and The Crying of Lot 49). Dang I loved this book. It was super hard for me to read, especially in the beginning (if this is "easy", I fear the other Pynchon books you people talked about). But by the end, I loved it, and appreciated the meandering in the beginning all the more once I'd finished. DANG. I'll just, uh, quote the "review" I wrote on my Goodreads account: I'm gonna go start By Blood, now. Although, I'm a little sad we're back to super long books. Part of the reason Telegraph Avenue took me so long is because it was so long. I did like the book when I was finished, but geez. ANYWAY.

Haha that does seem kinda petty, but he at least said he did enjoy it in one tweet, so that's good! Also, a lot of that seems like pretty basic space physics - stuff of which I've been consciously aware for a long portion of my life - being broken, so I'm a little wary of my own suspension of disbelief. In what is supposed to be a hard science fiction movie, if I see stuff like that, I'm likely to roll my eyes AT LEAST a little. But, well, it's not like that would destroy the plot. Just some of the circumstances. I need to see Gravity. Gonna try to talk my friends into doing so this weekend. U:

I appreciate it, but I'd've preferred a different dream. ):

Is this an effort to make my dream come true, tegan?

So, for some reason, Steam is currently adding 62 hours of playtime to all games I've played. So, if I've played Toki Tori 2+ for 3 hours - and I have! - it displays as 65 hours. I know it's 62 exactly, because if I start up a game that has been affected by this bug, Steam fixes the number it's displaying. I started up three different games, and all three subtracted 62 hours. What a weird bug, right? So I was thinking about how it could happen, because 62 is a rather specific number, and one my first thoughts was "Valve ARG". Followed up by "62? 6/2=3! THREE!" Then I self-murdered. Good night.

Yep it's the one with the uniforms.

I just watched the first episode of Kill la Kill with a friend. It was suitably insane and wacky cool and then all of a sudden the main character is half naked and that's her fighting uniform and my eyes rolled right out of their sockets.

I actually just made an account a couple weeks ago. Here it is: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/24314106-jonathan-rust I mostly made it to keep track of my own thoughts on books, since that's something I've never really done. But yeah. (I suppose I could've posted this in the old dead thread, but whatever.) God I really suck at rating things, though. I wish rating systems were just a thumbs up and thumbs down. Did I like it? Yes or no. I'm also very often forgiving of a piece of entertainment's flaws if I come away satisfying, so I have a hard time rating something three or two stars.

oops i meant to post this in the old thread i had both open and MESSED EVERYTHING UP

I have issues with using that. I don't blame anyone for doing so, but it feels nonconstructive and cowardly. (EDIT: Cowardly is not the right word. I meant more... like it's just Giving Up. But maybe that's for the best in some cases.) It's probably unreasonable, but it is how I feel. Not that this whole shitstorm has been any better, I guess.

I really don't think that's true. DIY was never a really common thing, but I think it's more common now, thanks to the internet.

Idle Thumbs 126: Old Growth Artisinal Dot
Twig replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
This is my favorite spiral into insanity out of all the spirals into insanity to which I've been witness. -
Today it's a big ask, yeah. Tomorrow, maybe not! (ps gaming is dead o no) (Oh boy I can't wait for PS4/Xbone to finally come out so we can have a whole new onslaught of THE DEATH OF PC GAMING articles.)
-
And on top of that, the SteamOS is one built specifically with gaming in mind, unlike Windows or OSX or Linux, so we should theoretically be avoiding a lot of the downsides of current PC gaming (OS taking up too many resources, etc.). Fuck, this is exciting, guys. I'm excited!
