It's a pretty common tone for conversations about AAA games these days. And it's a fair skepticism to have, but I agree with you. It can be extremely tiresome. ):

That game. Is fucking amazing. It's seriously one of my favorite DS games. I spent so much time competing with some friends on another forum, trying to get a higher and higher score. DAMN. I did similar things with the minigames in Super Mario 64 DS, but YT&G was the real winner, there. That said, they're talking about Yoshi's Island DS, which is a traditional platformer, not a high-score kinda game.

I'm just being silly. I'd never give up with a 10-kill deficit. Hell I think I've even won a game with a 30-kill deficit. (I feel like I'm using "deficit" incorrectly here. Tell me if I'm using it incorrectly!)

In one of those cases, the game is probably lost. In the other of those cases, the game is DEFINITELY lost! BOOM SKIDOO

I pretty explicitly said I'm not. I don't even know what marketing you're talking about. This is the first media I've seen of the game that lasted more than thirty seconds. What marketers? Point to the marketers that have infested my brain! As for why there's no positive press: could just as easily be because everyone wants Thief and isn't getting it as it could be the game actually being bad. This playthrough looked decent enough for what it was trying to do, even if it's not something I want. Sorry I'm not about to get all up in arms because a game does something I don't like. I don't have the energy for that shit anymore. Haha, is that so. I almost said that exact same thing in my post but opted not to for various reasons. You're getting super goddamn angry before any reviews come out, so you're being a bit hypocritical!

I think it looks fine. Linear doesn't have to mean bad. Lots of linear games are fucking fantastic. And as for "easy", well, it's a preview? I get the anger over it not being a true Thief game, but it is by no means bad-looking. Bad Thief game doesn't have to mean bad game. (Though I still have no personal interest in it.)

A common good-guy pompadour trope is that the dude puts on this huge act of badassery but then has a super soft side to him, like having a weakness for cute animals or something.

Robot Entertainment of Orcs Must Die? Can't say I'd be against making games with those guys! But unless something terrible happens like everyone hates me (totally possible!), I don't think I'll leave my new job. Some of the stuff they're doing right now sounds super interesting. Anyway, the only piece of furniture I'd really miss is my bed. I dished out for a GOOD MATTRESS for once in my life and I don't want to lose it. The rest of my furniture is definitely disposable. I have a lot of boxes I'll need to pack up of course for the stuff that isn't furniture. But yeah I guess I'll just sell/toss the furniture and buy new stuff when I get there.

I don't think there's a common ancestor here. Space Dandy is Cowboy Bebop taken in an over-the-top direction. Redline is future space racing taken in an over-the-top direction. The pompadour thing is just... that's how a lot of over-the-top characters in anime look. The ones full of attitude and bravado often enough have pompadours. I dunno. As a non-fan of LOTR I have no real opinions regarding this game. The following is a fake opinion. Extending the fiction of an established thing doesn't bother me. In fact, I wholly support that in all cases, provided it actually fits. But it does seem they're taking it in some weird fuckin' directions here. This might as well be a completely new setting, so why not just do that? Weird.

Yeah I don't really understand where everyone thinks these kinds of people have been hiding. They don't exist. There's no one who would screw around for 20 minutes if a surrender option existed that wouldn't screw around for twenty minutes if it didn't exist. We don't need to dream up fake reasons to justify not including a surrender option. There are real, legitimate concerns that I think everyone here would acknowledge, even if they don't necessarily agree with the importance or relevance of those concerns. This ethereal group of players whose only purpose is to exploit a surrender option don't exist to any degree worth worrying about.
