  1. Yeah lack of respeccing is kind of a big turn off. The only way to "plan ahead" when you haven't played a game like this before is to go read a bunch of people analyzing different builds. The last thing I want to do when I make a mistake in building my character just because it once seemed like a good idea is have to restart.

I know! I was also expecting to hate it. I'm really enjoying it though. Spice and Wolf also was the exact same thing. Wolf girl? Who likes that... Oh, wait, this is super great, what's happening. That they evoke similar feelings from me is just icing on the cake of cool coolville. Whatever.
  4. That is a weird choice, but it doesn't really bother me. I have definitely seen a lot of people asking for that feature in D3 and TL2. Kinda defeats the purpose for me, but whatever. I'll just make another HC character. (Assuming I ever play this.)

My input is objectivity has nothing to do with it. Which game affected you the most? Which game left you with the biggest lasting impression? Objectivity in deciding which game is the best is an impossible and also stupid thing to strive for. If he really didn't think Gone Home deserved to be game of the year, why did he choose it as his own number one? Alternatively, if he really didn't think Last of Us deserved game of the year, why did he choose it as IGN'S number one? There's such a huge contradiction here. As a critic, he shouldn't be choosing what he thinks people want to see. He should be choosing what he believes is the best. No matter if it's for his personal list or if it's for the outlet he writes for. To me it just comes off like he's trying to please both "sides" of the argument. He wants to make sure people know he thinks Last of Us is SO COOL GUYS YOU CAN SHOOT ZOMBIES while also making sure people know he thinks Gone Home is such amazing and beautiful story it affected me so much I'm a human, right guys?! I don't REALLY believe that's his goal. I do understand what he's trying to say with critical vs personal opinion. I think it's bullshit, but I do understand it. It just... feels wrong. It's offputting.
  6. They are if you play on hardcore! Which is the only way I'll play these games anymore, as they're boring and mindless otherwise.
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

Speaking of tamen, I want some ramen.
  8. anime

hey speaking of cartoons for children http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sr2PyNriPWI I laughed.
  9. anime

It amazes me that an adult (or someone who claims to be an adult) who plays video games would have that kind of opinion. Basically what BenLuke said.
  10. Feminism

    That is fantastic.
  11. Sean, I don't know what you were on this episode, but your wacky Christmas shenanigans absolutely sleighed me.
  12. New people: Read this, say hi.

oh okay cool no yeah that totally jives i see nothing weird with these two statements right next to each other (hello)
  13. Games giveaway

...Probably a good idea. What the hell is causing this sudden shitstorm, anyway? I mean there's another one RIGHT THERE. It's so offensively blatant, too. Yeesh.

MORE ON X-FILES: This episode ("E.B.E.") followed our friends Mulder and Scully visiting a bunch of paranoid motherfuckers worried the government is listening in on their every conversation. Totally implausible, of course! Hello NSA! I'm friendly! In other words, a modern X-Files, I think, would be impossible. Because a lot of it is about government conspiracy (as established) which includes paranoia that we're all being watched. Which is... so much more true, now. Or at least known to be true. Where's the conspiracy when we've got it all written out for us by the government itself! Stay tuned for tomorrow when I have a completely different opinion again. I don't get the joke. U:

Makes sense. I understand now. ):
  16. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I've listened to this song like twenty times in the past two days. That's a lot for me. EDIT: Twenty-one!!!

Those are the best ones to record!
  18. Life

I avoided this kind of problem by letting my a driver's license expire a couple years ago. I should really get that back at some point...
  19. anime

I've changed my mind and Kyousougiga might be my favorite anime this season. I finished it earlier today. I'm not sure if I like it or The Eccentric Family more. Also I might change my mind again if Kill la Kill finishes with a bang. I mean, a bang for Kill la Kill has gotta be like the BIG bang, right? WHO KNOWS?! I started watching Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World). It's slow and deliberate and meandering and enigmatic and threatingly grim. These are qualities I like sometimes. I'm two episodes in. Do I like i here? I'm not sure. It's a full 25 episodes long. That's sorta offputting. WHO KNOWS?! Also there's going to be a 60 minute Mushishi OVA airing January 4th!!! That's like my favorite anime of all time or something like that. I hope it's good! Should I read the manga? WHO KNOWS?!

I almost posted this in the Gone Home thread because I didn't know where else to post it, but it's really only tangentially related and also I remembered this thread exists! http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/greg-miller-s-top-10-games-of-2013/1100-4836/ Now I don't really care about what anyone's personal top ten are, but... take a look at his number one, and then take a look at the first two sentences. I've handily quoted the text in question below. ign dot com

I just collect the cards and craft badges. Very rarely craft, but craft nonetheless.

Another thing I like about The X-Files is that not everything is some wacky shit. Some of it actually DOES have a reasonable* explanation, even if it at first appears to be some wacky shit. *For varying levels of reasonable. EDIT: I say that and then I finish up the last three minutes of this episode - "Fire" - and whoops it's now implied he actually is pyrokinetic. WELP.

I'm not re-watching. I'm just watching. I could totally buy into a conspiracy thing in a contemporary setting. It wouldn't have to be "the government" as we know it. It could be some arbitrary "secret organization" that most of the government doesn't know about. I mean, that's how it's always done these days. No different from the original, really, except maybe taken to the next level. Suspension of disbelief is an easy thing when it comes to dumb stuff like that. What I wouldn't be able to buy into is the Scully as a skeptic thing. I'm already having a hard enough time here... With cameras in our shoes these days there's no way Mulder wouldn't have a vast database of visual proof, instead of the stereotypical blurry photos he's got in the existing X-Files. Can't just rip out the film and expose it to light to ruin it, these days. No one uses film! Today's conspiracy nut would have auto backups from his phone's camera to some secure location etc whatever.
  24. Unepic

They also added voice acting. ha ha ha ha
  25. Mass Effect 3

Hmm, well, you say you had fun, so that's a thing, but I dunno, I have my doubts that I personally would enjoy any combat-focused thing in Mass Effect. I guess I'll see whenever I eventually get around to playing it!
